It's highly probable that the current strangeness is not due to the playing with adult stuff keywords. It could well be just standard SNAFU.

Now that you raise the topic of the adult stuff. The discussions on this are an illustration of how difficult it is to tailor search results in response to a need other than the search terms used.
LL say that they plan to start working on the ranking by taking gaming vectors into account.
You just know that search ranking is about to go through constant strangeness once they start in on it.

sorry, my mistake....i thought you meant that folks should "kick" whenever possible in whatever way possible...since this is SL of course.

so that said....how is that kind of behavior different from the search manipulation? in my mind you either take the high road or you dont no matter what behaviors are exhibited.

Honestly, when it comes to what Phil thinks about what Linden Lab can and can't do with the search, vs. what Linden Lab officially says they can do with the Search, I trust Linden Lab. I don't read every word that either party has ever spoken. However, Linden Lab has lied to me far more often than Phil has. He may be wrong, but if I don't know myself for sure, his word is the safer investment.

P.S. To be clear, I do not support or use traffic bots. At least not yet. My thing is that I hate Traffic as the top dominant force when it comes to Search results, and the lack of alternative ways of getting results without Traffic's influence.

P.S. Pt. II. I should mention that I believe I don't use Traffic bots. However, I do leave my avatar logged in unattended rather than logging out, just for the little bit of extra traffic boost. If Linden Lab considers me to be a part-time bot under the new rules, which are vague and leave "bot" undefined, then maybe I am using a traffic bot without realizing it.

It had everything to do with preparing for the adult filtered searches, which has nothing to do with search gaming. Get it now, idiot?

All I know is the search all results have drastically changed...for whatever reason.

That is the main reason why I lost my temper in that posting. Sling has the honor of being the first one to succeed in that.

Sling has her own set of values we all have to live by, if not we are lowlifes, asswhipes, and those are the mild ones. Only those with her view on ethics are worthy. Sad enough, she would not recognize the highroad if she gets run over while walking on it. Each and every thread where the word Search is mentioned, she feels the need to convince us of her holy view. Most of the time I can laugh about it, this time I got irritated. Did it show?

Why can I laught about it most of the time? Because most of the time, when search is regarded, she has no clue what she is talking about. And any valid argument gets wrapped in so much bullshit, it still doesn't make any sense.

Part of the reason I got irritated is bacause of what you read above, part of it is seeing my business go to the third page, where I was on page one at #4 for my keywords. When one spends so much time in investigating search and optimizing for it, that is sour. Glad things returned to be as they should be though.

What I really do not understand, is why LL decides to mess around with the live system, where are sensible developers would use a copy of the database to do tryouts. How the hell are we supposed to do business on a platform that is used as a sandbox by it's developers?

Changing parcel name or description has no influence whatsoever on picks and landmarks. Doing that occasionally as part of search optimizing. Or Gaming, according to a valued forum member

So, nice and easy question for you, Sling: If you think traffic is bullshit and if you (I presume) think picks camping is also screwing results... what criteria would YOU invent to make search show an exact result of the relevance of a place?

No. All the Picks out there are fixed, unless the person changes something themselves. You changing something at your end won't affect them at all.

So if I'm tired of "Int'l House Of Style - Cheongsam Sari Salwars Lehenga Kimono" I can change it, and not have it screw up people's Picks/Landmarks that land me in the top 3 or 4 of my desired range?

I can change it to "International House Of Style......." (understanding that cheongsam, sair, salwars, lehenga, kimono will no longer be a part of my major search logarithm) without jacking up Picks/Landmarks?
