I've disagreed with Mulch and been fine. *Yeah, this is an alt too. :p I don't use an alt at SC and usually not here, but don't post with my main here anymore.* Don't use that as an excuse not to go to SC. Yeah, it can get rough there at times, but for the most part, it's not too bad. I don't see why every third person and their brother has to bash SC just cause they don't like it. If you don't like it, don't go. Nobody forces you to go to SC forums!

Am I alone in finding it odd that people who frequent a place that touts itself as only for the thick-skinned has such a thin skin when it comes to so-called "bashing"?

Well now, can we all put our disagreements to rest? After Macphisto's post, I don't see why not. :)

Who put such a goddamn premium on having a thick skin anyway? As if it were wrong to actually feel something for a change.

It's also totally disorganised. They have about five different forums that all amount to "off-topic/general" so you have to comb through pages and pages of dreck just to find out what's happening.

I think this is kinda like with Eskimo and snow, actually... just because casual observer doesn't see much reason to call the snow hundred different words doesn't mean the residents cannot tell the difference -.^ Same with "off-topic" and SC, you can tell reasonably well what to expect in each section, once you read it for a while...

If you notice there isn't a single thread created on this first page to promote Second Citizen. Mother FIC and Cristiano both actively supported additional discussion and community through Second Citizen and SL Universe respectively before the Official Forums closure announcement. There is nothing wrong with having a postive or negative opinion about any of the third-party forums as they all can serve as a home and everyone should be encouraged to explore them all to make their own decision. I would hope no one would look to this forum for an answer of where to join a community, but they should feel free to post thei opinions. Everyone else should feel free to look past those opinions and make a decision for themselves.

As more established communities SL Universe and Second Citizen are in the unenviable place of being "down the list" on Linden Lab's location for community sites, http://secondlife.com/community/fansites.php and http://del.icio.us/secondlife/forum which take a last-in sort approach. There is plenty of room for everyone at all the sites, if you choose to set one as a home, that's your decision, as it is your option to register or lurk at all the sites.

Some people made a comment when the Official Forums closure issue was first raised: it takes time to establish a community. It takes even longer to establish a "personality". Second Citizen has had time to create one based on its membership and host, but there's no reason to believe it is set in stone. That is one of the beautiful things about forums, evolving discussion. Many people just soak in information, others thrive on debate, even more just visit in times of need or boredom.

In the end all of the sites listed here deserve to be visited if you seek diversity of opinion. We should also be thankful that people like Mother FIC and Cristiano are willing to devote time and money to provide such resources for anyone who wishes to take advantage of them. Whether you choose to call either your home, or any of the other sites that has arisen with the blow to community Linden Lab threw at us, make sure you know that the larger whole that is the community of Second Life is willing and wanting to make a difference and allow you to play a part in it!

That would be causing problems here - not problems there. So.. why should they change there forums because some people here have sand in their clits?

I like SC and post there a lot
I like SLU, and am pleased to say traffic there increase
I like SLHomepage too.

I like people on both sides of this.
Everyone shut up.
Everyone who posts " I dont like forum X" makes people curious about it.
Publicity is publicity.
You like a place or you don't who cares.
You're all making my head hurt.

*enter the n00b*

You know, I never posted here much, having been a late adopter to both SL and the forums. I have, however, been a veteran of many forum wars in many other places, so I've seen a lot of the vitriol being tossed back and forth.

To be honest, the reason I *initially* chose Second Citizen over the official SL forums was the lack of moderation, but not because I wanted to flail around like a lunatic, text guns-a-blazin', and spew a stream of hateful speech or bad typing, or be anyone's idea of ironic.

I chose Second Citizen because the people there seemed HONEST. Not honest as to imply that other forums are dishonest, per se, but honest in the sense that they tell you how they really feel.

Moderation has its place in a company-sponsored forum, where the company may, utlimately, be liable for any of the death threats and whatnot get spouted. However, if I wanted to read sanitized posts, I'd be content with reading the Official Blog.

Ultimately, what annoyed me enough to actually write this is the presumption that everyone who prefers Second Citizen is somehow inferior on the basis of their brethren. Yes, there are some total fuckwits on SC. Yes, there are people there who every time I see their name in front of a post, I cringe, knowing it's going to be foul. But I can respect them for being who they are, and for being straight-forward with saying what they feel. I get an honest take on what's going on there (when taken with a grain of salt), not the "oh, goodness, I better not say anything that offends the Lindens/ResMods/Forum Owner!" I prefer it that way.

Your Mileage May Vary. *But* the act of coming to a sanitized forum to rail against the sins and depravity of people in another forum, to hide behind the sanitary protection of the LL forums that remain. You don't like Second Citizens? Fine. I dislike more than a few of them myself. You want to TELL us you don't like us? Fine. I'd prefer you do it there, but hey, whatever.

Just don't act like you can't leave whenever you want. Tons of forums in the sea, and none of them require bashing Second Citizen in order to gain admission that I know of.

Though I can see the day...

Auggie, Do you think a Ninja and a Pirate can ever find true forum lust? I love this post. I post at SC all the time, and the only 2 people have ever attacked me, Prok, and Cat Cotton, and Cat actually sorta appologized, I have great friends over there, at least one post a day is guarenteed to make me snort diet Dr Pepper. I go to a few other forums, SLU and occasionally Seconlifes, and there are maybe a handful of new posts every day, where as SC has new posts every few minutes. If you don't like SC don't post, if you do like SC, I welcome you openly, probably will hit on you, and generally be a pleasent human being, even though I use naughty words, and don't always agree with everyone.

Yeah... I wondered about that... she must have done something seriously bad towards the "Love Machine" to be assigned the task of posting on SC. Poor girl.

I am at http://forums.secondcitizen.com - And no one have killed me or my IRL body...or hurt me or been rude to me..

It are for sure as P2 write:

”You must have a sense of humor to survive at Second Citizen. ” -P2

I can ad you must have a sense of humor to survive life - any life.

...and who can read or follow al threads... and who can agree on every word written by all others?.. read the ones that you like or are into.,.. or move to another forum... its easy and probably better for your stomach or/and feelings...

Second Citizen has it's fair share of hostility, but there's also plenty of good too. I checked out stratics, and it has such minimal activity (could that be because of the censorship and overbearing rules?) that I couldn't hold interest. Their General forum had about 80 total threads, started by about 4 people, and about half of them were started by the same person - Broccoli Curry. That said, they seem like nice enough folks, but I've honestly never really been a fan of Stratics since I (tried) to work with them a few years back on a collaborative project for a client.

Variety is the spice of life. :)
