Love your new logo Mox :)

~ ~ ~

Yeeaaaaa!!! Got all my items now listed on Onrez now too! I was trying to scan through the posts for those of you that have items there as I "thought" the URL had one's name in it and I haven't figured out where that is yet on the Onrez website.

EDIT: Errrr, nm...just found it. *blushes*

Definitely time for a nap. :p

I need to workon adding things to SLX. But i have to admit i hate doing that so I have no where near all my items on there, just a smattering. I really need to take the time to work on that at some point
I'm with you on this, E. I have approximately 1/3 of my items in SLX and OnRez. I'd have my complete stock in them, but it takes at least twice as long to get that done as it seems like it should. I think I'm a little OCD with the pictures. (To those who know me well: please stop laughing at the "a little" part of that comment.)

I've had a mild decline of instore sales and visitors since SL's recent bout of grid troubles began approximately 10 days ago. But during that time, my SLX and OnRez sales have increased.

My business has been successful, and in each of the three months, I've had substantially more sales than the previous month. I've been able to take a nice chunk of cash out each month, I've gone premium, and I've bought more land so my store can have more prims. Despite that, with the grid being so bad that SL tells people to "please refrain from making transactions" on a daily basis, it's quite irritating to be paying LL for classified ads. I don't mind SL having a bad couple of days every now and then -- most of the lost sales during that time will be made up after a few smooth days on the grid. But when it's every day for over a week, the lost revenue won't be made up, and SL should provide some refunds for the classified ads. (I know that's not going to happen, but they are missing an opportunity to gain tremendous customer loyalty by simply doing the right thing.)

I too seem to put off putting new stuff up on slex and onrez

not sure why, as it is not a difficult task, I just keep pushing it aside :(

I have had one actual sale in each of them- OnRez and SLExchange. I have had lots of "sales" on my Freebie- but maybe it's my keywords? I don't know- need to research that a bit. I hope that it is a question of folks going in world after seeing the stuff on line. I try to be diligent about listing all over and even made m self a check list at one point- but honestly it is hard to keep up with all of it at times.

I remember 18 months ago or so when they did just that.Search had been down and borked for a week when they gave everyone a free week. This was covered with a "" this is a once only and at our discretion"sort of comment but it was still fair.

My Penny worth!

Hi Guys,

You probably remmember me from such distasters As "Airline Thread" and "Running an air tours company". All resulted in failure even with helicopters because of poor crossings between sims, and many estate owners are still allowing ban lines and security orbs with no notice whatsover :) If and when Linden labs finds a way to tp a plane load of people to another continent, then i may reconsider one day!

So I been learning how to make jewelery for some time now, and although my items arent very sophisticated yet, to make them a higher price, i have sold some ;)

But i also sell other items, hence My name of Store "Michaelas Nick Nack Store" where i also sell adult stuff as well. you can probably guess what sells most days! lol

I have one small store in a busy club mall, thats just built on an upper floor, I grabbed it quick as didnt want to find all the best spots gone, But like a few people have said, it takes time, i also opened another store (which more prim allowance) at one of the new continents that opened last week, namely a NOR combat sim Continent. It is called Nocturnum, and is quite goth, so along with my usual stuff i have managed to include some gothy type bit and bobs, plus some goth jewelry im making.

Again its a brand new place, Im going to have to wait for traffic to build up, but luckily theres a brand new Top class Club opened oposite me, so im hoping this will boost sales.

Fortunetly I have been making signs for stores for some time, also boards for attractions etc etc. May start to advertize in my stores for making kewl signs.

Not much more to add, except dont let sim or club crash and have your items sent back to you as happened the other day to me and others, always set the items for sale to the group your in, other wise in the event of a mishap everything not to group will be sent back, a daunting prospect to go and put it all back again!!

I still see signs dull and not making an impact, because some vendors dont realize that u can light up the sign quite nicely, by just clicking full bright on the texture tab in edit.

I use photoshop and play around with many layers and types of styling, im hoping to put one of my signs in one of my shops to advertize sign making, so i see if theres any interest. i also use slex as my main shopping place, as a search for a hard to find item in world, fails to find the item. Also found many small commerce and bussiness parcels in slex "Real eastate". that would suit new businesses! Many of my jewlery items and textures comes from slex, and Im one that finds slex invaluable for items usefull for trading wether its a hippo vendor or some scripts or your first commercial building!

Hope this helps somewhat

mich xx

OK- here is an oddball question...

How do I figure out where I fall on Classifieds? Seems easy enough- search for something as if I were a customer and count pages right? Well- either my add completely sux and I am somewhere around page nine billion, in which case I might as well save myself the money- or I don't know how to look- can some one offer guidance please? I went to search and put in ballgown- after about ten pages I figured I must be doing something wrong :(.

Classifieds are ranked solely according to how much you spend. You can see how much others spent for their ads.

So when you get to page 10 and still don't see yours, look and see how much it cost to get on page 10. If it's more than you paid, then your ad will be on a later page. If it's less than you paid, then your ad should have appeared somewhere before that listing.

OK- so then- does that mean there is more than one place to look for the ad?

I was using just plain search- as a consumer, I have never - ever- gone out of my way to use Classifieds- I was working on the assumption that the results I get in the main Search - All, for example, was the product of Classifieds, as well as anything else that might contribute- like pick, for example. Are you saying there is a separate Classifieds section and if so- how does one affect the placing in Search All- that is really what concerns me.

I am aware that how much you pay determines Classified Placing- however, search terms determines if you even come up. I know I need to work my key words, hence trying to determine where I placed now.

Notices in FabFree?
09-08-2008 09:54
Ok, is this just me, a SL glitch, or something I'm not aware of in the FabFree group:

Just offered a 1L item via group and was going to do it as a notice. However, the new notice tab (or whatever it is called) was grayed out for me so I couldn't use it. I was wearing my group tag at the time.

I ended up just offering the item via group chat, but would like to know if anyone else had trouble using the FabFree group notices?

have you been able to send out notices before in that group?

if not then you need to be assigned the role to do so (I am still waiting to be assigned the role in that one, got it in free style real quick, but fab free is slooooow)

For the questions about classifieds...in my classes i teach to spend the least on classifieds as possible...with the new ALL search classifieds are really not used much. If you sell something like clothing, you have to pick key words that folks will be searching on in order to find your store whether it is in classifieds or all search or places, etc.

I recommend that you think like your customers. Few will ever search for your store name first. They will search for "red gown, heels, sandals, lingerie, lace, silks, camisole, tank, stockings, gold necklace" and words like that. In my store for instance, the key words are "statues, blankets, curtains, drapes, comforters, cuddle rugs, poses" things like that. People dont tend to search for "furniture" or "decor" because the catagory and results returned will just be too broad. So if you can think like your customers and use those key words they might sesarch on in your land descriptions, group descriptions, picks and classfieds, it will get you higher on the list in ALL search than paying any amount other than minimum in classifieds.

Personally i think maximizing search for clothing is the hardest in SL because there are sooo many folks selling clothing. But just think of what you are offering and make your key words specific to that....Also, i am NOT advocating adding in key words for things you dont do or sell. But i WOULD add "freebies" "free gifts" etc. if you DO offer them.

I gotcha Jojo- I do not have any words in my classified that does not really cover what u will find if u visit my store- but just so I really understand this- when i buy a Classified ad- that is what is looked at to end up in the results of Search, right? That was my understanding but am growing more and more confused-

Amar, yes there is a separate Classifieds tab. Sorry, I didn't realize you were asking about Search All in the post to which I responded.

LL has not told us how the Search All rankings are calculated, but the consensus among those who have studied it is that classifieds have no effect on Search All. Some things that seem to affect Search All are how many people have your store in their Picks, the search terms in your parcel's name and description, and the search terms from your items that have the Search option checked.

Thank you Miles- yes I went in-world and "discovered" the classified tab. Found all and all i do not rank to low in the less ambiguous terms. I am also experimenting on the Classifieds- there is a "Shopping" and a New Products heading- just did a cheapie in New Products see if anything is affected. Let u know next week.

Well I've finally caught up with this thread. It seems that I can't miss more than a couple of days here, or it takes forever to catch up.
Anyway, one thing you all reminded me to do was update my SLExchange and OnRez stuff.
I have had most of my items available in each for quite some time. You all just gave me the kick in the pants I needed to get it all up-to-date. Thanks!
Oh and I've also added them to my sig too :)

you mention the search terms for items with search option checked.... where does one put the search terms for individual items? (I never paid much attention to the search criteria)

Is it the description field? (I use that field for the price of the item, as it is how it works with the metacard scripts

I am so not motivated today, should be out handing out resumes, instead I am sitting here staring at the screen, do not even feel like doing anything in PS

the last few days I have not been feeling my usual self, under the weather and very down, sad feeling but not sure why
(maybe just the birthday looming around the corner)
*shrug*

what do you guys do when you run out of steam (both SL and RL)

First, be sure you have the Search option checked in the item's Edit window. Then include the most important search terms in the item's Name and Description fields. Your items will be listed in your parcel's page for a search in Search All. Also, the keywords will apparently help your rankings in Search All.

Below is a URL for an example from my shop. The results are the same inworld. "Objects found here" shows each item's price, name, description, and specific location:
