Anothr incident I had was in the mall at my club. I had two renters leave recently. Both simply packed their spaces and left with no word to either myself or my mall manager. There was one day left on one and one was overdue by 5 hours when i noticed them. I IMed both to comfirm their intentions were t leave the spot. However I was already a little miffed that they had not spoken to either myself or my mall manager, considering my mall manager checks in periodically etc to make sure things are ok. One did not even have the curtesy to respond.

i think this is just the way some people leave a space. i wouldn't take it personal. i lose vendors occasionally, and most of the ones who have left did so EXACTLY in this manner (no word, not g-bye, no nothing), including Rhaorth. ce la vie. it's not you, hon.

It wasnt so much i took it personally, it is just a put high value on communication. IT is one thing i value highly in RL and in SL. It really does not take a mintue to speak to someone. For me not taking the time to do this mainly leads me tothink in thisrespect... what if i had an issue with something i purchased? Would the creator find the time for me then ?

When i left Eclectic i did not realise i had too contact you too let you know or i would have done, so i'm sorry if i upset you but i did not know that i was supposed to. Like 3Ring said alot of people do this, just one of those things and i was following what i thought was the norm.

Rhi Im not upset :) Suposed to.... well i guess for me no one is required to. I was mostly making the point that communication is highly valuable. Take the time to send a message to someone you have had contact with in any form (be it a rental space or they spent a thousand linden in your store) and you will likely find soeone who remembers that.

However when i IMed you you responded and promptly. So please understand that although my ramblings involved you my comments about the lack of communication etc and going to stores was not directed at you :) It was directed at the other lady who ignored my polite im to try to confirm about the space.

I never like to assume becuase at times I have pulled everythign down in a space cos i wanted to re do it but hadnt had time that day.

It is on my blog, but here is the link -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y1AGK12tI8
I used Windows Movie Maker to get it done- and the music was added for me because I missed where to add it :( - but it looks pretty nice- I will do another one when I have enough new releases.

Meantime- last night I applied to be added to the Free*style group as a designer, so waiting on that. Today I sent invites to the peeps that had visited and or bought something of late. Also- a real world artist with an SL presence has consented to display his art in Talon Faire and we will be having a little soirée for him soon - hopefully this will be to our mutual benefit- one of his displays is already there but I will make a formal announcement when he is read. He is on display internationally in RL and has had different venues in SL.

Thank you again Amar for the great info :) (I blame "Hurricane Fatigue" - in this case endless waiting for a non-event - as my current bout of scatter-brains.

The soiree sounds wonderful! Dang this group is getting creative...we rock :)

Re: leaving vendor spaces - I had the opposite happen. The space I rented for a month on a trial basis (to see if my stuff would sell - BEFORE I had any clue on marketing), the place was empty except me and one other vendor. The owner was a lovely woman...communicated with her on set up, she was really helpful, she notified me in a "soft" manner when I inadvertently went over prim limit (another newbie seller gaffe :o).

So, despite the place being virtually empty, I gave a week's notice before I left, thanking her for everything, and explaining I was leaving due to having purchased land.

Never heard a peep back. Which may be just the way it is in business...or who knows what may have been happening in her RL...but I was left feeling like...ummm...oh well.

That's cool then Eclectic, I'm glad you were not mad:D I'll keep that in mind for future knowledge.

LOL Amaranthim completely agree, was almost ready too pull out my hair when i started on that lol, so not going too be doing sculpty's for quite a while. Another thing people are all saying too use is things like Maya, Light wave etc too bake textures, well don't don't even get me started on them programs lol. I looked at a tutorial and info on the interface of each and was just like uhh not doing that any time soon. Looks very complicated lol.

Yes ... i felt much the same way. I dont just have some mall i a club cos it mkes me money and i want money. The mall as much as anything else I do is a labour of love. My mall manager and I spend time working on how we can promote the mall. All my staff actively recommend the mall if someone is commenting in chat about shopping for something we have down there. We also have hunts, contests and other events we invite the vendors to participate in to add to their exposure. The majority of our vendors have been with us since the beginning and we actually have a waiting list for our mall (heheh YAY go us!).

It is just the things which people over looking like taking th time to IM someone which I find disheartening.Im not in this to make linden and do nothing for people. I like my vendors being sucessful :)

(Enjoying the giggle about working with tiny prims and OPPpppppssies folks, E!....ROFL - as well as the skybox deletion story. I've inadvertently deleted walls of our home and was sitting in a lovely "open" box. And then rezzing my Mysti platform waaaay high and forget to set it to the correct group. One minute I'm building, the next, I'm fallllllling!)

Anyway...ok, just put out one of my items as a freebie at the temp location I'm at and joined the Fabulously Free group...sent out a notice.

Also posted in Classifieds about the limited time freebie.

(Waiting to see what happens....)

Lots of the classes I attend now have a sculpty component and include the sculpty map as part of the class materials. I'm collecting a nice little group of them for future needs.

That's the only way I'm doing sculpties anytime soon (although I did take a great Level 1 NCI class on them so I have the general idea).

actually I think my comments here in the forums when you asked if anyone had any sales, would be enough to know I would not be renewing.

as an occasional renter, if I decide I no longer want the space, I do not feel I have to tell the owner, my stuff will be returned, it is not hard for them to do. (If I remember I will go get the stuff) a lot of times I do not even get the close to expiration notices from the rental boxes, not sure why)

I want time for classes! God I need more TIME!!!
If the non-storm had not happened my store would still look like a flea market because i spent my rl day off building the store, repositioning ad boxes, etc-

Last night I set them all to uniform size, I am still reshooting- plus I have to satellite stores I need to do the same in as well as rotate the merchandise- prim counts- I refuse to loose all forms of a social life! It's hard to shuffle both socializing and working and the time zone thing kills me! But- to be honest- I love my life :)

I have a to do list.. it is not getting to-done..

I have left a few spots due to different reason, mainly just no sales, I never have told them I just left when my time was up I never meant to be disrespectful or anything to tell you the truth it never even really crossed my mind to drop the owners a note, but now you got me thinking and I will do that from now on because it does take alot to market these malls and I guess it would be nice for them to get some kind of feed back from their tenants.

same here, just never crossed my mind to say anything to the owners, but that will change

my main reason (actually only reason) for leaving any rented spot, is little to no sales, a rule of thumb for me is if the rented store can not support it's self, then it is gone, doesn't need to make a profit, as long as it supports it's self I am fine

On Business Courtesy

I have had two incidences of this not as the creator, but on the other side recently. One was actually at a freebie hunt where one of the deigners on the sim had set their box being used for the hunt for L100. May of my friends were caught out by this, none of us picking up on the 100L th box was set at. May would say suk it up. As did botht the sim own and creator the freebie box was placed in. This however left a bad taste in my mouth. They had advertised asomethign (a freebie hunt) we had come and were supporting them (by being on their sim, adding to traffic etc), and yet I was told to simply suck it up. No apology nothing.

Both of these incidences left me feeling frustrated/annoyed/ a bit miffed at the store owners. In neither case was it entirely their fault, hwoever it made me realise on reflection that it is these sorts of little things which will make me decide to shop at one stoe or another if they both sell similar items. Why would i shop at the store where the shop owner on a previous occassion hasnt taken the time to communicate, or has brushed me off?

I guess the point of my ramblings is we need to be aware of how our comunication with our customers, and even socially comes across because this can affect our businesses. It is a little thing but it can have big impact

Totally agree .......I think that if you are receiving "Free" mall space....you certainly owe the courtesy of some communication with the mall owner....some feedback on how your sales are doing, or what kind of traffic you are receiving.....and you certainly owe a "thank you" when you leave....regardless of whether you sold anything or not.

Although it was "free" to you....it was not free to the mall owner....there are costs involved. The least one can do, is give them some feedback when they leave....so the mall owner knows if it was working or not....and can perhaps tweak things to offer a better package next time. And at the very least a "thank you."

ARGH!!!! I had a nice post all done up and hit the wrong button and deleted it! GRR

ok less long but still same points LOL

what free mall space? I think E meant a freebie hunt that had the boxes marked for sale at 100L each
(mistakes happen, but because they said suck it up, that is no mistake)

And E's mall spaces are not free spaces, I just rented one of the empty ones from her hehe (so to those who left those spaces, THANK YOU! I was on the waiting list hehe)

I never knew that mall owners want or expect the renters to contact them if they decide to leave a space, it is nice to know that (maybe include it in the mall notecard that is usually in the rental box, just a simple,

Dear Valued Customer;
If you decide to vacate your rental space please let us know as soon as possible, also, if you would be so kind as to let us know the reason that you no longer desire to rent with us, we would appreciate it. We value our renters and strive to make your rental experience with us enjoyable and profitable. If there is anything we can do to assist you please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely
The Management

(anyone feel free to use the above clip, rip it apart, reword, it etc, you get the idea.)

Now that I know how mall owners feel I will be sure to keep in touch and let them know of my experience.

my favorite mall has closed and I miss it! Always had sales there, then one day, poof gone :(
(Tillers Mall, not sure if anyone heard of it)

Several comments the last few days on offering Unique items, and how important it is, in capturing market and sales.

I'm offering up a challenge to you all, to create the most Unique item you can come up with this week. Also, a reminder to Create. Some times I have to be challenged to do so.

You may have one in your head, which you've been wanting to do, and put off....you may have one that you don't have the skills to produce, so you will have to learn a new skill ....or you may not have one, at all....and have to brainstorm....or seek advice from your group members.

I'm challenging you.......one new Unique product by next Tuesday :)

Well I half took up the challenge, due to a lack of inspiration I decided to go with something i had a clue about making. Its a very simple one. I built 4 prefab stores, same as the one I am using now, only with different textures. they are only 11 prims each and have used huge prims. Hopefully the will help someone who is just starting out that only has a small plot like me :D

Rhaorth....I ventured off the track a little....if you're paying for a mall space, maybe it's ok to just pack up and leave without word.....but what I wanted to add was for goodness sake....if it was given to you free.....then you DEFINITELY need to send a thank you upon leaving.....and some thank you's while staying, every now and then, too. People who are offering these up give a great service to those starting out, as a way to test their store ideas before taking a huge plunge.

It's just a good example of a form of business courtesy.....there are many.

Other courtesies......Amaranthim and I were talking last night about "thank you's"....and sending those to the people who have purchased from you....how important it is. One of my examples was the furniture stores that I have frequented for 2 years....some times spending as much as 20k worth of L's a week in each store.....only once did I receive a "thank you"....and that was from a gal starting out, who only had about 20 items.....but you can be darn sure I went back and bought more from her.

Hmm,,When I leave a shop in a mall, I always leave without IM or notecard. Mainly when I leave is because of the sales are not making the rent. I always give feed back to mall owner who ask about that but never give it without request. Speaking of "non respect", for me, I really don't like how many and many mall owner send notecard to shop owners without asking if I want it (on avaerage 3 to 4 a day !) Most of the time, that's the same BS notecard saying "I love your clothes, please look at my mall for renting". lol ... one time, I 've asking to the mall owner which clothes he loves in my collection ..he never replied ...

ah, now it makes sense
heh I thought it was in reply to what E said, which did not seem to make sense :)

yes I agree it is nice to recieve a thankyou
but I never expect it (and now that I think of it, I don't think I have ever gotten a thank you from a store owner unless I knew them and they were there when I purchased)

at what point should the owner send a thank you? for every purchase? What transaction level is deemed important enough to send a thank you? What if say 2 friends are shopping (at different times) and one purchases enough to reach the personal thank you level, but the other doesn't, and one gets a thank you the other doesn't... how would the non thank you feel?
what happens if purchases (one can only wish) start to exceed say 100 transactions/ customers a day... when would the owner have time for anything other than thank you's being sent out?

I would love to send a thank you to each and every person who makes a purchase, and right now I could, but... if I did it now and then get busy and stop doing it, some will feel miffed or shunned or shunted, or whatever the word is I am looking for...

Speaking of "non respect", for me, I really don't like how many and many mall owner send notecard to shop owners without asking if I want it (on avaerage 3 to 4 a day !) Most of the time, that's the same BS notecard saying "I love your clothes, please look at my mall for renting". lol ... one time, I 've asking to the mall owner which clothes he loves in my collection ..he never replied ...

yep got that too, or the ones saying I love your stuff would you consider donating some for auction for such and such, transfer/copy permission needed...
um yeah riiiight.

I did the same thing, asked them what they liked and never got a reply, they prolly never seen the inside of the store.
