From: Shinyukie Takakura If you feel that you are doing something that is illegal in your country, by all means do what you think is necessary to protect yourself...right up to not doing it. Do not, however, expect me to feel constrained to feel or act the same way. That's fine - if I am in such a country, I can avoid going to adult places in Second Life. Unfortunately - as I've mentioned elsewhere - I can't stop you teleporting next to me with a friend, then quickly undressing your AVs, rezzing two poseballs and jumping on them. Dell, or IBM, or similar can't currently stop someone putting on a childlike girl avatar and soliciting on the steps of their commercial builds. Yes, all these activities are technically forbidden in SL, but the person doing them can only be ejected or banned once the damage is already done.

From: Qie Niangao Serves me right for forgetting that this is an Irony Free Zone. I meant the "Oh, gee..." preface to be a hint, but satire can be hard to detect in a posting, I realize. For what it's worth, I didn't intend to accuse "the German"s of anything in my response. Rather, I was trying to make a kind of reductio ad absurdum argument about the inherent risks of banning fictional content. I'm genuinely sorry if it was taken as derogatory toward Germans or any other group. Whoops, sorry...I guess we do need a satire emoticon or something....

I really fail to see the significance of this post. Someone can strip and have sex in your RL front yard too. Even with someone underaged IRL. And youd have to call the cops to do anything about it.

If you live in a country that would jail you for what someone else jumps out and does..either in a virtual world or the real world, possibly you might consider working towards installing a new system? No offense, and I have no idea what country you live in..but that kind of insanity needs removal by whatever means necessary. Sorry if this gets you in trouble for listening to someone advocating the overthrow of your government..but there you go...you can't control what other people are going to say or do can you?...^_^

From: Latonia Lambert I want to ask a question I asked on another thread - why does an adult male want to have sex with a supposedly female child av of, say, age 6, if they don't have paedophile tendencies?
I guess LL will be trawling through all the chat and IMs they record in world and will deal with those who they deem unacceptable in due course. I'd have then ask you a question? What if the other AV appeared to be 18-20, 16-18, 14-16, 10-14? And does the younger have to be female? What about a pair of 14-16yo AV's together? Agree with your statement but where is the line what is clearly childsex, Sexual Ageplay and what is not? Trouble is people are calling for a ban of all ageplay, which in theory means all AV's engaging in any sort of roleplay, sexual or not must be similar age and appear to be over 18yo.

Or completely human, even: Presumably furry avatars come of age far earlier because sex between 18 year-old cats, for example, just can't be that much fun. Extra credit: Calculate how cat-like an avatar must appear to be legal at age 6.

One more time for the slow learners
06-03-2007 15:35
From: Broccoli Curry It's not "going to it" that's the problem... you're right, that can easily be avoided if the landowner is responsible enough to label their plot appropriately - but its when "it" comes to you. One more time for the slow learners:- 'When "it" comes to you' is already a TOS violation - (1) assuming that you are not in a Mature plot and "It" is something non-PG or (2) you are in a Mature plot but "it" is pestering you. (3) No rule changes are needed. If you are upset that "it" is coming to you, AR "it" and pressure LL to act on their existing Community Standards. How can you outlaw something that is already outlawed? Serious question! How would your national government react I wonder if you asked them to make crime illegal? That is basically the kind of thing that you want LL to do. "It": belch! SL: "Belching is a TOS violation" "It": belch! belch! New Clean SL: "Belching is *really* a TOS violation" "It": belch! belch! belch! Mission accomplished! All belching has been removed from New Clean SL. That's how it works?

Sorry if this gets you in trouble for listening to someone advocating the overthrow of your government..but there you go...you can't control what other people are going to say or do can you?...^_^ The problem is not so much being thrown in jail, as being investigated. Would you like to have the police come over to your house and arrest you for downloading child porn, even if you would eventually be found innocent? Or, in an alternate way of staying it: you have a neighbour who has been arrested for child porn, but was found innocent. Do you let them babysit? Do you think that anyone who genuinely is downloading child porn doesn't, in court, claim that they did it by mistake - even if they didn't? The police have to work out ways around this kind of thing or they'll never jail anyone. In fact, the whole business about "computer-generated child porn" wasn't actually put into law because they thought it would "tempt" people into taking real action - it was to do with the fact that every genuine arrested paedophile was saying "that's Photoshopped, that's not a real child so it's not illegal" about every single picture used as evidence against them. The "downloading" angle is the key difference. IRL, if someone sexually attacks a child outside your house and you call the police, they don't charge you with viewing child pornography because you looked at it.

From: Nina Stepford or even worse, homeland security. i know many ppl find it a paranoid train of thought, but verification + transaction history + asset server + climate of a witch hunt+ grid shepard = scary stuff. i think linden would have no problem handing asset server data over to the us government (i doubt theyd even need a court order). while grid shepard itself may be not be the big threat, it is proof that a third party can collate endless inworld data about you. im sure the us/chinese/any government could put one together (they probably have already. its very orwellian and it makes me very uneasy. yeah its probably not normal thinking to most, but id really hate to find out i was right about this on my next arrival to LAX. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELONThe age of privacy has been over for a LONG time... It still amazes me how many people think the PATRIOT act is anything new

From: reed Tweak what ever happend to your world your imagination Good point... Then again, seeing as how I'm having incredible difficulty finding sims that have a "city" theme, and instead finding 50 poorly built gorean sims and sex dungeons in the search results, I'd say that the imagination of most landowners in SL is pretty weak. Sorry to offend you guys, but will you all stop thinking with your sex organs for just one moment? C'mon people, is age play really the best "world" you can make for yourselves, and the peak of your imagination? I'm beginning to think that the entire human race really is trying to F*** itself....

you put world in quotation. But its not clear what you mean by world. Do you mean public areas or an individuals private property? There is a difference Im betting for some people ageplay or BDSM is a better "world" for them. Just becauseitdoesnt suit you doesnt mean you have the right to judge others

Do you think that anyone who genuinely is downloading child porn doesn't, in court, claim that they did it by mistake - even if they didn't? The "downloading" angle is the key difference. IRL, if someone sexually attacks a child outside your house and you call the police, they don't charge you with viewing child pornography because you looked at it. Point taken. I suppose that you can hope that your secret police are not in the habit of grabbing random computers to see if you may have visited some web site and walked past a cartoon doing something illegal under your laws....but I don't think I'd trust mine that far...so it would be unfair of me to suggest yours are any better..^_^. On the 'computer generated" portion of your response...it's an easy case of using a phrase like "photo-realistic" instead of "computer generated" if that was the case...I do not really suspect that seeing any pictures of SL Avi's would confuse anyone into thinking that they were real people. I do not believe that to be the case with these laws however..as picking up a pencil and drawing a quick doodle would get you the same punishment as I understand it...(correction welcomed) and under no circumstances can that act be considered harming anything...outside of maybe the pencil lead...

From: errUh Oh i have no idea what youre talking about Are you trolling? not accusing just really lost by your post It's interesting that someone would be bothered by a positive comment to their posting. Basically, what I took your post as was a comment about people continuing to post comments regarding the Daniel Linden blog entry, but that no one was really reading them. My comment meant that I realize that few read them, but it's an issue I feel strongly about, so would continue posting on the topic. I hope this cleared the matter up.
