I'm glad Cocoanut showed up - she has many of the same beliefs as Prok, and yet ... here she is, not banned, because she's able to keep a reasonable level of civility.

Well, first of all, I was speaking in the context of what others have said about you - a rhetorical device to make my own point.

And second, it's all in line with my own phorum filosophy, which I have stated a number of times here - I propose not to allow myself to be identified with any "side", to go solely my own way, and to reject any attempt to co-opt me into the "us and them" gunfights that occur so frequently on these threads.

So a post in which I piss everybody off is a good post, you see.

I met Prokofy in Second Life back in March or so, when moving some land.

While I don't always agree with Prokofy, I've never had a problem whatsoever.

If there is a conflict between any two (or more) of you in world or in forums, it is simply none of my business.

I do my best not to make it my business.



It is a curious mark, to be banned for one's ideas - is that really the case?

That would say as much about our culture as it would about Prokofy.

I totally agree. Disagree with Prok, hate him, mute him if he annoys you, but hell, censorship because we dont like his message? NO WAY. As much as i disagreed with so many of his points, I think it was wrong that he was banned from the discussion forums.

Though a few would like to put that notion forward - the answer is 'no'.

Prokofy likes to say she was banned for her ideas because the "FIC" didn't like what she was saying and that the "FIC" controls all of the forums and the Lindens.

But really if you look back at Prokofy's threads, almost all of them were locked because Prokofy eventually degenerates into name calling and direct abuse and harrassment when she doesn't get her way.

She was banned for a good reason and should stay banned. Trolls don't belong on the forums here.

I think Prok's been banned long enough. Banning someone for life because of their outspokenness and occasional abusiveness isn't right. Prok's done her time, and should be allowed back to continue the debate about the SL world WE all love.

Prokofy was banned for starting threads specifically to harass and malign other of residents of Second Life.

I have my problems with the target of this conversation, but I just don't see discussing him as appropriate in a place where he cannot respond.

Send a message to jeska if you feel a certain way on the topic, but don't raise it here.

It's boring when a forum becomes all about one person's fixations, that's my opinion.

Indeed it is. It's quite the gift presented to Prokofy, as it encourages him to deal with his fixations in a healthier way than starting forum threads and derailing perfectly neutral topics. For Prokofy's own sake, then, the ban should remain.

I don't dispute this. My reasoning is this, however: if our actions in the forums are supposed to be treated as if they were in-world, it seems more consistent to either ban entirely or not to. The "ban from forums but not from world" seems a compromise; Prok isn't as major as Anshe, but still represents a fair chunk of change to Linden Lab.

I mean, obviously, I reckon even if Prokofy was unbanned there's be a slight database grind for a second as the bulk of the forum added him to the Ignore List...

I think it belittles LL to say that Prok was banned for stating ideas. It was the cruel tone Prok posted. If you have not been one of the victims, you would not understand. But don't make fun of other people's pain, until you've been there.

You are most fortunate, there have been many in who have felt the way you do, and then they were the subject of Prok's wrath and came out singing a different tune. Just be thankful and let this whole thing go.
