Yeah, the person who made it only integrated a few minor changes that were listed in this thread, there was a lot of debugging done in the VistaSL program and little fixes to increase stability, the first look viewer lacks that and since being compiled, the person who made it has not made any updates.

I do keep an active eye on this thread and SL to see if there are any developments. Since there haven't been, I haven't done much. I would be willing to post more First View client updates if you guys wanted them, I just don't see the demand. Also, the link to the stable version still works. Here is it again:

Thanks. Also, there seems to be an issue now with the textures going all colorful and looking almost like scales. Although it is sorta neat to look like a snake, it does get a bit annoying. Is anyone else having this problem? Or just me perhaps....

This issue occurs regardless of whether you are running x64 xp or vista x64. (Both screwed up for me)
It's weird because SL worked after I upgraded my ATI drivers to 7.1, then, just stopped working. Now on Vista it's the same issue.
So it's pretty weird if it worked fine, and then with no change to the ATI drivers, it stopped working. Starting to think there was an SL update that conflicted with ATI's existing x64 drivers?

I will release the newest FL version as soon as the source code is posted on the SecondLife wiki. On a related note, one of the Lindens has decided to take ATI/Vista capability seriously and has decided to look into the solution that I posted earlier, which I use in VistaSL. Hopefully we will see an official client that works sometime in the near future.

woes
03-06-2007 22:35
Hello, hoping someone has some advice for me. I just got, today, a new PC. It has Vista on it (of course) and here are the specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 4600+
Graphic Card: 256 MB ATI Radeon x1300PRO

Well, installed SL and it says I have a generic card.. wont even start. I have updated drivers etc and nothing. I tried installing the program you have posted and get the same error. I am seriously considering downgrading to XP, do you think that will help? Is the card I have compatible?

Much thanks in advance..

In theory, having the latest ATI Vista drivers, 7.1 or 7.2 should fix the generic card problem.

If it doesn't, try installing the latest First Look viewer available from blog.secondlife.com. If you still get a generic card problem, then I don't know the problem. If it crashes, but you don't get that error, then I can help you.

Anyone else have some experience with the x1300 PRO? I don't have one myself.

Thanks Lockhart, in your opinion do you think it would be easier to just downgrade to xp?

That should be spelled "upgrade". :p

Personally, I "upgraded" from XP to 2000. Not being able to do Bluetooth is a cheap price to pay for peace of mind.

Vista isn't revolutionary. It isn't the best thing to have ever happened, but it is an improvement. Still, if you are more comfortable with XP and things, like SL, just don't work in Vista, I would say go back to XP.

Yes, I have an x1300 pro. Install the drivers off of the ATI site, then install VistaSL, and it will run fine.

Would be nice if I could try that, but everytime I try and install the catalyst ATI drivers, it says that the program might not have installed right, and nothing happens lol.. doesnt open up, doesnt even run setup.

**Got it working, thanks!

It is still uploading, sorry. The first upload had an issue, so I had to restart it. Should be done in a couple of minutes.

*Edit: Done*

Good work, as always, if it's as reliable as the original vistaSL client, that'll be good news as the interim client that was compiled was the least reliable thing ever.

Avatar vertex program still refuses to shade bodies and the framerate seems a bit lower, plus HUD items don't rez textures, but this may be an FL bug.

Have you passed on this information of how easy a fix it is onto the SL developers? If its that easy, they should just incorporate it into the main program, and then we'd have no issues.

Unfortunately:

a) This change should be a no-op. The constructor of LLGLEnable() will enable GL_TEXTURE_2D (if it is not already enabled), and the destructor will disable it (if it wasn't already enabled). So, this statement either enables then immediately disables GL_TEXTURE_2D (as soon as the variable texture_2d falls out of scope), or it does nothing (if GL_TEXTURE_2D was already enabled).

b) I tried that change anyway (stranger things have worked) but it did not fix the problem on my system. I also tried putting LLGLEnable tex(GL_TEXTURE_2D) just before the call to glTexSubImage2D (which would be the correct fix if this were the problem) but it did not make any difference.

You are right. My apologies. Seems that I had some extraneous code in there which messed with the function more than I thought. Reviewing the code, I notice that I didn't fix it anymore than just commenting it out would fix it. My search for a fix shall continue.
