IT's kind of sad to see the ratings go, even though technically they didn't mean a lot. I got most of my ratings my first six months, so I guess a great many of the newer players (esp. rate-miners) will have many times my ratings. Ah well.

Whoa while walking around the welcome area I noticed some people still have 700+ rating in each field. ??? Is the decay still going on and just hasn't hit them yet or did they luck out and get to keep the $1 ratings while I got 3/4th of mine taken away?

What was the deal with 6 months? I may have missed that post .. what changed that caused ratings to not mean anything before this time?

It's like this... because new players were gaming the ratings to boost their payouts, LL has decided to remove ratings from older players. I'm not sure how that balances things out, but that's what's happening. Any ratings older than 6 months are now gone.

I wish I knew what happened 6 months ago that caused all new ratings to be considered genuine. The newer players who ran around the last 6 months getting rated lucked out. I unfortunately have been going to SL parties with people I've already been rated by. So I was only able to get a few new ratings in the past 6 months.

It'll even out in another six months I was always too much of a hermit to get rated much anyway. At least this way newer people who may be less able to easily absorb the resulting bonus reduction have quite a while to find alternate sources of income. I feel kinda naked now though, hehe.

You're misunderstanding the new system. Once a rating is six months old, it's removed. So a rating you get today will be there for 6 months. A rating recieved last month will have another 5 months to go. It's not that anything happened to invalidate ratings older than 6 months. The new system will routinely remove ratings after they have been around for 6 months.

i think every one should make an effort to maintain zero ratings across the board and that way we will eliminate ratings since LL will not.

Nice concept, but as the game-theorists are fond of saying "you ain't seen nothing yet". In the world of the rateless, the one rated person gets the whole bonus pool. Or put in game theory jargon, the proposed system is a defector's paradise.

I really wish we could "hold on" to previous rates, just for historical purposes. (Not to count for stipend bonuses or anything) We have all these SL legends that are walking around as newbs now. They should have something to show to represent their incredible contributions to SL.

Idea: Maybe we could have another profile page. "Total Ratings Ever" It could be opt-in/opt-out, so people who're happy that their negs have been erased can keep them erased. So everyone can be happy

I paid 9050 to rate people. If I do not get back what was deleated, I will not rate people. I am so tired of only one side seemingly getting their way in this. And this whole situation has made me so angery.

You paid 9050, and the people you rated got a slight bump in their stipend bonus for their rating. You did not get anything in return, except perhaps someone rating you back in a quid pro quo fashion (how meaningful). The fact that ratings have a cost to give to someone gives them meaning - and a meaning which has been enjoyed by those who have had them - they have been more than rewarded time and again in their bonus over the past year for their ratings. My god, how much money do you want LL to endlessly pay out? There is absolutely nothing that you deserve any kind of refund for.

Magnum, the point you are missing is that you contributed to the whole rate whoring process. You cannot even begin to tell me that you gave out probably even half of those ratings with any consideration other than "here's a rating for you". That is not a rating - a rating with no meaning or value attached to it is meaningless. If every review is 5 stars, then a review system has no merit. The ratings system is fundamentally, irreparably broken - and a big part of it is the fact that people who could not build a freaming prim sit at the top of the building leader boards because of people just like you who hand out meaningless ratings. Kris may have put it hashly, but she is right. If it looks like a duck...

When I gave my ratings out, I never once asked people to rate me and when they asked shoud I rate you back, I said no. Maybe why I only got 3000 overall.

Lots of people told me they appreciate the positive rating. One even said It turned their day around. but a lot of people ignored me when I rated them and that is just fine. I knew deep down they felt better because of my positive rating.

I only receaved a combined total of 3000. Not 3000 Approval not 3000 build. I had about 500 build 1200 clothing and 1400 behaviour.

And I have been in Second Life a year. And I tried to rate 10 people a day because I thought I was making people feel better.

Then why is that not enough for you? You rated them, it's done - but instead you are complaining about deserving refunds, how much money you put in, blah blah blah. You rated them - what happens after that is irrelevant - especially ratings you gave over 6 months ago. You can't even tell me who you rated last week versus this week, let alone a year ago.

Yes, rating people can have a positive effect, if you do it with some meaning. Again, just giving them out without any thought other than "here are some ratings" detracts from that, to the point of irrelevance.

Quit eating those air fresheners - he gave out 9050 ratings, not received them. He is mad that the ratings he gave out disappeared. A noble angle, I suppose, but the end result is the same.
