And yet, SC has exactly 2 rules and you think that is too stringent for people to follow. Imagine that!

I dont want to get an avitar ... lots of reasons ... one is it's yet one more decision to make about something I barely understand (the machinery of forums).

So, I guess Im not good enough to move to your neighborhood when I am homeless here.

shrugs... just seems not a lot to ask -- this forum asked a lot more of you yet you didn't mind that.

One post after another? I said it once to you here, maybe another time on SC. You decided, even though you knew your hosts wishes were to the contrary, that you would travel avatarless. You even deleted the avatar you had. If that's not rude, I don't know what is. I don't have to have been around from the beginning to recognize rudeness.

It may also have been against the rules. I viewed these things as rules -- unwritten but rules nonetheless -- you did not. That's fine and I don't care to debate whether or not these are really rules. Seems pointless.

But something you cannot argue about is that they were the owner's wishes. He made that abundantly clear. You also cannot argue that Prok actively baited and dared Fic to do something about his lack of avatar. I'm not painting anything darlin. I'm tellin it like it is.

You may have a point there. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing the anti-spam rule written down anywhere, either.

However, I will say that the anti-spam rule was known and well understood. If someone posted "Get a Free I-Pod Here" it was dealt with immediately.

That is entirely different from the fun thing of demanding an avatar. I have been on been on the SC forums from its inception, and you have not. My impression of it has always been that the no-spam rule was indeed a rule, but the avatar thing was a joke that developed over time ("Get an avatar or Gabe will kill you!";).

Moreover, Vivianne, you are a Jinny-come-lately to those forums, yet you dare to lecture me in one post after another about how "rude" I am, and so forth. (Not to mention your tiresome Prok references.)

Since the beginning, I have worked to publicize those forums and help them grow. Ask Alex/FIC. He knows, and he's honest enough to tell you that is true. So don't you lecture me about being rude or anything else.

The simple fact of the matter was it was horrible to use forum powers to enforce a disgusting avatar on a poster, and what is going on now - aided and abetted by you - is an attempt to paint it as someone refusing to go along with the rules, which was absolutely NOT the case.

Again, I give you something of a pass because you were not there from the beginning, and you may indeed feel this is how it all went down.

No, to tell you the truth, I never understood having an avatar to be the owner's wishes. I understood it to be something Gabe started, and sort of a fun thing to haze new members with.

I never thought of it as something that would be abused and used against a poster.

I removed my avatar not to be rude, but to make a point.

Ah, Second Citizen.

I read the stuff over there. It's like the SL forums, just...even more vicious. And much more cliqueish. Hell will freeze over first before I become a regular poster there, though. I mean, it doesn't take a lot of mental effort to realize that, hey, if the pond is packed with flesh-ripping pirhanas, it's best to NOT go wading.

Unless you really like that sort of pain, I guess. It's clear lots of folks do! :D

On the actual topic of the thread: shame on the admins for doing that. How petty.

The rules of this forum made sense to me. And they were written rules. The Unwritten Avatar Rule seems arbitrary to me. and unwritten. It makes me wonder what other unwritten rules one may run afoul of.

I always saw it as something the owners wanted. Therefore I complied. Regardless you cannot argue that in recent weeks, Fic has made his wishes known in this area and therefore things just *might* have changed.

The only point you made was that you were willing to be rude in order to show support for Prok. You may not have meant to be rude, but it came off that way nonetheless.

seems to me you and others are just lookin for excuses. but it works out well -- don't think you'd fit in there much anyway and from what I've seen of you, I know I'd rather not interact with you. Have fun where you wind up though :)

At the end of the day, or the start of the thread - at the base level, where the tin tacks are.....

Really....

Who gives a fuck?

Lets look at the levels of 'giveafuckitlity'

Ok - its about another forum... those that like it there post - those that don't don't...
The forum owner put a funny picture as someones av - which they can change...

I mean - is it possible for me to give LESS of a fuck about this already?

The only moderately interesting/funny thing about it is that it happened to Prok - and has the 'usual suspects' in an indignant uproar.

A. I was not aware that in recent weeks, Fic has made his wishes known. Today, though, I took a gander at those various threads which have titles indicating that they aren't important at all - just horsing around - and maybe he made some of that apparent in those threads.

B. I am not rude at all, and I am MOST DEFINITELY am not showing support for Prok.

Are the others in this thread opposed to these actions showing support for Prok? I think not. I am showing support for my own principles, just as they are.

I've always enjoyed the fact that those forums weren't strong-handed. (And the shark element has never put me off at all, whoever said that, because you can talk back to people there and defend yourself.)

I would be opposed to any forum giving someone an avatar they didn't want, and I understand this was only so much horsing around, but it is wrong, nonetheless, and it was gone about the wrong way.

Again, I am living by my own principles here, and I wouldn't care if it were you, or anyone, that this had happened to - I would be doing the exact same thing.

C. I removed my avatar. Are they going to ban me? Probably Kendra will present all those default avatars she's offered, and a person can choose one or make their own, or have a (non-offensive) avatar selected for them, and all this will be over.

I wouldn't be against that. Let it be very clear, though, that I am against what happened, and would be against it happening again.

Besides, I already have an avatar now, and it was the default one supplied for us all: "No avatar selected."

Actually, it didn't make me make choices about anything. Note: no picture, no signature.

So, as I said. Its a personal choice. I dont want to make that decision. I dont want to have that symbol replace what my name means. And I dont want someone else deciding for me what that symbol is. If you cant take the time to read my name, then you can't be very interested in what I have to say.

If its so "shruggable" then it shouldn't matter to you that I dont.

Bottom line .. its not worth arguing over ... just like I dont shop in stores whose practices I dont care for, I dont need to post in forums whose rules are distasteful.

End of story ... shrug all you like.

Well, just one little PS ... I've muted people on these forums whose pictures I found offensive ... they chose to express their personality in a way that I found intolerable .. so I fixed it so I didn't have to look at them. Period.

Nice that you are forcing others to make the same choise in your forums.

I come close to agreeing with you on this, Coco.

Prok was told get an avatar --or one will be selected for you. I'd have given Prok his usual "Raven" icon.
