Nautilus

Can anyone tell me where (if anywhere) the rules regarding this new land are posted? The city in particular. Has there been any announcement about the houses on the parcels? I love the look of them. Will the owners be required to keep them? I guess that assumes they will transfer with the sale.

Oh, and since this land will sell at auction, can you buy it for a group? Will land transfers work like normal so that you can switch it into a group if you have to buy it as an individual?

(Not that I am tempted to tier up and bid. Just curious.)

I can only answer the group question. No, unless they change things, you will not be able to buy for a group through the auction.

Thanks Lexxi. I didn't think so, but I've never bought land through the auction site before, so I wasn't sure.

So the auction process is different from regular "land sales". The prims on the land stay there when you win an auction, but we can't run it through the "Include Content With Sale" effect. The house will stay on the parcel you buy, but the house will still be owned by Governor Linden. The moment you set autoreturn, poof goes the house.

However, we're gonna have copies of all the versions of the Nautiloid houses, plus various trees, textures, objects, etc. available for free on Friday. We'll probably put the "vendors" for this stuff in the Market area (near the Harbor) in Nautilus - Shalim.

You won't be required to keep the houses; but we'd be very glad to see everyone building to suit the theme!

Sweet! I particularly like the Philip Linden Amphorae, m'self. I hope the one other resident who accidently bought a non-copy part last night got ahold of ya.

If they release them in blocks as was done in Bay City, thyen try to get in on the second or third round. It's how I got my Bay City for a high but not insane price. It'll also give you a chance to see jes how crazy it will get.

Thanks for the advice, Mari. I remember that prices got a little better in the later blocks out there, so I would be pretty willing to wait this time around before really getting serious about bidding.

BTW, I had a look around Bay City about a week ago, and I was really impressed with how it is settling in. Your toy store is cute as a button!

An ya, there's a lot of places that are really shaping up. Moloch an Argos in particular are nice.

It would be hard, considering that it's backward. I mean the king and queen are reversed. Not to nit pick. Maybe the ancient civilization played chess that way. Maybe it's a through-the-looking-glass thing.

I agree..IMHO LL should not be competing with residents but making it easier for them to create the cool areas themselves.

Oddly, I find myself resenting that staff have fun being creative on our dime after all the pull-the-rug-out-from-under-the-residents stuff LL has pulled.

Quite far from the original concept...made by residents for residents.

Michael is it true that once bought from auction the land cannot be resold or joined with another parcel to make a bigger parcel?
The blog said that terraforming was off but another poster seemed to think that resell and land join were out also, could you clarify for us please?

A note on geography. I labeled the continent north of the new land as “Nautilus” on my maps because when LL was creating the new land, yet-to-be named sims were rolled out as “Nautilus_XXX” (where “X” stands for numbers). Though LL never formally named the “old” Nautilus, they labeled the new sims for Corsica and Gaeta in the same manner.

LL not naming a continent is nothing new. The continent south of “old” Nautilus was never given a proper name by LL, and I currently show three alternates fairly commonly used alternates on my maps. The original three continents also have less commonly used names, that I reference in my map.

I’m going to try to get hold of someone at LL with a definite answer as to what LL thinks the name of “Old” Nautilus properly is. Wish me luck…

You can think the happy thoughts and hope to be glad all you like, but if you don't make and enforce a covenant, some of the people will really screw it up for the people that want to maintain the theme. Bay City had a lot of really great possibilities, but you only have to go to Mari's shop and look at the giant monstrosity behind it, or go to my place in the Argos sim at night and see the fullbright slave trading building to see examples of what WILL happen on Nautilus without an enforced covenant.

In general, I really like the new Nautilus island with all it's wondrous builds, backstory, and possibilities.

Unfortunately, I thought about the math for a couple minutes. Double prims along with Linden owned objects means that less than half of the land in the sims will be paid for by tier. This brings the normal $195/sim tier for mainland down to less than $100. If LL is ok with running full prim sims under $100/month, isn't it about time for the private sim owners to catch a bit of a break? The more LL continues to create and sell themed builds, the more people will complain about the unfair competitive advantage. And those people are more correct with every $100/month full sim that LL sells off.

Sorry about that full bright slave place, Argos. It's quite... um... visible. An ya, not a lot I c'n do about my own neighbors, either. :-/

I went there last night. I see why it's called Nautilus - because it's just off the coast of the old mainland Nautilus.

Quite a beautiful place, and the central circular citadel with its high walls is awesome. Nautilus looks remarkably well preserved for a rediscovered ancient city, though.

Same here. the overall design and theme is impressive but some of the build quality in Nautilus is terrible. I would be ashamed to put my name to it if I had created that.

Can anyone place an a LM in the forums to the temple? I'm explorin around looking for the freebies! LOL The Bay City Freebies rocked! I don't want to miss these.

Ooohhh I found a strange thing poking up along the shore of the canal in Nautilus - Mysehi (105,41,33)

IF you go in it and look up theres all kinds of control panels and buttons that are scripted and a map an stuff. No idea what its all for. LOL But its way cool.

It is possible of course that estate owners will still have the edge in customer service - especially if LL continue to turn a blind eye to the actual daily ins and outs of estate management. (I.e. if they don't maintain a covenant and enforce the theme, etc.)

Nonetheless it is always a very bad move when a company undercuts and competes with their 'resellers' -- I've seen it happen a number of times and almost always it ends badly for the company. They might see short-term gains, but long-term, they lose their most faithful supporters, nobody respects or trusts them, and eventually they fizzle out and disappear.
