From: Marianne McCann What other two? They only made the first. No sequels were ever made to the Matrix
It's like when people claim there were actual "prequels" to Star Wars. How could that ever happen?
(I reject your reality and substitute my own!) Congrats on getting #100500

Oh how sad. What teenager couldn't relate to Holden Caulfield? From: Holden Caulfield If you had a million years to do it in, you couldn't rub out even half the 'Fuck you' signs in the world. It's impossible. Go towards the light, Zelda will be there waiting for you Along with Howard

From: Maureen Boccaccio woo hoo! Very exciting. I note that the arrival of this set up is suspiciously close to the Super Bowl... But, heck no...I'd be going for LOTR, the trilogy. Or the new Star Trek movie. Or "Last of the Mohicans" or.... Noooo....not the...oh well, I guess we'll at least watch the commercials. I think we can reach a compromise on "Blade Runner". That movie has enough special effects to satisfy the Geek, and I adore Harrison Ford. Besides, I *have* to watch the Superbowl. My partner Cindi's favorite team, the Saints, are playing. I didn't know Salinger was still alive, even. That was one strange book.

From: Joshooah Lovenkraft Oh how sad. What teenager couldn't relate to Holden Caulfield? *ahem* Well, actually . . . I couldn't. Maybe I already knew too many pimply little wannabe pseudo-philosophers when I was a teen. He struck me as kind of a drag. And his angst was definitely not of the "cool" kind. Now, on the other hand, "For Esme, with Love and Squalor" is a BRILLIANT story.

It wasn't one of my favorite books, either, but boy, talk about an influential novel.

From: Chris Norse Angst is never cool. Confidence and strength are cool. Oh piffle. Confidence and strength certainly CAN be cool, but angst . . . just that right degree of introspection, brooding melancholy, and vulnerability . . . Actually, angst can be not merely cool, but sometimes downright sexy. /me wanders across the moor . . . "Heathcliff!!!!"

From: Milla Janick I'll bet "Blade Runner" is awesome on blu-ray. Me too! I read Catcher in the Rye such a long time ago. I remember enjoying it but not too much else. Presumably Salinger wrote other books but if so I don't remember anything about them. I guess I could look it up.. Ok here we go: From: someone * The Catcher in the Rye (1951) * Nine Stories (1953) o "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" (194 o "Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut" (194 o "Just Before the War with the Eskimos" (194 o "The Laughing Man" (1949) o "Down at the Dinghy" (1949) o "For Esmé – with Love and Squalor" (1950) o "Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes" (1951) o "De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period" (1952) o "Teddy" (1953) * Franny and Zooey (1961) * Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction (1963) o "Raise High the Roof-Beam, Carpenters" (1955) o "Seymour: An Introduction" (1959) I don't recognize any of these titles. Anyway I'm glad he lived to a ripe old age and sorry he's gone. From: Joshooah Lovenkraft cbc bbc and cnn so there! Me: BBC and NYT From: Joshooah Lovenkraft ROFL Lol Lol

How NOT to Make Friends in SL
01-28-2010 11:45
You all know me, and how I love to help newbies.
Last night I met one I took a real dislike to. I was willing to cut him a lot of slack because he was obviously not a native English speaker. But...
I was standing on my beach, camming here and there, wondering if there is room here for a dance floor, when I get a hug request.
I snap my camera back and here is Boy Next Door standing next to me. Rezdate of today. "Hello, Boy Next Door, and welcome to Second Life." "Thanks"
We exchanged pleasantries, and he offered friendship, and he asked about the hotel. I said, "I'll show it to you, follow me". After a bit of the usual newbie clumsiness, he did. He flew out of chat range and flitted about the building, then came back.
"It looks nice on outside, but the rooms are bad" "Why is that?" "There are no flirt beds in them"
Well, it was clear that the fellow was expecting someone to build a hotel and leave it wide open for anyone to come and bounce on the mattresses, but I stayed polite. I explained that the rooms are furnished by the people who rent them.
About this time my partner Eveline showed up. Boy Next Door asked, in IM this time, "You have sex with her?" "What an impolite question! But yes, she is my wife here." "Are you a man?" "That is another impolite question. Please leave."
He flew off, and a minute later, de-Friended me.
I wish I'd followed my first impulse, and shot him when he sent the unsolicited Hug request.
(Of course, it's likely he was a new alt, not a true newbie. He understood IM and Friending and de-friending very well. But that would mean there's even LESS of an excuse for his behavior.)
NEWCOMERS: Second Life is a new world. You should remember that, and remember that all new lands have their own customs and ways of life. Tread lightly until you learn the local customs, and your Second Life will be a LOT happier.
