Great...wow. Man I need to start learning sculptie import...I tend to use high-detail, and this will save me a lot on prim-budget.

Man! There is absolutely terrific scupltie stuff here! Really impressive to see everyone pushing this format to its limit. Very inspiring to say the least.
I hadn't had the courage to show any of mine, as I don't think I really understand what I'm doing yet. Although I'm ok with the results, so much has depended on the texturing, or at least for me it has. I kept it simple and made some simple furniture...mostly chairs...argh. But I thought I would like to share my humble work anyway.
Thanks to everyone in the forum for sharing such exceptional work.

Yes, they are snapshots from SL. The simpler Club Chairs are 7 prims, and that includes the prim for the shadow map. The more detailed of course more prims, but I don't think I have done anything that exceeds 16 total....your making me think! lol

As I can see, do you work with textures, shadows and ambient gloss. This is the mystery of a realistic presentation. Really good work.

I create the sculptie work in 3ds max. The textures start out in Photoshop, then I use the material editor to map, scale and orient them. I then bake the textures in max. Normally that is where is stops, but I have taken the baked textures back into photoshop for some refinements, but I don't need to do that very often.

I made this is Rokuro then wrapped it around a sculptie prim. It's 1 prim, without the fountain mechanism.

Your UV mapping skills on this is incredible. Very even and no sign of pinched textures. I take it that these are right and left foot scupties...not the generic "one shape fits all". I have been working on one also...boot style, but I still can't achieve the smoothness of the shape when I scale the sculptie down. This is very good.

Thanks Fast :) Yes, they're left and right, but they're the same shape simply mirrored, then using two versions of the same texture. The text is backwards on the mirrored foot so that it still looks correct. The trick to getting even texturing is to keep the distribution of polygons as even as possible. On a shape like that it's only partially possible. The polys near the tip of the foot are about twice the size as those at the heel, but it's even enough that the difference in texture sharpness isn't obvious unless you look really close. You can kinda tell by the thickness of the stitching near the toe compared to near the ankle. The stitch line is actually thinner on the texture near the toe, but it looks twice as thick. :p

OK.. I know I'm not so great at sculpties yet, and I haven't been doing them long (This method only since I learned from DanielFox I think yesterday....) But I'm really proud of these.

The attached image has my house in it, but..ignore that lol

The mountains were all made by me, handpainted heightmaps turned into sculpties. They are currently textured with just the library heavy moss rock texture, because honestly.. I like how it looks. I'll be making textures for mountains once I get a bit better with photoshop.

So.. the image shows 3 sculpties, the first is the largest, on a 50x50x50 sculpty, the other two are both 40x40x40 (All of this contained within my own land, aside from the 100x100x.01 'ground' which only projectsinto neighbouring property where it goes underground)

They'll be up for a few days at least and you can come see them if you want, theres an SLurl below.

I am super proud of them, even though I'm fully aware they aren't amazing... its fun ^^

I'll edit this post when the final version is done, instead of posting again.

I got tired of the 30+prim snowmen, so I decided to use sculpties for a lowprim (Not quality) version.

The snowman in the picture is nine prims:
1 for head and body (sculpted)
1 for hat (Sculpted)
1 for nose (Sculpted)
3 for mouth (3 cut toruses)
2 for buttons (2 cut toruses)
1 for eyes (1 cut torus)

My aim is to reduce the number even more while actually raising the quality.
I'm working right now on getting the mouth as one sculpted prim, as well as buttons and eyes (Once I get one I'll know the method, and will be able to do the others).
I'm also working on a sculpted scarf. Once I get everything done as sculpties, I'll be working to make the whole thing one or two sculpts. I've got a head done if I can figure out texturing, so all in all it shouldn't be hard once I learn the texturing. At present the one in the shot is done with freebie textures.

Many, many thanks to the maker of Sculptypaint! I downloaded it this weekend, and was rapidly able to make a set of 12-tread sculpty stairs and custom-texture them so the tops of the stair treads and the front faces of the treads have different textures. This allowed me to take a prim staircase that had about 24 steps and which was using 22 prims, and reduce it to 11 prims, by using two sculptys and removing just two posts supporting the handrails. (And on some interior staircases, where I didn't need handrails, I was able to drop it to three prims!)



The stairs on the right are the original 22-prim staircase unit. The one on the left uses two sculptys, and weighs in at a mere 11 prims.



This shows the sculpty prim that I made and textured for this project.

I can probably save even more prims by using a sculpty for the two handrails, but this will already save me a ton of prims!

Working on a sculpty for a wall, foundation and tile top cap, in hopes of replacing 3 prims per 10M section of wall with one sculpty. Extruded with Tokoroten, custom texture by myself.

Here is the wall I am making. The 3-prim per 10M section of wall it is to replace is behind it.
