Great...I figured out why the beta drivers and main drivers havent worked for me...cause my ****ing mainboard isnt supported by ATi I have to use whatever ASUS gives me and guess what? SL doesnt support ASUS' drivers and probably never will. I can't even get the right drivers to show up in Vista, it still says I'm using drivers from Dec. of last year when I should be on the feb release. But oh well, I only wasted $1,500 and 2 years supporting SL.
I can't even use the workaround anymore. I constantly get the "LOL UR GRAFIX DIRVURZ R OUT OF D8 OR UNSUPPORTED GODAITHX" message.

Cool, I'm glad my build worked for those of you who had the 7.2 drivers. The 7.3 drivers work great now and you all can now use the official release builds. Congrats on making the longest friggin' thread on this forum

ATI in their wisdom did most of the work so that crossfire could now work. Unfortunately there is no crossfire for Mobility, so ATI thinks we don't need it. Yay!

Windows Vista on Dell Inspiron 9100 with ATI Mobility 9800 (256 MB) and Catalyst 7.3 drivers...I have not been able to get any of the SL releases to launch without crashing (currently have version 1.14.0.1 installed). When in the hell is there going to be a working version for Vista/ATI mobility? Seriously, we are talking about the current version of one of the most popular OS's in the world and a major video card company. I am dumbfounded as to why there is not support for this yet. Can anyone offer any suggestions, please?

ATI. 7.3 Vista SL its worse.
04-03-2007 14:38
The new ATI 7.3 drivers makes my computer work even worse than befor, then i could run VistaSL but know everything runs to a crawl after 5 minutes. When i was running XP on the same machine everything was fine.
Lucky for me i have a old XP computer so i can log in anyway. I think when ATI Vista SL are fixed its time to uppgrad again. Bad buy for me uhhh.

You're right; I have been checking their site daily looking for a new driver for my mobility x1400 with no such luck. I am about darn ready to reinstall XP on my laptop just for SecondLife *grumble*

Stuck?
04-05-2007 07:29
So those of us with Radeon Mobility are stuck with VistaSL still? I mean it works fine for me but I'd like to be able to upgrade to the latest client version.

Since february i'm using Vista home Premium with a Radeon X1600 Series with the newest driver and Catalyst 7.3. When i installed Vista, Second Life stopped working when trying to log in with the usual error message.
After a while, i needed to reinstall Vista. Now, i launch Second Life, it sais "detecting hardware" and then... nothing happens. In the task manager, second life is listed, but no task is shown and i can't open it.
I installed VistaSL 1.14.0.0, but that didn't change anything. Does anyone know what to do?

User-compiled version of Second Life with some tweaks that bypass the problems that are in ATI's 7.1 - 7.2 drivers. Link: VistaSL 1.14.0.0: http://www.noxforum.net/files/VistaSL%20Setup.exeQuestion, does anyone here need 1.14.0.1 version compiled? If so, tell me, if not, then I won't compile one.

I love how they changed Vista definition ; P Ready for Windows Vista™ (old) "...The Windows Vista Capable logo is designed to assure customers that the PCs they buy today will be ready for an upgrade to Windows Vista and can run the core experiences of Windows Vista." is now > Windows Vista "capable"™ (new) "...Some features available in the premium editions of Windows Vista — like the new Windows Aero user experience — may require advanced or additional hardware." (link) (bunch of crap : p quick cover your legal stuff MS ~.o) Ati~Vista~not opengl ready, especially for Secondlife as it is now. Right now Ati and Vista is just aggrivating , Ati still behind in the opengl drivers, Hypermemory is ~.~ it takes your ram and uses it on vid card, trouble is Vista already does this, forget wich % but a 320mb vid card with 2gig ram takes 768mb extra on vista and uses it on vid card ~ so Vista think its 1024mb on vid card prob aero crap that does this My brother pc with vista/8800nvidia 320mb does this, as im not touching Vista till after summer ish when they are actually need dx10 on something. Think my 7900nvidia used about the same amount on vista +512/768 ram use on vid card cache(aero?o.o) What is it? HyperMemory™ is ATI’s innovative technology that enables a reduction in the amount of on-board memory on a graphics card without compromising its overall performance. Its advanced memory management technology makes more efficient use of all the available memory in computers with PCI Express® technology. Graphics applications can share system memory and use fast on-board memory for real-time processing between the graphics card and the computer’s memory. This ultimately increases the affordability of ATI’s RADEON® graphics technology. why cant they just say , "we save money and use your ram instead so you have to buymore ram" : p , this is why they are cheap to make and sell, low power tho, prob why laptops have it. Right now i wouldnt hold my breath for having any Ati working with SL without annoyance and something that take longer to figure out then to keep xp as secondboot instead till they get someone working on opengl.

Also, this is a note to those of you who are using a mobility card and think that they are running Catalyst drivers 7.3 check the version in the catalyst control center. Chances are that despite the fact that you think you installed 7.3 it didn't and you are still stuck with using 7.2. That is most likely why the official releases will not work for you, despite other people saying it is working for them now.
I have also proposed a boycott of ATI products until they learn that their customers cannot simply be abandoned because they do not want to deal with making their drivers work in Vista anymore.

More tilting at windmills, Don Quixote.
It even states in the text you quoted that you have to get them from the manufacturer.
Nothing about this situation is out of the ordinary for laptop users.
Don't like it? Buy a desktop. Laptops are limited because of the basic nature of what they are: small, self-contained, specially-designed, highly compact systems. If you want desktop flexibility from one, you're gonna be waiting a long damn time.

You know, the one that actually runs second life. ATI is going all "fuck you". EDIT: And I thought I should mention that this only applies to Vista users. XP user are still supported by ATI so tell me, how are Vista users not being screwed by ATI?
