It is their turn to be jealous. Of course, I shall confer upon you the standard honorarium for those inducted into the Order of the Golden siegeBot. However, you shall be the first to be awarded this Degree, which I shall also deliver, framed, unto your second person in short order. ![]() Enabran, I was honored enough by your words. I am quite blown away by the diploma itself. Thank you so much! I believe it will be placed, on my own Wall of Pride, right next to that Trifecta Neg-Rate Certificate that Prokofy issued to me after I blasted him with my watermelon launcher as Aimee had coerced me into doing. Er, I mean: ... after I blasted him with my watermelon launcher, full stop. |

Well. Yes and no, is my Suddenly-Lurking-No-More take on this. I was a bit surprised by how LF went off, too. (I know his manners and methods only from that first RAC meeting a while back, where he seemed the epitome of patience and tact --- in spite of having to deal with some continual, uh, Jive-Ass Bullshit from several ppl.) And, in fact, what is pretty self-evident terminology to Lordfly ("SL client," "webcode," etc.), is nomenclature that I understand only slightly --- like, an angstrom unit? --- deeper than Coco. So I kinda sorta empathize with said Coco. You know? On the other hand, I, because I'm aware of --- and not overly embarrassed by --- my ignorance, I don't go jabbering on about shit I don't understand, in ways that are sometimes dunning and often unhelpful and, ultimately, based on little other than that ignorance. And Coco, you may have observed over the past few months, might be considered to do that with, well, everything, eh? So I can see where someone would be predisposed to apoplexy when conversing with her --- and, even more likely than that, for someone to indulge in the sort of 1337geekish disdain that Lordfly was, surprisingly, indulging in. Now, Coco's credentials, as she's brandished them, if based in truth, are another thing entirely. They are a thing, in fact, if true, that scares the fuck out of me. Not the credentials themselves, but --- as Enabran can understand --- the idea that someone with those credentials presents as Coco presents in these forums. Me, I barely graduated from highschool --- with a D average, I think it was --- and haven't been to another house of education since then. And I sometimes look upon my friends' formal educations --- because most of my friends, and certainly my sweet Euterpe, are chockful of academic acheivements ---with a twinge of jealousy. But when I hear of Coco's credentials ... and I consider what I've read of her posts ... Oy. Oy. I mean, Coco, you're a very sweet person, certainly --- even though you may not have any certificates on your Wall of Pride denoting that in particular. And you're as worthy an addition to SL and to these forums as, perhaps, any of all of us are. And I'm glad you're here with us. ![]() Y'know? But --- oy, girl. Just ... oy. Yeah, come to think of it, I had nothing but praise for Lordfly for his whole leading of the RAC thing, and defended him plenty when people started bitching about him not being able to be at a meeting or something, as if the whole thing depended on him alone. I thank you for your kind words. And I, personally, don't think a person's spelling or wording of things is anywhere near as important than the message they have to convey, and I also don't worry about anybody's typos anywhere. I think I have said that before. My own friends and family irl are representative of all levels of interests, skills, backgrounds, and education. So I regret if I come off as elitist in any way in defending myself here against accusations of being unworthy of giving my opinions, being stupid, not being able to form a sentence, etc. I hate elitist. Remember: Most of this view of what I say stems from one thing and one thing only, and has from the beginning, and we. all. know. exactly. what that was. If it hadn't been for that, I can assure you NONE of this would have come down the way it has. Moving on. You may view it as jabbering on about shit, dunning and unhelpful and all that, but let me explain a bit. I don't get involved in anything new without asking a LOT of questions. Pointed ones, sometimes, and always flavored with and coming from my own impressions and opinions (which more often than not, reflect those of the average person). I am just not used to being told to shut up and go away just because, to quote Enabran, who said, when I explained my MB typo, "No, it's because you don't know what you are talking about." That sort of thing is a horrible way to treat anyone. Most people would just slink away, I guess. Similarly, when people ask me questions - other players, children, I don't care who - I don't talk down to them about it, use my knowledge (which is considerable) as a bludgeon, or sequester my knowledge. Now sometimes a person just doesn't feel like explaining stuff, and that's fine - I often don't. But to become impatient with another's quest to learn and/or with the opinions they express during the conversation - you are better off just to not be in the conversation, and let someone with more patience handle it, I think. Add to all that the fact that I've spent my adult life asking people questions about subjects I have no knowledge of. And not easy questions, either. Questions that generally reflect what is on the reader's mind, whether or not that individual wants to hear such questions. I'm good at it because I really do want to KNOW about what I'm interviewing about. I've had doctors spend hours in interviews with me, patiently explaining the parts I don't understand, and then answering the questions I have that stem from those parts. DOCTORS! And I do represent the regular, average person, who doesn't know anything about that area of expertise. Consequently, I'm not the least ashamed to not know the meaning of anything. It's my job to find out things I don't already know, and usually from the ground up. And to know it WELL. No easy, stock answers, and then yeah, ok, I've done my job and I can go away now. Being ashamed to ask the questions, to admit your ignorance in an area, prevents you from ever learning. I am never ashamed, and NO one should ever be ashamed, or made to feel ashamed. Having said all that, yes, I realize it does get annoying to deal with someone like me who was born with an overweening curiosity. It is annoying to deal with someone who keeps on and keeps on over every last little detail; I realize that. But you may notice I don't ask many personal questions, unless a person seems open to it. Often people know quite a bit more about my friends than I do, because I'm super careful not to get annoying with that. But technical stuff - geez! Playing the game - we ALL do that. We are ALL experts on that. I figure for every "stupid" question I ask, 25 more people have the same question, but are too embarrassed to ask it. IRL, for every "stupid" question I ask, some ten million people or so are wanting the answer. And you know what? After all that where I tried to find out the future of textures, and people explained that we had just been spoiled, and though there were bugs that would be fixed, this was essentially just gonna be the way it was, and so on, I concluded that, well, this was just gonna be the way it was. Today, though, I decided my confusion was probably largely due to the fact that the answer really is, THEY JUST DON'T KNOW. Because just as people are embarassed to ask stupid questions, people are also disinclined to ever just say, "Well, I really don't know." I've learned to recognize that kind of answer, too, when that is the answer it comes down to. (But it ain't easy to get to it.) Now, I have reached my conclusion on the texture question, and the answer is - nobody really knows; the Lindens are trying; and hopefully it won't be a matter of us having to get better textures, scripts, etc. But - nobody really knows at this point. That's the bottom line. Anyone who is infuriated, frustrated, or totally unable to deal with ignorance (i.e., lack of knowledge about a field) shouldn't be even trying to turn that ignorance into knowledge, imo. They should let someone else do it. coco _____________________

But, never one to neglect my responsibilities of recognition, there is the Degree. I'm not sure when, if ever, I shall have the pleasure of awarding another, but I am well-satisfied to have it now at my disposal. You have also been gifted a siegeBot! Enjoy it well! _____________________

I've forgotten if I did. You have. Too many times for me to bother wading through via the search tool. Way too many possible results to narrow down. _____________________
