I go to clubs fairly often, and I'm often confused/guilt-stricken over what is considered a fair tip to a dancer, host or DJ. I know the basic answer is "what you think they're worth", but does anyone have any suggestions ? Sometimes I'm broke (sorry), but I try to make up for it later on when I return to the club.
Thanks for serious answers.

I only tip if they are entertaining me!
I have been to and worked at many clubs where the employees did nothing. I don't tip thoes people.
Just tip what you can.

A "I appreciate your help" tip is about $25L. A "you blew my socks off!" tip is about 100L to 500L. The "I'm Daddy WarBucks" tip is $1K to $5K.

I don't go to clubs too much anymore Steve, but I always tried to tip the dancers at least $50L. Hosts and DJ's got $100L. These figures represent club employees that were making an effort - those that were not got nothing. Folks that went out of their way to ensure patrons like me were having a good time got considerably more ($500L is the biggest tip I remember handing out).

as a regular "dj" in sl, i really don't expect everyone to tip, at all.
some nights i do fairly well, some times i take in very little. but that's not why i dj. i spin because i like music. and i really enjoy exposing people to new stuff they may have never been exposed to, before.
i'm much more pleased by by feedback and a crowd's reaction. (not that money isn't nice, mind you.)
i often will tip another dj if i'm enjoying what i hear, if i have some extra fundage on me.
i typically never tip dancers and such, though. maybe that's mean of me but i don't find much interest in someone standing there running some random dance animations (often while they are distracted doing something else, while doing so)
in short, tip whatever you feel the experience is worth to you. if a person get's angry or annoyed because they feel you aren't giving them enough, they're really missing the whole point of what being dj / entertainer is about.

i'll usually tip 100 to the DJ and 50 to the house if they're good.
I feel weird if i get anything over 100 when i perform.

Tipping can be a lot harder in SL than in RL.. In RL, you're probably paying out RL$ which makes it easier to figure out 10% or 20% or whatever..
IMO, tipping is really up to the individual and you sorta have to figure out what you, you personally, would consider 'pocket change' then go from there.

I spend a lot of time at music venues... I'd say 100L for the performer or DJ and possibly same for venue if it's good and has good hosts would be a good start. Having said that ..... any contribution will be appreciated, none of these people are making money out of it. You could also choose to start with a small sum and add more if you're having a good time.

DON'T FORGET YOUR HOSTS!!!!
Whatever you tip your DJ I think you should equally tip the host. People have no idea the hours I put into each event. For every two hour event I work in SL I work a minimum of two hours offline putting together. Fortunately I do it for fun, but it is nice to be appreciated.
Personally I don't ever feel comfortable tipping less than L$50. I'm never hurt or offended if someone tips me less, though. I just assume they tip what they can.

Good point Bradley! Some venues are worth visiting just for their hosts!

When I go to a club with a DJ I generally don't worry too much about tipping........unless the DJ accepts and plays a request I might have made. That will get him/her from 50 to 100 lindens from me. I figure they went out of their way to do something I asked them to do..........so they deserve my gratitude in lindens. And, if I make a request for a song they may not have in their library and find a way to get it for me (even if it's the next time) I will tip more...........say 200 lindens. To me that is going way beyond what I expected and even if it's a little thing like a song (or music piece) I just had the yen for at the moment it shows me that the DJ is truly interested in satisfying me. I like that. On dancers. I've been a dancer (hehehe..........still do it on occassion) but I never expected tips. I certainly accepted them gratiously but I never danced for profit.....it's all about some deep dark exhitionist thing with me. I've danced at clubs where the owners had minimums..........150 for the top and/or 300 for total nude. They all were clubs taking a percentage of our tips. I always abided by those rules if they were in place..............but, at the same time,I always felt strange telling the person tipping that it would cost them another 50 or 100 lindens to do anything. I was/am enjoying the little game so "demanding" a specified amount just did not feel right at all. I actually think a lot of "dancers" feel the same way as I...........so my advise is tip what you want and/or can afford. The chat is much more fun anyway. I chat for free.

hmm well, back in my club going days, if I stayed more than a few minutes I never tipped less than L$250 - after all, it's just almost a dollar (50p in Her Britannic Majesty's currency) and if I felt I was being treated as an individual, rather than a "punter", I'd go quite a bit more.
@ Steve - I can NOT believe you go to clubs with just a pocketful of change!! LOL! or is it a case of prim rich and Linden $ poor? (or "all fur coat and no knickers" as we used to say oop north in times which are best forgotten!) Inc

dj's between L$250 and L$500. depending of course, how good he/she is. but i always tip a dj SOMETHING. L$250 mininum. after all, he/she IS doing some work here.
dancers and hosts between L$100 and L$250. depending on how talkative and friendly they are.
i have been to clubs where there are dancers ... but i could SWEAR they are "away" .. not a peep out of them. in that case, they get stiffed. i mean, why bother if they aren't bothering?

Host are working and deserve it, the club owner works at it and deserves it, as does the DJ, but to my way of thinking, dancers are just there to beg most of the time. The only time dancers get anything from me is when I win an event - then I share the winnings out. I was in a new place a few days ago. There was a girl and me, who were dancing, and a couple of staff, including the host. We'd only been there 5 minutes when the usual "Don't forget to tip the staff. They work hard for you." came out. I wasn't impressed at all - well I was, but not in the way that they would have liked.

I have a habit of tiping DJ's 100-200 L a few times if theya re doing good. Hosts... well to be honest most of the clubs I go to there aren't hosts so much as the club owner and the regulars so I don't know. And for dances they get nothing unless that actualy rp and are friendly. Wihtout those two things you aren't geting anything or may even get 2 l tips if you are a pole zombie. Cause pole zombies are just killing my fps for no good reason and taking up space a real live person could.

From: Sindy Tsure You might want to look at other places then. Some dancers are very, very good at what they do and work very hard for their tips. As an ex (hell.................sometimes current) dancer I can vouch for some of this. I've seen dancers work their butts off for 100 lindens and be so thankful for it. Personally, I guess I never worked that hard.........my motive for being there was not the lindens. I was (am, when I dance) there for the fun of it........just like the "patrons". Sometimes the "mood" of the crowd doesn't make it easy to chat it up but I always try. I seldom cyber (even when encouraged) but love talking and acting sexily silly. Most people who freguent the clubs I have worked at like that...........I'm pretty popular. But, do I make a lot of lindens? No. Do I have a lot of fun? Yes...........most of the time. And I've never been one of those "zombies" if I'm not there I'm logged). I am always at my keyboard with my radar on trying to make everyone who comes in welcome. I want them to talk.............not only to me but to everyone in chatting distance. Tipping me (which I really think I'm not alone here) is not what I'm after. Tip if you have fun......don't if you don't. I can work my ass off for hours for less than a camping chair will pay. I do it anyway. Not completely for the patrons benefit either..........it's fun to chat with people. Act silly, be riske in talk and actions. It;s all about intertainment. If I'm intertaining, give me a million lindens or zero lindens........just let me know if you enjoy it. Talking to me and responding to me is so much more important to me than a tip. So, as far as I'm concerned, tip what you want and how much you want and feel no guilt what so ever. By the same token, tip a ton........remember, with me, you didn't get any privelages for some huge tip. I think most "seasoned" dancers are just like me.

Its one thing to not tip the dancers because you didnt look at them/ socialize with them.
Its another thing to say they don't work at all.
How hard should they work a couple hundred Lindens over the course of an entire night?
You all probably don't tip your server at restaurants or bars either.

Steve The most common I've seen on tipjars or paid to me were 20 L$ and 50 L$, with higher if a person only tips once. The most I've seen was 450, paid to me.. and yeah.. basically other than that, whatever you feel like. I always tip in 100 L$ increments, up to about 500 L$ Tipping the club itself I usually tip either 500, 1000, or 2000 L$, with my favce club getting 2000 L$ a week from me.

What world so you live in? As for the comment about being "AWAY" If the host or manger, Gen Manger etc are doing more tehn one position and attenting to other job functions they might apear "AWAY" but really atleast in well run clubs mangers have more then one job.

I think the away bit was about Dancers.. since managers and whatnot do stuff anyway, dancers only really do stuff if they're there, and only matters to you if they're there. Managers help keep the place running and such. Dancers just.. dance.

Think the social dancers at most clubs would be very glad to get $20 from everyone at the club for an event.
Djs maybe a bit more, it adds up.
If its a strip club of course, the dancers should get more than a social club, since they ARE the attraction.
Concentrating on only tipping the people who impressed you makes reasonable sense.
Claiming they didn't work just because YOU didn't notice it is nonsense.
Really don't tip a lot if you don't have a lot of money,
tip what you find reasonable based on your SLincome SLexpenses and Cash out to USD needs.
