Sometime in the last hour, the results from the All search became hardly recognisable. Will it last or is it some transient messing up by LL?

They're messing with adult keyword filtering so I expect a lot of chaos in the coming months.

Well shucks. I had my description perfect. I suppose I'll have to go look at it again after this is all over. Make sure I don't have the word "analogy" in there anywhere.

lol Oryx!
I probably is something do with preparing for the adult search, as you suggest, Ciaran. They appear to have made a fresh index of html pages, rather than just replacing the contents as is normal with the 12 hour page refreshes. But even so, nothing is being filtered from the All search, so I can't imagine why the rankings would have changed so radically if it were just part of the preparations. We'll see what transpires in the next day or so. _____________________

Awesome, I've dropped from first place to second or third page on the keywords I care about.

Apart from the Adult keyword vector, LL did blog that
n the next few months, we will be making both technical and policy changes to the way relevance and ranking works in Search. The "traffic" score will be only one aspect of the ranking logic, and it will be scrubbed and weighted to account for gaming vectors. While contemplating the resulting chaos and brokenness, please remember to kick your local friendly search-gamers between the legs any time you come across them. _____________________

While contemplating the resulting chaos and brokenness, please remember to kick your local friendly search-gamers between the legs any time you come across them. Since I can't figure out how the Search engine works, I've decided to embrace the search-gamers and subscribe to their newletter. They'll be the first to figure out whatever new system is in place. I never will. The only way to survive the system in a Kafkaesque world is to submit to the system. - Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb |

Well, whatever this is, it really doesn't like my mainstore. :/
I have to be AFK a fair bit today anyway, so I'll just wait and see what tomorrow brings. _____________________

I too have had a number 1 listing drop to low on the second page of All today. A while back, I created a duplicate store on a property next to my main store to do some testing on IBLs and keywords. Over the last 2 weeks the test store moved up to first page, but my main store remained #1. Today the test shop is #1, my main store is on page 2. The test shop has only half the inventory of the main, but the real difference between the two is traffic. I have kept my main store at around 4000 with "good" bots and last time I checked the test store was 63. Could this have anything to do with the new traffic policy?

Being as how (I believe) they created a brand new index of html pages, it could well be that all the IBLs haven't yet been accounted for and that things will look a lot different in the next day or so - maybe less.
The reason I think they created a brand new index of html pages is because the pages that I've visited don't show in the visited color. They show in the unvisted color. I put that down to them being different URLs - different pagenames - i.e. different UUID numbers for pagenames. _____________________

Any chance it could be related to this? That might be an explanation why the JVA profile pick boards have stopped working again on new picks... *sighs* _____________________

It could well be that. If avatar URLs are not as they should be, then the links that the search system uses may be finding a lot of "dangling links" - links that point to pages that don't exist. If the avatar pages are not being found by the system, then their links (Picks) to places' pages won't be found and that would definitely affect the rankings. But don't worry about me, folks. I moved up to #1 for the single word "furniture" ![]() _____________________

I jumped from the first page down to the third page on the keywords that probably get me the most hits when people search all.

I don't think so. I'm sensing mild irritation in your post. Lookit asswipe... If Search did not have to try and deal with gamers, the algorithms would be a lot simpler. The moment the engines get all 'clever' that's when the innocent really start to suffer. Search-games are pissing in the pool. They cheat-at-cards. They are a low form of life. When the system starts to try to mitigate the damage done to results by the gamers, it screws it up even more for everybody. _____________________

Filtering adult stuff has NOTHING to do with search-gamers. And ffs, they're just advertising.

And ffs, they're just advertising. guess you missed the part where they are altering the math behind search in order to minimize the effect of traffic due to the way it was manipulated in order to alter search rankings. _____________________

Lookit asswipe... If Search did not have to try and deal with gamers, the algorithms would be a lot simpler. LL does not have the ability to change the alorithms. You believing things like that, and what you post about it, is what makes you show yourself up as such an idiot. _____________________
