Been meaning to mention I found a little market area that offers free stall space.
It's called Big Dog Free Market.
All you have to do is join the group, which is free, then rez your stuff in a stall. There's a 25 prim limit, and you'll have to pay group liabilities, but that's only been a couple of L$ a week so far. Stuff also gets returned either once or twice a month too. There's a donation box near where you land, along with a sign to click that has the full rules and contacts in a notecard. Traffic isn't much (as yet), but that could get better with a few nice stalls set up. Might be wise to be quick if you fancy one, there were three spare stalls when I just looked.
Might as well grab some free exposure :)

Ohhh...thank you so much for that tip!!!

Taking the Challenge
08-20-2008 11:28
Ok, I will take the creation challenge but in a "modified" form. (Given the hurricane, power down time, anniversaries and Partner's birthday...whew) anyway...

I have been wanting to make my Lady's Dagger scripted - just simply with a draw/sheath option. More functionality. No desire to make it a whole big combat scripted thing..but at least to able to be drawn and held in the hand.

I asked for help on the scripting forum quite awhile ago and got some good info but am realllllyyyy bad at procrastinating.

So my challenge will be to attempt to get my dagger scripted to draw and sheath by Tuesday. Then I will offer the ornamental-only version and the scripted one as well at a higher price.

OK- on the never ending quest for exposure... someone had posted about SLUniverse classifieds- I had no idea since I don't go by there, but... just posted two adverts - every little bit helps. I do like how they handle the advertising including a Slurl to your place and all - here is my ad page, I only put two so far, here is one: http://www.sluniverse.com/php/shop/showproduct.php?product=4816&limit=recent

Also- I ran a search here of all my products listed so far in the SL classifieds and printed that out- am using that as a check off sheet against SLExchange, OnRez and now SLUniverse.... geez- this could become a full time job- when am I suppose to make stuff?

Guys i am soooo impressed! I see lots more talk of marketing and i LOVE it...that is what will pay off for you.

When you do your forum posts under classifieds, also note which posts get the most views of any - not just your own. I often study what the title wording is on those and then play with mine to get them to attract more attention. Same for event notices, etc.

My new stuff is only in my store...so come on by and see it...I even added two more texture change items...ok, ill spill it - they are my curtains, drapes and blinds...that way for those who cant decide on color or want to change their decor often, now there is a solution for them.

I think we are about in the eye of the storm now so pretty calm and some light here, but it will kick back in later...this thing is creeping along and dumping soooo much rain!

Im also glad to see the freebie items are paying off for you...for those who are linked in to the fashion blogs, this is HUGE.

Yea i also use the classifieds on here, all my stuff in world is under search too. I was once told too do that can't rememeber who by and i'm going too giving out weekly freebs too i think, when i get my special outfit finished i'll show you and it will be up for next weeks freebie :)

I have been curious though about maybe starting up my own blog. Would you say you get many sales from people using your blogs?

I don't know about sales- but- since exposure breeds traffic... the more times your name gets hit the better.
And seriously- think about a Youtube Video - can't hurt! Operative word being exposure!!

Just placed a few of my things in the Big Dog Free Market that Prawnyloks posted. (25 prims in a cute beach hut that are cleared on the 1st and 15th of the month.) Until I get my rear in gear to work on my shop again, at least some of my goods are back out in world. Also put the location in my picks and did a classified.

Oh gosh..you live in FL too? Here in Central FL I've been twiddling my thumbs waiting for this darn storm to arrive or leave or just disappear.

I just looked at the stuff on sluniverse (my stuff from before) and never noticed that it shows you the views (not unique though, cuz I did a couple refreshes on one I was about to remove, and it upped the count) but still, it is nice to see if folks are looking

now I need to go through my hd and find all the ads for my stuff, and eventually post them there.... that will be a major undertaking LOL

(maybe just one or two a day)

I'm curious about this as well. And of the blog types I've seen (WordPress, Blogger, any others) anyone have any tips or pros and cons of which to use?

Thanks in advance :)

I can barely use a graphics editing program. I'm pretty sure I couldn't manage actual videos. lol

But it will be something I want to check out one of these days. (I have a friend into machinama and she said when I get my store all in place she would love to do something for me.)

I use blogger, I don't think I get sales from the blog, being my blog hits are very low
but it gives me a place I can post about things I am working on, or put pics to show folks something I made, without anyone saying I am advertising where I should not be and such
(also have the freedom to post non PG style pics)

And of course people who want to see what I am doing, or what I have done, are free to go look
I also like the google analytics to be able to see a lot of info about how many folks are visiting and such. I like knowing if folks are looking or not.

oh about freebie groups, yes they work

since E put out that one announcement and I put out mine for a new product last night, I have had more traffic, some sales, and more exposure!

I have had a little over 50 new subscribers to the subscribe o matic since E put out her notice. (and when I put out mine, it was through an officer in the group, because I am as of yet, unable to do so, and the other group I also am unable to do my own notices, and could not find an officer online)

so I would say, if for nothing else, use freebie groups to announce your freebies (one per week is the rule I saw) and get some added exposure.
you never know when a freebie hunter will turn into a paying customer

I am also trying something different than I have done (sometimes I am soooo dense in the way I think things through LOL)

I was giving freebies to only group members and no freebie to the general public
this burned me I think, as the group members came to expect the gift, and did not even bother to visit the store (general members, not all, of course there are exceptions)

so... now.. I use the subscribe o matic (SOM) to send out the notice of a new product, place a fully usable sample (not a demo) of the product as a freebie right in front of the new release, and let them come to the store and get it :)
(for example, the newest item is the shirts I made, they come in multiple layers, with 4 different "versions" of it, so I put the sample of one color, on jacket layer only, closed version, so folks can at lease see it, try it, use it etc)

That way it brings them to the store AND general public can get the freebie too

As with any new way of doing things, only time will tell
I always knew exposure was the key to generating more sale, just like anything, the more that know the higher the percentage.

I just never knew HOW to get that exposure, and this thread has been a HUGE help for me in understanding more about marketing.

To that I thank each and everyone of you, even if sometimes we did not see eye to eye, I still appreciate all the input and time spent with us here in this thread

Messing with colour variations, overlays styles, patterns etc i came up with this dress. I call it splattered Ballgown :D

Did you see mine? It is not machinima- it is a slide show set to music- take a look. Point is just to get peeps to notice.

I did a couple too, they are not really hard to do

I did one to a song (bit too long) then I did one that was part slideshow, part movie, with my voice over describing the item

If anyone decides to try video from SL, try cam studio

free to use, easy to use too

I saw your store amar
good start hon, and the best way to learn, is to do it yourself

much easier to navigate and I like the bigger ad pics
The free standing dress still strikes me as odd though
even in SL where gravity is not an issue, to me it still look weird to see stuff just floating there LOL

Thanks :) I am in the process of replacing the ad boards so they will look uniform. I love the freestanding dress - i guess just cause it's odd :) I had looked for a manikin at some point but since their not prims... i don't know.. anyhoo- I am having a blast :)
