Typecasting.

Perhaps LL should do a closed auction for all parcel owners in Zindra that have their parcel built with adult content by August 10th. This would encourage people to move forward and get their business going again - and these folks would have the opportunity to get the land they need for their prims without being raked over the reseller coals.
Great idea. Of course it would require them to have to moderate and restrict it somehow, which takes manpower, so it will never happen.

Once again land barons get portrayed as the villains.

They are opportunists. Anyone who bids and wins Zindra plots in auction can flip them. You don't have to be a land baron to speculate in this way. You just need tier, the money to invest and the balls to do it in this unstable market.

Are you eating those hamster pellets yet as land went to L$1.8 :p

Yeah agreed, opportunists and I don't see it knocking with Zindra. LL have messed up big time on this one but when they start out clueless it's no surprise.

Feasting on a constant supply of pellets since I saw a flat green 512 for $999.

I was very put off by the out of date Linden palms and seaweed that I saw on my Zindra tour. Color me unimpressed. I think double prims or a forced need to sell adult content would be the only reason to buy in.

I must be looking the wrong places. I keep seeing land as high as 100 lindens per sq m or more. Mainland.

[...] I hope adult land available from estates will help keep the speculation down some. It is a small glimmer of hope.
I shouldn't try to predict auction prices: I thought Nautilus City was far too much of a far too specialized theme for there to be a lot of demand, and that speculators would quickly realize that the market was saturated. Didn't work out that way. Nonetheless, there are some reasons to think this time will be different.

First, quite right: Adult estate sims mean that Zindra has no exclusive lock on Adult content.

Second, they did something very strange on Zindra: they slapped "city" zoning restrictions--no terraform and no subdivide/join--on single-primmed parcels. In the past, auctioned "city" land had double prims as compensation for giving up the other abilities. Here... well, you can see on the map: single-primmed city parcels are almost entirely vacant. I'm sure flippers can try to hide that, but relying on a market of mistakes is a risky business practice.

Then there are all the infrastructure design and implementation mistakes. The roads don't work--they're actually the *worst* place to try to travel on Zindra. The trees are absurd. The theme builds are mostly awful. Everything that could plausibly glow is in full glaring bloom. Etc.

And finally, the only parts of Zindra that will be auctioned are those that were passed over by the first wave of migrants. When the speculators try to sell off their auction winnings, everybody will know that those parcels were rejected by hundreds of residents.

It occurs to me that it could be useful to have a database of what land area was and wasn't claimed when the swap migration is complete, as a service to future buyers, who might want to think twice about why a particular parcel remained available when auctions started.

Thanks.

I'm trying to be good, and stick to the lots I have, and build on those...maybe even earn some *gasp* money in world (now THAT would be a first...for me) before I buy more land. I'm also thinking that at the point I keep nickel and diming it, driving my tier costs higher, I should just wait til I get some $ and buy an island.

Sighs.

LL you had me at hello.

Don't you think that some will think "if i can shag on it, what does it matter what the land looks like?"

Great critique of the "premier vacation spot" that is Zindra. Thank you for pointing out the city zoning restrictions. Sadly, most people won't be aware of subtle but critical nuances such as that. They might assume that Mainland is Mainland and should have terraforming or subdivide/join options.

Anyone who can't figure out they can shag on any private plot on the hundreds of almost-always empty Mainland sims deserves to pay through the nose for Zindra land.

So how does 'they are opportunists' negate 'portrayed as villains', hmm?

Hint: we are not living in the 80s when wall street brokers were seen as some kind of deities. Ask people what they think of AGW (or whatever their name is this week).

Last time I checked, Capitalism was still in place in America.

I see a subtle distinction between the two. Semantics.

Last I checked, not all of SLers are Americans.

BTW, last I checked reaganomics was not exactly considered a good idea either.

Check again. It actually worked.

Whereas our esteemed Vice President has recently said that since the country is going to go bankrupt anyway, the only thing to do is to spend all the money we can while we still have it.

Even a second grader knows more about money than Our Leaders.

yes but not everyone lives in america (almost had a west side story flashback). Landbarons have often been the center of controversy for various reasons issues and specificly only a handful (land bots, early void sim access, etc).

Ok just got an intersting perspective from LL. I can't access like 16+ sims in zindra and was told this was intentional cause they aren't ready yet....but I could request my land move there. So even though the land is not ready, could change appearance, and I can't access it...I can move there!

EDIT: and some of the sims are like 2 or three sims deep so I'd have to max out my camera and pray I can see it all.

You can shag in your skybox and in your house....but not on your lawn, beach, garden, balcony, patio, pool (unless indoors), sky, car, motorcyle.

Also remember this is AO land. Intersting that this seems to mimic (though not sure if confirmed) the ERSB ratings. This includes not just sex but sex seems to be the largest issue normally.

Could you scan roughly and get an idea then you ask for it there and ask to wait until it's open to choose properly? Just describe what you want, the beach and sunset etc and area and ask that you get 1st choice as your ticket is on hold.

The regions are online and you can get to other zindra ones but not those?

yup...hold on let me get the list I confirmed last night:
"A current example would be so far I am unable to access the following sims:
Haxness, loamford, Metcalfe Gully, Jevenobe, Uthers Tarn, Wilburs Gate, Crossbrook, Ronwire, Qondriac, Austerity, Yuxley, Parluck, Quentinne, Villevotte, Duffield, Joniper, and well I think you get the point."

response:
"You are more than welcome to wait if you like. The reason residents cannot get to certain regions is because those regions are not yet finished have have not been opened yet. "

Update:
"There is some land that is still being shaped and parceled, but you can choose from the land that is already available. If you recheck, some of the areas there where closed off are already open again.

If two people pick the same land, it is awarded to the oldest ticket we have on file. For this reason we ask that you make several choices, I'm sorry that this is the second time you're having to do so. When you find 3 new choices let us know and we'll get you set up with your new land. "

So people basicly can bid on the land before it's available is my take. I'm willing to bet alot of those now open sims are already taken. Specially since most were beach/water(river)front.
