From: Phil Deakins I agree with that, Mickey. I haven't noticed anything that has changed from when the All search first came in - except the recent flaw that inspired this thread, but that was dealt with in a few days. If there have been other temporary flaws, I've forgotten them, but I've seen no reason to adjust my thinking away from what it was at the outset.
It's possible that rankings are seen to change because more and more people gain knowledge on how to rank highly, and they push some of the previously high-ranked pages down. ok - well I'm going to go along the lines of it "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".....but you've got some ground to cover on the Purple Passion thing.....I'll give you a week....if I don't see it show up.....I'm running with it.

I'll skip that If you read one of my posts today in another thread, you'll know that I've been in a "what's the point in bothering?" mode for a little while.

I read that....and sorry to hear that.....even considering our history.....am not an advocate for business owners giving up due to a few hurdles....but your frustrations with recent events might be very similar to the frustrations that some of us felt with the traffic search.....and a feeling that it is futile to try to compete with it. It's not. But I do remember the "what's the point in bothering" feeling quite well. You give up now.....and you pretty much send a message that you cannot survive without your bots. I don't recall that ever being one of your messages......although it was in the back of my mind.

I wasn't even aware of our history until you mentioned purple the other day and, even then, I had to check I remember events and such but not names, unless they are persistant, like Sling. The bots have nothing to do with it. I always could survive without them, and I still can and do. That's not one of the things that are causing the "why bother" attitude in me. It's the uncertainty concerning the Adult continent - whether or not I'll be compelled to move or close, and the script limitations, which could mean that I can't even maintain the things that I have for sale now, let alone any anything new - and I own almost all the sim. It's the uncertainty of whether or not the store will be able to stay where it is, and also whether or not I'll be able to add items or even keep what's already there. It's those uncertainties that have caused me to stop working on the castle, which is a very long way from being finished, and to not even consider making anything new. I'm basically doing nothing until I know what's just around the corner. Actually, there is one thing I'm doing - tweaking my rankings in the All search, but that's more of being something interesting to do than anything else - and I'm being succesful at it.

That "uncertainty" you speak of.....is exactly the same kind of "uncertainty"....those who struggled to compete with the traffic search felt. Same thing....regardless of issue. But go ahead.....prove it....."make my day."

I don't think it is the same. In the days of bots, everyone knew exactly where they stood. The uncertainty now is because I really don't know where I stand with regard to the script limitations and the adult continent; i.e. what the near future will hold - whether or not I can actually continue because I *won't* move.
Frustration with the situation might be the same - frustration - but that's not due to uncertainty.

I never knew where I stood. Now....when I see a few businesses that had traffic counts over 100,000.....show up with a traffic count of 16 for one whole day....on a 65k sqm parcel........ I know exactly where I stand. Sort of gets the creative juices flowing again.....love it.

I know exactly where I stand. Sort of gets the creative juices flowing again.....love it. hehe. I'm merely pointing out that, in the bot days, everyone knew exactly where they stood regarding the traffic rankings - they either used bots, or they chose not to use them, or they couldn't use them for whatever reason, but in every case, everyone knew exactly where they stood. There was no uncertainty about it. For me, it's different now. I don't continue with the castle because I don't know if I'll have the land for much longer. I don't make anything new, because I don't know what the script memory limitations will be like and I do like to make things that are more than what they appear to be - color or texture changing, for instance, and even shape changing. I just don't know if I'll have the store and land much longer - hence that "what's the point in bothering" attitude. I would agree that people who chose not to use bots, or couldn't use them, could easily have had the same "what's the point in bothering" attitude (and I don't think LL will do enough for that to change), but that wasn't uncertainty - it's best described as frustration, and was due to either choosing not to compete in the same way, or by not being able to compete in the same.

Close enough......although many of us found other ways to compete quite effectively. He's all yours, Sling. Once you break them down....that challenge...that "tension"......is all gone.
