This is a shame, especially a mentor.. WOW... I am wondering if LL will take action.

My unfortunate, anecdotable experiences lately are that just because someone is a "Mentor" or "Live Helper" does not necessarily point to a testament of their leadership and guidance abilities in the community in a friendly AND knowledgeable capacity. I've seen some disapponting stuff in recent memory involving Mentors and "bad behavior".

Again, for me, it comes down to the individual who wears the title. I would hope the majority in these Linden-appointed groups, though, continue to maintain a collective excellence in helping the community to progress. Otherwise, it stains the title, don't it? :)

Well you know... I was a mentor once upon a time, and I was asked to leave because I posted a conversation that I had with a Linden...Yes, it was against the TOS... and in this case it may not be, but it certainly doesn't make a good represenative to the SL community.

No, I don't believe LL will take action. This specific case has been brought to the Lindens over a month ago. They know about the whole thing, mentor & instructor and all.

Net result: No change :)

It really bothers me that no action has been taken. I can understand for legal reasons why LL might not want to step in for disciplinary action. But how hard would it be to say, "You can either sell other people's stuff or you can be a mentor & instructor."?

Doing nothing in this case is essentially condoning this kind of behaviour. At least, that's how I interpret this.

Maybe someone should IM Philip Linden and at least direct him to this thread in hopes of some sort of feedback?

I can almost see the Lindens winking at this rip-off artist now ("no worries mi amigo, we won't do a thing";).

-aimee

I won't even bother quoting your other post. My work has been ripped off, so has Jenn's, in fact, we were the ones that alerted everyone about this problem in the first place.

Your posts are absolutely ridiculous though. This was a bug. Having a bug in the code is FAR from your accusation of collusion with the residents stealing other peoples' creations. Unless I've missed something and you care to provide the evidence?

The last time I saw a problem like this, Mistress and I went to the spot, neg rated the person, sighed, had a laugh together, and I put up one of Cubey's "RIP OFF ARTIST" cubes. Before she and I had left the location, Michael Linden had already shown up - as fast as we did from the forum post - and removed all the items and taken care of the rip off artist. We thanked him and moved on. What more do you expect?

What do you want them to do? Never have our confidence again because of one bug? Yes, its affected us all, but some of us are letting it affect us far too much. If that's the worst thing that's happened to content creators in the past year in SL, I think they're far ahead of the RL curve. Ask anyone holding RL copyrights.

Regards,

-Flip

PS - disclaims - the last post was in NO WAY meant to defend the schmucks who partake in this horrible, dishonest behavior. Just to point out the Lindens are to blame for the bug, but not to be accused of collusion with the most dishonest people in the SL community.

Other disclaimer: and I love Aimee, I just disagree with her on this one! :-)

There seems to be more and more of these kinds of "Lindens do nothing" cases.

If the Lindens are going to be lax on enforcement, is it possible we can use thier hands-off approach to our advantage? Form like, a Content Creator's Rights group (Union?).... and do what we can within the TOS (as close to the line as we dare to go) to discourage theft? Example. What if we found our items on sale in Imogel's store, and placed a giant prim over that vender making it inaccessable? or Perhaps we could hold a forum campaign to OUT people that steal? We could rip-off any original works sold by thieves (if any) and give them out for free at a nearby vender.

I can think of a HUGE list of reason why this is a bad idea. But if the Linden's enforcement policy is going to be "Wild Wild West" style, I feel like us honest folk are going to have to get a six shooter and defend ourselves someday.

Well after reading this thread I went to the store, purchased a copy of the skates she has there and took a good look at them. Visually, yes, they're almost a carbon copy of my skates and initially I thought that the script and animations inside were mine as well, but I'm not so sure after a closer inspection. Reason is that there's only one anim in there (a skating anim) but other anims (for the tricks) aren't there and the animation that raises your standing position to take account of skate size isn't there either so the wheels go through the ground.

So, apart from them looking pretty much exactly the same I couldn't actually say whether it's my script or skate anim (the anim looks similar, but then it's skating so I'd expect it to look pretty similar). It's difficult when a product only really visually looks alike. I mean you get plenty of rival products that look alike in real life, so whether or not I should feel agrieved about that alone I'm not sure. Sure it's kind of annoying that somebody copies the visual aspect of my product, but I'm not sure there's much else you can say really. That's the way things happen in real life and there isn't much recourse there.

Okay, I don't get it. Can you explain more about this case Flipper?

I don't understand what the difference in that case and this case was that made the Lindens very willing to step in there, but completely unwilling to step in here.

*confused at what LL policy is*

*IMs person, neggs, files abuse report*

Grr, a thief is worse than an SA Goon. Hmm, or IS the owner of the store a goon?

What do you want them to do?

I want a Linden to make Imogel take down any sale items that have another person labled as the creator when that creator protests the resale of her item. (Mistress Midnight being the primary example here).

As Fran just said, the lindens have seen this place a month ago, and still will not act.

I used to have this shining image of Mentors and Live Helpers all being, you know, some sorta Stephen Kingish-Gunslingers or even Shaolin Monks from Brooklyn, aka The Wu-Tang Clan but more honorable when it comes to the law of the land. ;)

Alas, such an image didn't hold collectively, but on the flipside, I got to know some dayum fiiine Mentors and Live Helpers individually -- and some people who are both! They are of high moral fiber when it's called for, and yet can "flip" ;) and do some rude and raunchy stuff when it's "appropriate", and perform it in such a way that it comes across more classily than the London Philharmonic and Intergalactic Space Orchestra... COMBINED! In other words, NOT GREEFER KIN. My mind boggles.

Why does it so often come down to the individual for me? Why?!?! :D

~~~
Moopf, your skates (both roller and ice variations) are the proverbial shiznit. You gonna make a v2 soon with more trickage and stuff? Maybe punch that ahead of the "competition" and we'll be... uh... skatin' all the way to the particle rainbow.
You know what they say about imitation too...
Reminiscent of:
Bangkok counterfeit market.
Somewhere in the multiverse, they're sellin' Reeboques and Naikees.
Nah, there won't be any new versions. When I stopped selling in-world the only things I left out (because I was pleaded with!) were the roller skate vendors at the skate parks that had built up with them there. I didn't have the heart to whip them out from the park owners, so I left them. Then Garth and Pituca asked me if I'd put together some ice skates for this winter, so I put those out. Then LL asked if they could give them away at the winter festivities so I let them and set the ice skates to be free in the few places they are now. But as for more development, those days are behind me for a while.
... just an observation... no matter what the issue is, if aimee's for it, flip's against it.
lol
anyhow, they're my "french pigtails" and she sells them as "rattails" which name me as the creator.
I've asked her to take them down, she wont.
If I can't force her to stop selling my stuff, who can?
Yep within 24 hours of the Superthottub 1.0 being given away it was racked - stacked - and for sale... we're talking v1.2 of SL -- I would say a couple of weeks before 1.3
So if you get the 'I didn't know any better' excuse - well I'm afraid someone be tryin to play you..
Siggy.
Can anybody post the items that the person is selling and who they originally belong to? I can't go inworld right now (I'm sick and can barely sit long enough to write this), but I would like to know who's items are there.
P.S. Sometimes boxed sets can have "nobody" as a creator, especially if the set includes a skin,avatar hair and/or shape. Until we can "take off" our skin, this will happen if you sell tattoos, make-up, etc.
I was just going to say the same thing. First she insisted she made it and told me to stop being a bitch, then when I pointed out they were your scripts, she told me a friend of hers made it and she was trying to protect him.
She's been doing this since long before she was a mentor. Guess she can teach others how to do it now too.
LL why in the hell has this loser not been:
1. Removed from being a mentor. Unless this is the kinda behavior you want to promote in SL?
2. Been suspended for being the lowlife thief that she is?
I wish a Linden would tell us!
By the way, I neg rated her for reselling other people's stuff, and of course she neg rated me right back. :( It's so frustrating that there is literally nothing anybody can do about this.
