2nd Citizen owner forces forum member to take avatar chosen by other members

Rather new to the game and forums but as for the topic of this thread. If the person was asked to pick an avatar they should have picked an avatar. Of course if it were that big of a deal to the forum owners they should have setup the forum to either use a default avatar or force the choice at account creation.

Apparently quite a few people care judging by the number of responses to this thread, yours included. It isn't a *rule* yet. It was a running joke that the owner is now considering turning into a rule after his favorites decided to make a thread to select a *fucktard* avatar for one of their *equals*.

Doing nothing wrong except breaking his own claimed principle of "freedom" over there. Breaking ones own principles and the site owner becoming one of the mob is pretty lame. Especially if he expects his site to be taken seriously. Hiding behind an alt account and encouraging and indeed participating in threads which belittle and attack certain posters when one is the site owner is also lame. It speaks volumes about the maturity level there and it is then no surprise that scat humor specialist Mulch is his right hand man.

Well, I went to secondcitizen with all hopes of it being a reasonable replacement for the forums. It is, in a way. Its all the bits I didn't like here all wrapped up in a nice neat little package. The tone goes a bit beyond what I find acceptable so I'm going to take my burning ears elsewhere. My choice to make. YMMV and I don't begrudge anyone else the choices they make.

As I said, we are still fairly new and setting ourselves up - but with the announcement of the forum closing we are doing all we can to get things set up and ready to give people a viable alternative to the 'official forums'.

There was a technical issue earlier today but I'm told that has now been fixed - and certainly everything seems ok from my end. Everyone gets a little downtime, correct?

The 'two step sign up' is quite common, and is partly for your own protection - there is a system to prevent people making multiple accounts and trolling, then coming back again and again when they've been banned. It helps maintain integrity and quality.

We do plan on more widely announcing ourselves and hopefully recruiting more staff in the near future. It's the subject of internal discussions right now.

Lewis, I think people knowing which forum you chose to use when this one closes pretty much guarentee's you won't be seeing anyone from here posting there.

Moderating? Whole blocks of people? Where else would Lewis choose to take up residence on a new forum.

It was slow for several days and it is still very slow, albeit faster than it was earlier today.
I'm on a lot of forums and I've never ran across a site where "sign up" requires an address and credit card number, and the free signup is not available until you go through two menus. Sorry, not buying that. People are not going to bother.
I generally try to stay away from sites that
1. Overmoderate
2. Are slow
3. Have very few posts

As I said before, the billing details are purely for the Stratics Plus service, an optional set of additional posting options (such as multiple avatars and signatures) which are not required if you just want a regular psoting experience.

How can you tell Stratics overmoderates when you haven't posted there yet? Don't go on others experience, for example I once heard that the friend of the neighbour of the milkman of the sister of the guy who runs SC .... you get my point?

Personally I think it's foolish to discard an alternative simply because of what other people have said - I'd rather find out for myself.

So far this claim has not been proven by the accuser, therefore I wouldn't let it influence your decision. Remember that the Sims Online boards - which many came from - had extra rules because they were the official TSO forums, and added by EA - but these only bought it in line with the previous EA run forums so it's not like it's anything new or unusual. By following the rules (which really aren't any different from here, just applied fairly) then you won't fall foul of the moderators. There's a novel concept! I've been with Stratics for nearly 3 years, so it's not like I've just picked it out of the air - it's "home".



Of course I enjoy working there, otherwise why would I be doing it? It's an honour and a privilege to continue helping new players, in the same way that I successfully did in TSO for nearly three years.

Yea i posted a couple times on there. wasnt to my liking. I was welcomed ok but from reading the forums i can see that if i have a opinion i might aswell talk to my self...

Lewis, I'll stop by once in a while to see how it's going there, but it's not going to be a normal hangout for me.

But if people do that on every forum... none would ever get any traffic! Why not at least post in the 'introduction thread'? Remember activity breeds activity.

I'm quite sure that there will be a lot of 'forum shopping' over the next month or so whilst people figure out what their alternatives are. Then people will tend to congregate around the best ones, and others will just disappear.

Currently i post more at SC, than anywhere else, however, I still read the others, and if traffic picks up at either of them, ill post. I can see myself active on all 3.

OK, I think that I will go over there, when I get the time, and start some threads that are a little more controversial and meaty than the threads I saw there last time I looked.

That will give us something to chew on and perhaps spice those boards up. I was pretty careful on them to begin with, but they've had enough time now to settle in, and it's probably time for something a little more substantial.

Again, getting an avatar was not a rule at SC, and still isn't, at the time of this writing.

I've personally never advocated the particular avatar assigned to you, I would have just assigned your usual "raven".

Stratics doesn't, although it gives the facility to add one if you do.

Isn't poster names sufficient? Or do people just skim read and discard posts from people they don't like? Personally I read everything if the thread interests me.
