Rhaorth....I don't have any of those items. I haven't decided yet, whether to pursue the freebie crowd. I think I would rather spend my energy on other things.....particularly working the group. I think that most of my items will be purchased by people who are doing other things, rather then running around to freebie shops....and I really don't want to promote a freebie center in the store. I would rather just give things away to the people I know will shop and spend money.
.

Hmmmmm like 45 or 50 sales (with my latest freebie) so far from those "people running around freebie stores". I like freebies but i spend a LOT of money on clothes esp in SL. However freebies give me a chance to try out your items before buying and if I hve no idea what you stuff is like on an avie this is one way to convince me to buy.

Please realise that the vast majority of those in these freebie groups are NOT newbies. They re older avies with money to spend who like adding freebies to their collections along with the othr items.

I apologize to all for my outburst, but I felt it had to be said. I was not going to sit idly by and watch my character be bashed on here. I stand by what I said and it will remain, consider it a speed bump

re sculpties... I too tried them, and just could not get the hang of it, the best I could do was make a tree, then I gave up

I am a buyer of premade maps, so I too will purchase them if they fit my needs (one of my favorites is the ones from Flying Tribe, Sylvia does cute ones, it is hers that I used to do my teddy bear avatars hehe) well with some of my own stuff added

yep, LAG LAG LAG when I am in a place with a ton of sculpties, and yep they also seem jagged until fully downloaded

sucks too :(

same here, not only the dollarbies are selling which to me is basically a form of advertising, but the new stuff is moving too, and that is the one I put out a single piece as a free sample

people are taking the sample woot

(of course my script did not report so had to double check it, and now it is sending me the reports as to when ppl touch it) will see if it sends a full report or not

it is nice to know ppl are getting it, without having to set it to 0L and filling my history with 0L sales :) (I know we can filter them, but I like it this way LOL)

just checked my sales history for today

I have gone from 1 or 2 transactions (if I was lucky) a day, to approx 50, granted most are the dollarbies, however, it shows me I am getting ppl there, and they are buying, who knows, some might even return.
(sales today so far 1,587 damn good day for me!! It looks good!

And this is before I even am able to send out the notice myself, and only got it sent to one freebie group that I am aware of (unless the owner submitted it on my behalf, have not gone in to check notices history to see)

Models
08-21-2008 20:50
Does anyone use them? A mall I have a satellite in is having a fashion show in late September and I am planning on putting in a couple things. Last time I used one of their models (free) but I really want to have someone I can work with ahead of time to make sure everything fits just so, and since each thing has a couple of different looks, I want them to be able to folder up the different looks so they can do a quick change on the catwalk so that 2 different versions of each outfit can be seen.

I have seen a few modeling agencies out there but I'm not really sure how they work, and I'm not really sure I'm ready to dish out a large amount of lindens lol. It has been suggested that I just do it myself but my SL life is texture intensive and even tho I constantly clean, sort, catalogue and move things out of my inventory, I LAG and besides I don't know what I'm doing anyway lol

So have any of you used models? Can you recommend an agency? Or can you tell me what I might expect to pay?

Help!

I just sent out two full-perm unpacker scripts to the group, so if you sometimes don't get group notices, make sure you check past notices for them :)

Thank you Skell :)

Ditto with my futon that makes a bed or couch that I sent to the group (I forget there is an option to not get group notices...I think...anyway...a free futon is there *smiles*)

Well. I made two sales today, to the same person. And she seemed unhappy that both skyboxes were fully-enclosed and didn't have doors, so I felt obliged to refund her, as I didn't want an unhappy customer.

Down in the dumps now :(

Amara, I've been looking at this for a few days now:

http://uncensored.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=278458

Actual in-world sculpting! Sounds ideal :) Yes, it's hellishly expensive, but possibly worth the investment.

Ouch and not ouch- Its $21.00 US which realistically speaking is pennies in the software world- my AvPainter was about $11.00 and even though I haven't made tons of sales in the frame of reference of RL $'s but I have certainly gotten $11.00 worth of fun out of it. I am bookmarking it for future reference... that's not the one that there is a vid on Youtube of a guy building a hammer is it? That one I have been tempted by but apparently the support was a bit poor from the Reviews...

your challenge item is beauuutiful!

we don't use furniture at home, my partner and I 'sleep' on a rug in a cave (no it's not rp, our home slice is set up like a natural grove) or on a rug beside a campfire, so we don't use furniture but if we did I would SO be wanting that!

I realize we don't "need" doors- but, yeah I prefer them too :)

Re sculties- had no idea they caused lag... one thing is for sure- SL has been instrumental in making peeps spend money on equipment!!!

I live in a tent with farm animals and a campfire. My partner did it because i kept leaving the doors open and he was always teasing me i lived in a tent. So when we redid the land he decided no houses and made me a tent, i still giggle about it

Hello. Since we are visiting and critiquing fellow residents stores...perhaps some of you wouldn't mind stopping in to GLOWBOX DESIGNS, and giving some advice? I would be deeply grateful.

As far as not having time to say "thank you"....I apply the same in RL marketing. That should be at the top of your list. If you have to leave another activity out....then do. It's always been the single most important profit generating activity. No Question. I'm sure the same applies in SL....since we are bringing the same human feelings in here.

Inserting RL story here that is applicable to the above:

One of the first "career jobs" for which I applied after college was outside sales for a major Fortune 500 company. I tend to be the type that researches things out the ying yang when I get into it, so I was reading books on interviewing tips. One said to send a handwritten thank you note (this was prior to the age of personal computers...you know, when dinosaurs roamed the earth :p) to each person that interviewed one

I did this (and for this job, it went through a series of many interviews over many days, each one going higher and higher up the chain of command).

I got the job.

First day on the job, my new manager called me into his office and one of the things he said was this:

"We narrowed the candidates for this job down to two people - you and another woman. You two were equal in so many ways - educational background, previous experience, personality for the job, how you each handled yourselves in the interviews. It would have been a very hard decision EXCEPT - the thing that made you stand out and get the job - the thank you notes."

He went on to say that the Regional Manager called him after the first set they received and the two of them had a discussion on how amazing that was as in all their years of hiring employees, this had never happened. (It may be more common now with the ease of email communication, but at that time, receiving a handwritten thank you just blew these professional men away!)

It was a HUGE plus for this job as again, it was for an outside sales position and the managers' reasoning was that I would be excellent at customer follow-up.

I'm glad I learned that early in my career. I continued to do that and any job for which I was granted an interview, I was always offered.

Ok i had a wander in your store. At first glance I couldnt work out that you sell, but i did work it out (yep im blond). I love what yu do... and damn i want that SLR camera, but i cant justify spending on something I will never use... but seriously cool stuff. I LOVE that you decorate, you dont just use al avaliable space for selling. This makes the place feel more professional and certainly draws the eye

I can see how this would be a seriously niche market, however no doubt people will buy if they need them for soemthing and no doubt people find reasons for them

I cant comment on pricing here cosI have no idea what people who wouldwant or need your items would normally spend.

Ummm im kinda tired... ill writemore later.... but cool store

See- this is what we need here-
I downloaded rokuro ages ago but my lack of success with sculpty paint put me off from even trying it.

$4500 L's isn't bad if it produces something worthwhile- I may give it a shot - thanks muchly :)

Amar, when I took it, the NCI class on sculpties used the free trial version of Rokuro. I know they have a level 2 class building on the level 1 I took.

It's a class worth taking...and if I ever want to try my hand at sculpties beyond the maps I have acquired from other classes, I'm definitely retaking that one again. :)

Czari - that's a great story - great example - there is so much power in a "Thank You." And not just for business.....in every aspect of life. It used to be a given....it was just done....and the norm. Nowadays....the "Thank You" has become rare and extraordinary.....(sad).....but if you are one who uses it....and genuinely, not mechanically......it will certainly set you apart.

I missed how to get in on the announcements in the freebee group. I"m in Fashcon, Quality Couture, and Fashion R us (but haven't sent out a notice with them yet) I try to advertise in the new products here, and the new products on SLX...and I"m putting my stock up on SLX slowly. I've sent emails and review copies and notecards to all the bloggers I could find.

I'm currently in a revamp of my shop and my items, so my shop is a bit of a mess at the moment...if you do stop by, do realize that it's a jumbled mess and I know it is ;) I'm workin on it, to stylize and standardize my 2 lines. So, if you decide to offer constructive criticizm, please keep in mind that the shop isn't the way it's going to look in a few weeks so maybe it would be best to wait until I"m done ;)

My lucky chairs give out lots of prizes. I sell a lot of 5L formals I have out. I"m putting out 4 freebies tomorrow, 2 for group only, and 2 for the general public.

Are there any other announcement groups I'm missing? :)

Thanks

Not really. See, my skyboxes don't come with gardens or anything outside, so if she'd *had* a door, she would have been stepping out into thin air. She only apparently wanted the door as a way to get in and out. I guess it's too much to sit on a prim to get in, then set a landmark.

I try to keep things as low-prim as possible, and putting in a door would have added a minimum of two extra prims to the build. The ad picture *shows* there are no doors, and she got a 20x20, 20-prim skybox for 50L$. And it still wasn't enough? *sigh*

Same with the other one she bought: a 20x20 skybox that's three-storeys high and fully enclosed, with lights and a small sleeping area with bed and poseball. Again, only 50L$ and less than 70 prims. But she didn't like that it had no door.

Well, she's got 'em both for free now anyway.
