From: Foxy Birdbrain The new client works, but it tends to crash -a-t- -r-a-n-d-o-m- -t-i-m-e-s- when typing IM's in game. Yikes! Like I said, XP drivers will work if your not too concerned about Aero for the moment. I'm sure ATI will come out with drivers *glares at ATI*

Connecting to region fails
02-04-2007 16:37
Thanks a lot for "VistaSL", it worked fine until now. The game crashed and since then, every time I want to start it, it fails at "Connection to region".
This damn Vista dialog does not say anymore then "Application not working anymore", however the event log tells something:
Exception-Code is "0xc000000d", Error-Offset is "0x00a17077". I have no clue if this is some sort of Access Violation or sth, but maybe Lockhart, you can translate the offset to a line of code.
Following workarounds failed: -> Tried compatibility mode -> Cleared cache -> Re-Installed VistaSL (After remove) -> Re-Installed ATI Catalyst (No prior remove)
Any hints? Bye, Amie

From: Amie Lukas Exception-Code is "0xc000000d", Error-Offset is "0x00a17077". I would need a full stack trace to get to the root of the problem. I tried breaking on that line and function, but my client never even called it. However, before we get too much into that, I would suggest this first, it will clear out all of the Second Life settings/temp files: Start->Computer In the address box, where it says "> Computer >", click and delete what is there Replace with: %APPDATA% In this folder, delete the folder named "Second Life" That will erase all of the settings, so hopefully that will work. If it doesn't, you can try to uninstall, then delete the C:\Program Files\VistaSL\ folder, and reinstall. All else fails, see whether you can get a more complete error message. Thanks.

Thanks, this worked for me. "dbgview" told me SL had problems unzipping a cached-file, but this should not lead into crash.

Works, mostly! Full screen problem. Menu crash.
02-06-2007 10:28
Amazing. Thanks Lockheart. I was getting ready to install a dual-boot with XP.
When it first started up it maximised on my 1920x1200 widescreen. 2/3 of the screen was garbled graphics. When I restored the window so it was floating, the graphics cleared up perfectly.
Things seem to work fine until I build something. The controls work great; I can edit and select other objects. No problem. But when I delete the object I just made (using the delete keyboard key). BAM. SL white screen of death. A simple restart fixes it.
//
But overall. Hallejulah. This must be a SL problem. Everything rezs way faster on Vista 64 with the new Catalyst drivers. WAY FASTER!

I am really starting to wonder why the Lindens write the code they do. Luckily, small fix again. I also updated to the latest First Look source code (FL-1.13.3.57679). Hopefully, this was a smart choice. If you notice any problems with anything, please post bug reports. Link (same one): http://www.noxforum.net/files/VistaSL Setup.exe

Lockhart,
Thank you very very much for your VistaSL setup program.
I was never able to run SL on my old PC because it was so old and clunky it was no where near the minimum spec.
When I finally saved up for a nice shiny new laptop with a decent spec and Vista I was looking forward to playing all the games that had never worked for me before.
You can imagine, when I installed the official LL copy of SL and it crashed before even starting properly I was mightily cheesed off.
Then I found this thread, downloaded your VistaSL install and so far it runs perfectly.
I have only had time to play around in the turorial section so far but at least it it running,
Again thanks very much indeed.

Oh just in case anyone wants to know the spec that I have it running on,

Auto Crash
02-07-2007 07:58
When I try to connect, I get the dialog box, informing me of streaming media, and the option to disable, or play media, I can't get past that, it freezes, and crashes, please help, I really appreciate all the work you are doing, since the Lindens aren't doing much about this.

This had been working fine for me in Vista, but all of a sudden, yesterday it all stopped working. It tries to log in, and crashes, similar to what it did before the VistaSL patch.

Is this with the version that I posted last night, or the previous version? Try the one I just posted, and if it doesn't work, delete the Second Life folder in the %APPDATA% folder. It seems that quite a few people are crashing during the login, which is different from the crash that exists w/o the Vista patch.

From: Crow610 Mainline it crashes as soon as its precaching or downloading clothing. I have found bugs in that area already, so I will have to take another look. The one fix I did was kind of a hack, so I will need to investigate further. Thanks for the info.

I deleted the cache and it started working again. I swear though, I just started this game and its the buggiest, slowest thing, i've ever run (even on my XP partition). Thanks for making it at least partially work in Vista though.

No difference here... The same exact thing happens. Won't load up with my Vista. Anyway I looked it up and Microsoft says my video card ATI Radeon 9250 isn't compatible with direct X 9.1 fully, hence SL says that the drivers aren't updated. I tried to update the drivers but they didn't have my card with the Vista updates. So I thought what the heck and tried to install the XP ones because it was the only place I could find 9250. Wouldn't even install them I get this error: "Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup." I'm not very smart when it comes to drivers and video cards and such. So naturally I have no clue what its talking about. Or how to fix it. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get around this?? Thx

If I remember correctly, the 9250 doesnt have full support any more from ATi/AMD. And so the inf no longer includes the settings for it. Sorry
