The temp patch no longer works after the update because the client is updated.
We just need to wait for ATi to pull their fingers out,
Or for the newer release of OpenSL viewer and some nice and wonderful forum member to compile it with the fix again, providing that paticualr fix still works.
Thankyou for the effort that went into the first fix, it was much apriciated.

This time I just made an installer for it. This is just an interim solution until ATI releases a "good" driver. As a footnote, be aware that Quicktime support is not builtin for it, so music/video isn't going to work. The link is below:
See below posts
The installer is not perfect (I didn't make the script so I won't complain). Run OpenSL directly, don't have the installer run it for you at the end. Also, you might get an error about msvcr71.dll missing. If you install the offical Second Life along side this one, then you shouldn't get that error.
If someone wants to do this better, please do. My only change to the 20070131a source was the forementioned lines.

Anyone else having trouble even getting the 7.1 driver to install on vista? I have done everything. Stripped everything off the system, uninstalled the hardware. Nothing will get the actual driver to install. Says INI file not found.

But then the map has already been acting flaky on the last couple official releases anyways. Sincere thanks to Lockhart for making an effort. Anyone else think a promotion is in order? Lockhart Linden does have a nice ring to it.

Okay, I stopped using the OpenSL source and started using the one from wiki.secondlife.com. Therefore, Quicktime music/movies should work. The map problem is fixed, even though I don't think it had anything to do with ATI whatsoever, because the crash was due more to not enough sanity checking of data. Link: http://www.noxforum.net/files/VistaSL Setup.exeFrom: XionWolf Udal also if you right click on anything and click inspect you'll crash I didn't have that problem with this new version, so check it out and see whether you still have the issue or not.

OS X has a SL app that works very well, this is only to get SL working properly on vista. Edit:Works awesome on all my vista systems thanks a bunch(Has the curse of using all ATI cards)

Thanks....saved my computer's life with that viewer *removes knife from front of screen*
Now then...when they update the Second Life viewer...does this one become inoperable?

Nah
02-02-2007 19:28
Okay...its clicking any menu button (or outside of the menu) besides "Edit"
Yeah...definately see if you can find the cause...getting quite annoying. *kicks ATi for not releasing proper drivers*

Okay, this is a solution that I tried, and it works perfectly (haven't tried it with Aero yet) 1) Go to www.omegadrivers.com and download the most recent Radeon drivers for Windows XP 2) Go through the installation process, it will create a folder in C:/Program Files/Radeon Omeag Drivers or something along those lines 3) There is an Inf file in there for the drivers, click open and install those drivers. 4) Restart your PC Second Life First Look, along with the main viewer works fine with XP drivers using the Vista Operating System. It seems that we will have to wait for Second Life to support the new built-in OpenGL in the ATI Drivers (because if you look ATI has built in OpenGL, just in a different way I think) I have also created a group in SL named Windows Vista Users...support groups for the win!

I am uploading a new version that fixes the menu error. Again, it seems like it was a bug in the 20070131a branch, not w/ ATI code. Link: http://www.noxforum.net/files/VistaSL Setup.exe

Omega Drivers
02-03-2007 13:38
Just to update, the URL for the WinXP ATI Omega drivers is omegadrivers.net not .com
I haven't tested this out yet since SL is down for updates, but I'll be watching the thread to see where it goes.
Hopefully there will be an official SL release in the near future that runs natively in Vista with the Vista ATI drivers!

Has anyone succeeded in getting Aero working again with those omega drivers? They seem to run SL fine, but they break Aero.

I called Linden Labs, and they were adamant that it was not an SL issue, and referred me to ATI, so looks like they aren't planning anything for it. It would have been nice for them to release information to us residents on their persepective of this issue. I am using the OpenSL on my vista, however, I can't log in to one of my accounts, it freezes at Precaching.

Whoops
02-04-2007 11:56
Whoops, I messed.
Okay, yes use that revised URL. The OmegaDrivers, since they are made for Windows XP, do not work with Aero.
If this new client that he posted works, I'll revert to the Windows Vista drivers.
Windows XP drivers work perfectly fine, except for Aero not working.

The new client works, but it tends to crash -a-t- -r-a-n-d-o-m- -t-i-m-e-s- when typing IM's in game.
