Rates go bye bye

You see, this is the problem people attack people they dont address the problem. The problem was the rating system was foulable and useless. It was used to create strife in respect to those that initially admired it for what it was.

The first nail in the coffin of course was the L$25 aspect and the day that was implimented many of us that have been here awhile knew the next logical steps.

Unfortunately the most illogical step was taken to Halve the Stipend Delta. Vada Bing that lead on a new logical tangent.

Although this time they took a semi logical step on this one about the six month thing it was still a slap in the face to a great deal of the populace because it wasnt totaly wiped.

Issues noted:

A great upheaval of whinning and crying people were loosing thier money because of rates. But of those "Whinners" none considered the fact that the rate system was throughly abused.

Labeling, Ironically the rate whores were labled Clubbers. Sorry not all rate whores are clubbers. So lets clear that up immediately.

Definition of a Rate Whore: A Rate Whore is an individual or individuals that demand return rates whether they deserve them or not. They demand that their effort in the past and present if they throw L$3 or L$75 at you that you must rate them back in all fields whether they deserve them or not.

Thus there you have it the Rate Whores numerically were on top and the top 5% were the most eloquent in doing so. I am sure I am pissing a lot of people off when I say this but Im not sorry and yes the truth hurts and if the shoe fits wear it and GTFOI.

Personally, Those funds comming in from stipend and such meant nothing to me in all honesty.
What was important was my friends liked what I did and others that bought my stuff liked what I have done as they bought it.
Someone noted before that should be all the reward we should get is our sales.
Ironically though thats not totaly the case.

Granted Yadni is upset about his building abilitys and getting slung way down the list because of the rate things.
I agree with him to a point as I am sure Lordfly and a great many others can attest its a shame that people that have no skills at building are labled great builders because of their ratings.

So LL instituted the Rate the builder by clicking on the object. Yes, I have recieved a great many Rates because of that. But still there are a great many out there and especially now that are rated higher than I or Lordfly or Yadi or any other great builder.

In Summary the system is flawed beyond repair every attemp to suppliment or augment the system is more slaps in the face than a Monty Python movie. But again my question is what can we do to fix it. What can LL do to fix it? Finally with those two questions asked if a solution is found will it be adhered to?

Anyway I digress as I was about to flow off into several other tangents pertinent to the overall discussion yet would be a moot process as my words are never read anyway.

I agree. Builders like Cinde, Yadni, Flipper, Obscuro, Cyrus, and a bunch of others are known for their beautiful buildings not ratings.

Reaching what exactly? A leaderboard that the majority of people don't even look at ever or care exists? That's making you angry enough to post in the way you have here? You need to step back a bit. Well a couple of miles, actually. Keep creating the cool stuff you do, but don't throw your toys out of the pram and throwing a hissy fit because you're not getting to the top of silly leaderboards that mean nothing.

When I rated people I never asked them to rate me back. And if they asked if they should I said no. Might be why I only receaved 3000 ratings compaired to the 9000 I gave out.

I never even look at the leader board. This is about principle. There IS NO LOGIC in the decision to remove all rates over 6 months old! My point is that as a community we discuss these issues and the Lindens disregard our suggestions and concerns and make really STUPID fucking decisions anyway. This is where my anger comes from as I would like to think our thoughts and suggestions matter but clearly they don’t. FUCK YOU LINDENS for FUCKING US!

No but you've already admitted several times in other threads (that you don't seem to respond to when the going gets tough, I notice) that you stood at the welcome area and just rated newbies as they arrived. You were abusing the rating system and helping to make it the farce it was by that action alone. The fact that you didn't get as many rates back, is neither here nor there. Now you're reaping the rewards for many people like you doing the same, and you don't like it.

Ebay uses the same exact system, where rates gradually disappear. It seems to work for them just fine.

YadNi, if you got to number two on the leader board because people respected your work in SL, do you think they suddenly now no longer respect your work because you're no longer number two on the leader board? C'mon man. That's crazy. The numbers themselves are meaningless. The respect that caused people to rate you in the first place isn't meaningless. Have you so little faith in your own abilities that you don't think you can get there again if it's so important to you? It's just numbers. People enjoying and using the stuff you've made is what's important. That should mean more to you than any number on a list. If you want people to respect you just keep doing the cool stuff you do... and try and chill the hell out in the meantime (ow, my eyes!)

Try to put some more thought into them from now on, please? Go find one of YadNi's cool builds and rate it, and try not to rate a dozen people you've never spoken to on the way there, eh? Yeesh!

Ebay does not use the same system....rates only dissapear if they are successfuly disputed. I have never had a rate fade away.
