See this is exactly what I'm talkin about! Its great builders like this that are going to get shit end of the deal here.

However, Yadni we all know you are a great builder without the ratings. I hope you know that.

Were rates ever really accurate, though? Did being on the leaderboard ever get you anything? No, that's why I deduce LL made the changes to ratings - so rates are a little more accurate.

Come on, what's the real reward? Making cool games that people love to play, getting front page attention from Linden Lab, getting dwell / traffic bonuses...

... or getting on the leaderboard, which was/is full of rate abusers and meant absolutely nothing?

Some of the best builders are recluses, and never get rates.

Take a smoke break, maybe switch to decaff this morning, and just think of how much respect people have for you for everything BUT the broken leaderboard.

I keep seeing this sentiment over and over here in the two rate threads that they should be abolished totaly.

Funny thing is when this was all in discussion previously I mentioned what is happening now was going to happen.

You make seriously good points Shadow and I totally agree with you. I am scratching my head at this one. I remember distinctly the majority of folks responding saying zero em out or get rid of em totally. As apparent now though, the Lindens are smoking the good stuff and only appear to listen. I seriously can't figure out this logic as it directly impacts folks like yourself that helped LL get where they are today. Totally ludicrous IMNSHO.

I cant say weather or not youre are/were a rate whore, as I dont know you. But I believe
most people think that if youve given 9000+ rates, that statistcally there must have been
more than one situation, where you stood in a croweded room and +3 rated everyone you saw. If that has occured with you, it just happened to be that you only got a 1/3 return on your efforts. Who knows if this happened or not with you.

I know I used to rate whore. When I first signed up, before I even knew what rates really were, everyone I talked to told me to rate everyone I met. I did so and then realized that
I got more $L per week when I did. I was happy and figured that everyone did this since
just about everyone I got help from as a newbie told me I should. So I guess I was raised a rate whore, lol.

All this is most likely a moot point now as it seems from the hotline section that they are working on an entirely new reputation system, which it sounds like would replace the current rating system all together. So sooner or later bye bye ratings all together.

Win what? Can you honestly tell me the name of one respectable player who really cares at all about the Leaderboard? I can't think of one.

These clubbers will, over time, watch their rates plummet, too.

But that's besides the point, Yadni. That chart is flawed. It can never really show who's "the best" as if there was such a thing. There are so many talented people in SL, you being one of them, and they do so many talented things.

What about the Lindens? They're the most responsible for making this happen, but none of them are on the Leaderboard! Seriously, Yadni. The leaderboard is hosh-posh.


I honestly say I'm speechless. As a builder I've always gotten the most reward just from seeing people enjoy my builds / using my scripts / etc. Competition for ranking was always... not in my mind. So I really don't understand where you come from too well.

That aside, there's not much I can say. I hope you realize a lot of people respect you as a builder, and that you'll calm down and realize that and be happy.

Kris my dear, some of us...alot of us oldbies aren't sitting on our asses doing nothing. I'm not asking for money back, what's done is done. There's no sense in arguing about it anymore because nothing is going to change. At some point they're going to introduce a new system and this lovely ratings system will be out the door completely.

What Evangeline said, I am barely over 6 months old, so won't lose a whole bunch in one go, but I too am sad to see that the money I spent on ppl will go, but well what can ya do, be fair LL and just wipe us all to 0, then lets see who are rate whores and who are not

It ought to be obvious who I'm talking about. Don't forget, it affected every one of us. Think about it; for the most part I stay on my own private island doing my own thing and have done since April last year. Before that, I stayed in Immaculate doing my own thing. Virtually every one of my rates has been earned by people coming to visit ME and seeing what I've achieved. So in my opinion, I damn well earned them.

But as we all know, the ratings system is hopelessly broken, and I've really never cared for it. However, yes, I do believe it's 'fairer' now than it was, with the exception that rate whores who did most of their whoring within the last six months are 'winning'

If the rating system lasts that long, they lose out next time round

I am an Aces spade rate whore nope not at all some might think otherwise but yanoo.. i don't give a rats ass ..i have been here over a year and collected a nice amount of rates from friendly people whom i have helped gett started in SL and now that's all gone.. I am with Darko when he said wipe them all out, get rid of the rate system...i will not rate anyone again, not at those prices
