Welcome to Second Citizen?

I've been shopping around forums and was told Second Citizen was the largest ... But after looking at their default avatar, I worry about how they must treat their users!

You must have a sense of humor to survive at Second Citizen.

As I said, you need a sense of humor to play at SC; I don't think you qualify.

I like many of the people at SC forums, but I don't think I could be there for an extended period of time.

Yeah I'm with Lo on this. I guess I'm a wuss ... I'm liking the SLUniverse forums though so far.

Over at Stratics (http://sl.stratics.com) we have no such silly rule requiring people to have avatar pictures. The issue to which you refer to - of being forced to have an offensive avatar picture whether you like it or not until you put your own up - has been an issue of great concern, and I know has damaged their reputation.

Being unmoderated and 'free for all', Second Citizen does indeed have its appeal to part of the community, but not all of it.

I would urge you to check out the many other alternative forums that are available; there will be one that suits your needs.

Remember that the amount of traffic or posters is irrelevant; it is down to the simple fact that "size isn't important". Many forums suffer from lurkers who read regularly but don't post, becasuse there's nothing they feel interested in replying to ... so what better way to get around that issue than to start a discussion and see how people respond?

Incidently, over at Stratics, we recently installed a special feature after being requested by several users. Globally, due to the varied nature of the other games Stratics covers, there is a censor filter which removes offensive words from posts. This has now become a user choice on the SL forums, so you can choose to view or block profanities from posts, depending on your personal preference.

Personally, I don't see the same cliques repeatedly tearing into the same individuals as 'rough'.

Instead, it rather reminds me of the movie Mean Girls.

(For those without school age daughters, it's a movie about vindictive little girls being mean to outcasts, and then inevitably, each other.)

Take Lewis' words with a grain of salt. He is a fairly active Second Citizen so this 'could' be deemed as hypocritical.

seeing as I've yet to see anyone that didn't agree with him speak out I think its safe to say what I did. I have a thick skin, but I have a low tolerance for cursing, and immaturity both of which run rampant on SC. You speak of thick skins yet don't demonstrate one in that post.

I'm still at SC. We have over 1000 members now and I would hazard to say your asessment of rampant cursing and immaturity is inaccurate.

I wouldn't count myself as 'fairly active' by any means; most of my posts there have been in self defence against the trolls in the caustic atmosphere of an unmoderated forum.

I browse, to keep up with what's going on, as many do with other forums. No big deal there.

I would be interested to know out of the 1,000 SC signups how many have actually posted in the last month (to be considered active) and how many were spammers. Then I'm sure, like SL's membership figures, it wouldn't be quite such an impressive claim.

SC has it's place, sure, it's just not really mine. Stratics provides all I need.

That's fine and good Lewis. You as a member of SC have access to the answers to your questions. It's vBulletin after all, I'm sure you can figure out how to access the numbers for yourself.
