The prophecy is true! At the end of the forums, Prok shall be born again and take the believers up to a holy forum while the sinners are forced to post comments in Linden blogs!

Welcome back Prok!

Best post ever!

When I signed up for my account I saw two rules, as others in this thread has mentioned. I follow both of those rules. I don't spam, and I chose an avatar.

yeah the first rule is a good one: do not spam. The second rule is a stupid one: you must have an avatar. I fail to see any point in the rule and thus I will not bother with second citizen.

Thius is before we arrive at the abysmal conduct evidenced in these forums. Not to metion the fact that the gadfly was banned by LL, who are certainly smart enough to link accounts via IP. Yes people insist the OP in this thread is Prokofy. Having been labelled Prokofy's alt myself when I was new, I found the practice of alt naming ignorant and juvenile. I still find it ignorant and juvenile.

Wait, so you aren't Prok's alt?

I am going to have to go Ask Jake about this.

Which of SC's two rules would you find it hard to adhere to:

1. No spam
2. Get an avatar

I'm just curious because you agree to an entire page of rules here (the TOS). Yet you find adhereing to two rules over there a hardship. Why is that?

See my above post. Getting an avatar is stupid and pointless to me, I haven't done so in years on the Sl forum, so why bother on another forum?

I mean really having the rule in the first place, and being pig headed about enforcing it is no sillier than my refusal to follow it.

uh, I just lurked there but wasn't that rule created just to, you know, bug certain people?

I'm getting my SL forum fix while it lasts and then I'm not moving anywhere, I spend way too much time on this forum as it is. :o

I just had to say something about sl stratics:

I am not giving my credit card info and mailing address just to be on a forum. No way. Absolutely no way. --And all for a forum that censors, and is on a really slow server, and I get to see ads for other games. Nope, sorry, no way.

Well lecktor, I'll miss you guys too..but I am retireing from the answering game. And mostyl from the SL game, at elast in the incarnation of jake. Its time to explore other paths. Jake, and ask Jake were creatures of these forums, and the closing of these forums tells me its time to come up with something else.

I just don't knmow what..maybe redneck starwrs anime...we can go bantha tipping at midnight.

Is prokofy a horrible presence on the SC forums? Yep.

But so are the rest of us.

I do find it humorous, though, that for all of the moderator/owner's "tolerance" of not banning anyone on the SC forums, giving an ultimatum of clowning prok up or booting her off the island is hypocritical and stupid.

If you're going to allow unfettered access, you have to take the bad with the good. You can't pick and choose who stays in a "free" environment.

On the other hand, I called it that Prok would be the first person banned on SC.

I suppose I win the Internet.

Prok was not banned from SC. It was apparently an unfortunate sort of horsing around which I trust won't repeat itself.

Isn't the Stratics company well known for censoring whole blocks of people at a time for various posts? I do believe the Sims Online community was up in arms about it, and possibly the Ultima Online community.

I don't recall anything like that happening.

ok there are two sides to every story. Prok's alt is telling her side of the story.

SecondCitizen doesn't have many rules. Really it doesn't. A lot less than this and a lot less than Lewis' beloved Stratics (which does have politics despite his thinking it doesn't). As a matter of fact, I believe SC has two rules: 1. Don't spam. 2. Get an avatar.

That's it. Not so hard really to do either. I mean you all put up with a lot more here. Furthermore these are private boards. There are other places Prok could go if he felt he couldnt' handle the no avatar.

But see, for him, not getting an avatar was a personal challenge to the owners of that board. He even made a post about saying he wasn't going to get an avatar and there was nothing the board owners could do about it and issued it as a challenge for them to do something about it. (http://forums.secondcitizen.com/showpost.php?p=24970&postcount=16)

When you say to someone "I double dare you to do X" -- don't be surprised if that person ups and responds to the dare! Geesh.

And Alex didn't bow to pressure. He's just as much a fan of avatars as anyone else.

Once again Prokofy presents you with a half-truth and its 'awww poor Prok'. I fell for that too. But there's more to this sob story than meets the eye.

No. It absolutely does not have any such rule. That would be ludicrous.

The only rule is no automated-type spam.

The whole "get an avatar" thing was just a sort of fun thing.

Unfortunately, it got carried too far in this instance. Last I looked, the enforced avatar had been removed.

Really, this is beyond the pale. There was no such rule, and I am completely apalled that you would dare write the above post. You are damaging SC more than the original ill-considered action did.

You are the one presenting not a half-truth, but an outright lie. I'm willing to think it is just cause you didn't know better, though, having not been there from the beginning. You really did think this was an actual rule; it was not.

Are you sure you aren't getting confused with the regular Stratics service (which is free), and Stratics Plus, which is an enhanced paid service that gives you a few goodies and removes advertising?

If you go to the forums, then click on the "New User" link, you can sign up for free. The "Plus" service is handled externally by Flashlink, and Stratics receive no billing details, only a flag that "Plus" is enabled on that account..

So, no fear, Stratics remains free unless you choose the Plus service.

As for 'censorship'... there are a few basic rules, common to most forums, as to what is and isn't acceptable conduct, just like you had to agree to before you signed up here. It's certainly not censorship by any stretch of the imagination.

Links for other games a problem? Most of us probably came here from playing other online games, and what better place to inform gamers than a gamer forum? I know the 'is SL a game or not' debate has been thrashed out many times before but Stratics, being the largest multi-game site there is is probably the best place for a forum to be, and certainly none of the other SL forums can claim anywhere near the exposure that Stratics can offer to people already interested in online environments of all types, possibly even between all the other forums combined.

Cocoanut is right, there was no rule that you had to have an avatar. It was not stated as part of your signup - it was just a running joke that was said by a few people (and then others jumped on the bandwagon). To claim it was a rule of the site is definitely misrepresenting it.

I am no fan of Prokofy's, and I am not sure why Prokofy would be so adamant about not having an avatar (and also why Prokofy has lost the ability to quote other posts correctly), but this whole situation is just plain silly. Prokofy is not flaunting some important sacred rule of the forum, and scrambling now to try to rewrite the rules is not the same as something having been a rule all along.. The whole thing is overblown and ridiculously arbitrary. Prokofy's insistence on not having an avatar was childish, and so was the fucktard icon that was forced upon Prokofy.

Mainly though, none of this has anything what the fucksoever to do with the SL forums, so why is this thread even still here? Did they can the intrepid resmods?

Lewis,

I don't know why you keep misrepresenting Stratics - it is notorious for its heavy handed moderation policies, which are much more far reaching than most sites. This is not news, it has been going on for a very long time.

Well I've been using Stratics since November 2003 and I certainly haven't seen "heavy handed moderation" on the TSO forums that I have been using.

If you mean "people getting warnings and bans for repeatedly breaking the rules by discussing cheats and exploits, and selling game items for real money", all of which are expressly forbidden in the TSO site rules of conduct then that isn't heavy handed moderation, it's moderation working exactly how it is meant to, which every user agreed to upon signup.

I'm aware that many ex-TSO players came to Second Life. Each Stratics forum has its own community feel, because each game is different, and I would urge you not to tie in any past problems that you may have felt without giving Stratics Second Life a try. You may just be pleasantly surprised at how nice a calm, friendly, laid back forum is to post in.

There is no "new user" link. The only link I can find is "Sign Up" and then when I click that, the only option is to join, then when I go to join, it wants my address and credit card number.

Please give a link to this "new user" link you mentioned. Thanks.

Either go to the main page http://sl.stratics.com and scroll down on the left hand side to "Forum Index" under "Community Forums", or go to http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/stratics/ubbthreads.php?Cat=22

Along the top is a "New User" link. Follow the instructions, reply to the email, and you should be good to go.

I finally got on, and there's only one message on general discussion that's from today--and that's "help guides". Not very active, and no wonder, the server is really really really slow, and to get a membership one can't just "sign up", they have to go through several steps That's quite allright. I'll check that forum once in a while, but it doesn't look very promising.

This is an excuse to get rid of a person they don't like.

*shrug*

I don't think the owner needs an excuse, if they want rid of someone, ban, forget - that's the beauty of ownership. The fact that Prok isn't banned speaks clearly.
