From: MortVent Charron You know... search gaming is like spam emails. Sure it's bad on the systems out there
All it does is allow the spammers to be seen and found by people that wouldn't normally see their products... they just work harder to be seen than others!
guess they shouldn't make laws against spam then! It's just marketing.
/end sarcasm Spam is surely someone sending you an advert you haven't asked for. Search optimisation is someone tailoring their results to be found by someone looking for their product. If their parcel doesn't contain the said items, then that's gaming.

The difference is here it's spamming picks and traffic.. So I could sell 3 items and optimize the hell out of the parcel to appear first... I would have the content there so it's okay. Even if it's just rebranded freebies.

Spamming picks would require a hell of a lot of bots that meet a criteria above and beyond that of most bots, that's simply not happening. Not all avatars count for picks, precisely to stop the concept of spamming picks.

Or was it changed after they saw them to not count many of them anymore due to abuse of the idea of picks counting. Thing about the use of traffic in the GSA... it's not a link, it's a data set in the database. So they already changed the system and it's operation. So it's a just tweaking the code again to alter how things are measured. Personally I'd say set up a flag based system, raise too many flags with 'optimization' that goes beyond into the realm of cheating the system and be delisted from search pending a LL look at your behavior by the G-team (sometime in the next year or so). Go ahead and actually optimize, but don't expect many to consider it okay when you resort to tactics that would get you delisted from search engines in a heart beat.

Or was it changed after they saw them to not count many of them anymore due to abuse of the idea of picks counting. All avatars haven't counted in picks from the start, LL obviously saw the potential for people to simply use bots galore to have picks and realised it was an area that would lead to silliness. This has been the case from the start of picks being used as IBL's. From: Sansha Soulstar Thing about the use of traffic in the GSA... it's not a link, it's a data set in the database. So they already changed the system and it's operation. So it's a just tweaking the code again to alter how things are measured. Traffic counts for very little in GSA, it has very little influence at all. From: Sansha Soulstar Personally I'd say set up a flag based system, raise too many flags with 'optimization' that goes beyond into the realm of cheating the system and be delisted from search pending a LL look at your behavior by the G-team (sometime in the next year or so).

Linden Lab run the search engine here, not all search engines agree on what does and doesn't get someone delisted, that's why there have been many arguments about it. Yahoo and Google for example have disagreed on the relevance of paid links.

From: Mickey Vandeverre So what kind of business do you run Sansha? work in the HR division of a company with offices in 5 countries, so we have the GSA's for searching the network both locally and corporate wide. They are highly customizable, they have to be. After all the documents on the servers are not going to have in bound links... which are not actually needed to run a search index on the documents. Or in this case anything listed in all search

From: Sling Trebuchet So explain the 9 things in detail. Your usual 'Because I say so' is not enough. Your usual 'proof by repetition' is not enough. Failure to explain will be taken as an admission that you are a bag of wind. When you tell us *how* IBLs work to improve the ranking - to be tghe most important factor - then I'll explain the 9 things in detail. You claimed that you know how it works. I don't believe for one moment that you know, but it's remotely possible that I'm wrong. I did say that you not telling us would be taken as an admission that you don't know. You haven't told us, therefore you admit that you don't know - you admit to having claimed you knew something when you didn't know it at all. You didn't know what you were talking about. Is there any any point in attempting a normal discussion with you?

From: Mickey Vandeverre This is a SL business? Real life, but business ethics apply to both I ran a sl business on the old account for awhile, mostly just offered vendor space for small time creators on rented land. Pretty much a mall, but instead of rent the vendors gave me a 5% cut of the sale prices. Paid for the land and my premium account. So I did know a bit about getting people there to buy. traffic was legit without camping or bots to increase it, no spam bots running around spamming local with ads (till that was banned too), no spamming groups with links, etc... Just honest feet hitting the ground and buying. Now, it's a drive to see who can manipulate search to the point it's worthless as a tool.

Now, it's a drive to see who can manipulate search to the point it's worthless as a tool. Ok....I see....so you ran a very honest business in SL....why the need to give it up? Oh wait....I see that it only paid for land and a premium account.... ........you wouldn't happen to be one of those disgruntled business owners that didn't make it....and decided you would start finding fault with those who are making it.....surely that's not the case.....because I really hate it when that happens.... .....when that happens....I have to toss out a list of reasons why someone may not have made it...it can be a tad embarrassing.....the list is really long.....and I think the others here hate it when I do that.

Try again, I didn't say that was all it paid for just that it paid the rent and for the account. I did not say it didn't pay more than that. But if you must know, I paid all my bills running that honest little failure of a business in your eyes because I played by the same rules and ethics I use in RL

Enough drama to make the World of Darkness forums look like Hello Kitty Online's forums... See i find that real strange...your main account has been here since 2003/4....and you never once posted in Resident Answers forum in all that time, yet your new ALT has managed to accumulate 16 posts since 25th April. (4 days) You have posted into 3 threads so far.....ironically into the same 3 threads where a certain Furry fellow posted in too!
