Cool flowers, Zen! Love the detailed centers. :)

I'm having a great time making flowers plants and other organic shapes with sculpties. So nice to be able to make new shapes - and then paint right on the surface of the object. :D

Here are some Aloe plants I have made. This one is scripted to 'grow' through a cycle of 9 stages, from young plant to bloom. There are 9 versions of the plant that get replaced for each stage of growth. Eventually I'd like to make the individual prims grow and animate to build the larger plants, instead.

Thanks, Zen. :)

Those shots were taken on a sim that is not yet open, but I have some of the Aloe growing on my parcel in Caledon.

I have some of the sped up a bit so that they change stages quickly, to make it easier to see the changes.

^^ is there something about those trees in the background there that you could tellus??hmm?
Is it just me or are those, um, not your normal trees?

Here are a couple of snapshots of those Acacia trees that you can see in the other pictures. There are about 6 sculpt maps for all the different branches, and two textures. Easy to re-assembled the limbs into a new variation of the tree, too.

That second shot was gorgeous!

Thanks Zen and Broken. :)

I'm having fun meeting people who are using sculpties - everyone is doing something different and cool! I am planning a sort of sculpted prim show and tell event where we can gather to share ideas and see what people are working one.

Keep the pics coming everyone!

I need of help
07-03-2007 16:14
I post on another forum, but I seen some excellent work here and may find the answer or solution to my problems.

I model to make the other modelers life easier. I've done furniture, patio stuff, Hearts etc.
But for awhile I have been doing things like sphere to cube, one prim doorways and boat hauls.

Two problems I'm running into is with the boat hull I had a problem, I couldn't get near it. But someone advised me to put sit scripts in, which I did and resolved that problem. But now I still have problems. I want the modeler to be able to allow the avatar to walk freely inside the hull and how can I maintain the exact shape I created from wings uploaded to SL. see picture

The doorway has got me stumped. It's suppose to let builder relax on prim counts by placing a one prim wall with a doorway. Windows are no problem, but the doorway, I can't walk through. Any suggestion or if you like meet me in world and maybe join this project.

Thanks
Justin

The physics engine in SL sees sculpties as a sphere. To get avatars to collide with them realistically your best bet is to make them phantom and then use transparent normal prims as collision objects.

finally completed - my Queen Anne furniture parlour ensemble. Pic taken in my shop over in Caledon on Sea. Sculpties workflow was a combination of UVMapper Professional, Silo, Zbrush, Carrara Pro.

Here's a horse that's partly made of sculpties. I'll be replacing his head and neck with sculpties soon; I originally made the model before sculpties were available, so I've been changing things out over time.

The first thing I changed out were the legs. Each leg is one sculpty, made in Maya with NURBS. I'm an old hand at texturing so I just made the textures in Photoshop and applied in SL.

The neat thing about this is that the single prim legs have made the gait animations work very well. I made a new prim for each leg's new position, like the raised front leg you see in the pic below, so there isn't much prim-explosion. The feathered fetlocks are independent of the leg prim due to the need to have them flexy, as are the hooves because I wanted them to have the shiny light effect.

It moves very, very well.

Fiona, your horse is so beautiful and realistic. I am really impressed. Thank you for sharing photo of it! How many total prims including sculpted prims did the horse take?

I can't get on SL right now (I'm at work :D ) but I recall I got the model down to something like 75 prims with just changing the legs. Once I get the rest changed, I imagine it may be more like 50, maybe less.

I have a riding attachment version of him right now that just has a lot of alpha switching for animation, so with all the attached legs, he's something like 130.

Filing Cabinet
07-09-2007 11:46
Just the hanging files inside each drawer are a sculptie. They were created in Blender and an ambient occlusion map rendered there too. I added a few box meshes around the sculptie before the ao render to get the shadows to look as they would when the files were in the cabinet. You can't see it too well here but the files texture gets darker towards the back. The rest of the texture was created in the gimp and the ao applied as an overlay layer there.

I made sculptie statue.

http://yabusaka.slmame.com/e15345.html

Made with 25 prims.
I don't own land to put up whole statue but you can see part of it at
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Solheimer/208/162/410

I'll make hair and some other goods to decorate the statue later...

Excellent furniture Hypatia! Did you mix any regular prims with it?

And the horse is wonderful Fiona!

Sheesh... This is a hostile community. I had originally posted an announcement here about a free product and the opening of a sculptie tutorial for Maya users. But has been called "spam" by too many people. So I have deleted it. Sorry guys! I just wanted to reach out to the right people, and a forum about sculpties seemed like the right place. I guess I don't know all the rules of this digital era yet!

beg to differ on the first decent cap :P. people should avoid claiming first decent anything. You're very rarely the first and it frequently ticks people off (namely me).

Thank you!

I was concerned when I first heard that sculpties were coming out for several reasons, one of which was that I was going to have to remake large parts of the horse to 'keep up' and I didn't know how that was going to turn out.

It's a relief to me that it turned out better than before. I'm sold on sculpties now, though I still think we need a built in SL way to work on them so that people don't have to own Maya the way I do.

Everyone's sculpties here are so very nice. People keep getting more and more creative. I only wish that SL's renderer could produce better lighting to show them off!

This thread has a history. Over two months of positive posts, free of spamming, flaming and trolling. (That has to be some kind of record). This is show us your sculpties, not advertise your sculptie related products and services. THIS is a sculptie community right here. I for one do not wish to be a marketing target.

I hope my post didn't come across as an ad. The only pic I had to show was the one I used for a poster elsewhere, and I was just too beat from hours of effort in RL and in SL to spend time taking new shots. I haven't even made an ad post in the 'advertise your products' section because I can't get up the energy to talk about the product in lots of detail at the moment.

Apologies to all if it came across the wrong way.
