I made another home video! This time I bust a move with my dynamically enabled shadow on the viewer. It's still quite buggy and alpha channels go a bit glitchy. Take a look if you're interested

Very cool. Any idea of how many light sources are available in that mode?

Here is what I look like as a blue elf standing next to Mistress

Unfortunately, this is the best I can find of normalish me standing next to Mistress (finding such pictures is somewhat difficult, heh)

I have a picture all set to upload, with several others, that would have worked. I should have posted pictures here after I uploaded everything.

Actually I think it would work quite well with photography despite the glitches, from what I've seen at least. I like how things like trees with alpha channels still cast a shadow which could make for some moody effects in photograpy. All this video and photography stuff I'm still playing with but I think I will use shadows when warranted for taking pics.

Shadows can make for very good snapshots, but working around the glitches can make getting a good picture very difficult or impossible. Objects will show through each other and Linden water is black in snapshots on my PC.

I still use Kirsten's SD2-R7 shadowdraft viewer for snapshots. None of the later shadow viewers work as well.

For $300 bucks, I picked up this little Samsung netbook. ...
SL looks kind of cartoony, but I can live with that until I get a big computer again.
Cool, Seven! But DO NOT use it for SL unless you use a cooling pad. Your little nettie will fry!

A cooling pad is a skinny thing with two fans in it that your notebook sits on top of, usually runs off of USB power, 10-30$ depending on where you get it.

Very good question Marianne! Since my Dad always made me look up answers to my endless questions as a kid, I'm going to assign this to you as an extra credit school assignment (because I don't know the answer :) )

I haven't had a chance to try Kirsten's shadowdraft viewer but I didn't notice any issues with Linden water being black on the std or SG viewer. In fact I noticed how it was cool that my av shadow cast a long shadow at sunset on the water for an interesting effect. I mainly had problems with my avatar shadow disappearing sometimes and only casting worn prim shadows but a rebake fixed that. As for the glitchy alpha sorting issues, I just fiddle with my cam view.

That was fun to watch. I have GOT to get a better computer.

I've had surprisingly few dreams that are about Second Life but last night I did have one.

I was in real life but I'd discovered a way of accessing Second Life without logging in, so that I could go to places without my avatar or nametag, like I was just an anonymous invisible camera! I found myself looking at a place where there were several avatars at a party and one of them was learning a stilt-walking animation. What was clever is that the animation got better each time they tried it!
Very interesting. And how did that make you feel?

Seriously Conifer, I think the feeling of SL has gotten into some of my dreams but I don't remember any as clear as this.

lol...It took me forever to realize that Silvio Dante was Steve Van Zandt!!

I'm glad you're feeling better now, dear! :)...major snaps...
Thanks, Mo I'm feeling much better. I've never seen "The Sopranos" so I only just learned that "Little Steven" was in it.

@ Lexxi If you put all your pictures in a coffee table book, I'd save up the money and buy it.

The water may be a combination of the hardware & software on my PC. The water looks fine, except in snapshots.

Adjusting the camera angle to fix alpha glitches is a double edged sword because it alters your composition. You cam get rid of the glitches, but it's not the same picture.

At SLCC, the main presentation room was filled with them. Everybody had one. You could go in there any time of day or night and there would be people on their netbooks. I of course don't know what they were doing, except one that I knew for a fact was blogging SLCC, but I assumed many of them were inworld, I mean, it WAS SLCC, bunch of addicts... :p . They might be ok for short visits but for a good long session, I wouldn't try it.

Yeah, that netbook was TOO TOO "wee". And SL was too cartoony and slow. I spent a couple hours setting up Windows and realized there was no way I could do any serious work on the thing, so I'm bringing it back.

So I went to Best Buy and told the guy I had to be able to run SL. He was really good - looked up the specs online and showed me a couple that would do the work, told me how they were different. He really knew his stuff... I don't know a lot about hardware, but after two years working with my ex-boss, I can tell if someone else does.

So, now I've got a nice HP with a huge screen and an ATI Radeon HD card and 4G ram and etc. etc. SL looks beautiful in it.

Actually Mrs. Tex did quite well. Her goal was to finish under 3 hours and she made 2:59, so she was really happy. :)

The course was a 13 mile lap with the full marathoners running two laps. I had teased her before the start that the winning marathon runner would pass her twice. She had the last laugh though as finished just ahead of the winner who ran a 3:02.

Okay I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Milla you're right, I tried taking pics of linden water with shadows enabled and it's all black. I had my head stuck with taking video! I defer to your photographic expertise! :)

Here I proudly display the oil painting by Weston Graves in my living room. Yes, I am wearing pajamas. I love Weston's description of the piece and you can visit his exhibition here: slurl.com/secondlife/Livyathan/155/5/43

Linguagorgon by Weston Graves

"This piece was done in oils specifically to get into a World Horror Convention show. Otherwise I'm not sure where these ideas come from.

I remember showing this piece at a gallery in real life with a group of my fellow genre artists. "Linguagorgon" was hanging about midway down a wall of what I thought were fairly tame, family oriented science fiction / fantasy pieces. An elderly lady came in and started browsing, her frown lines becoming deeper with each piece she tried to examine. When she got to this piece, she turned around and walked out, almost running, swatting at her hair as if bugs were crawling in it.

My apologies to you, dear lady, wherever you are, for having that adverse effect on you -- and thanks! You made my day."

I probably wouldn't hang it in my house but I'd go to see it in a gallery multiple times. The word I want to use to describe it is riveting.

The Jets were magnificent tonight, thanks in large part to our fabulous rookie QB Mark Sanchez.

Btw I guess we'll be rooting against each other next week...

Thank you, Joshooah, for sharing. That is amazing work, Weston! Wow! You have a fine hand. The use of color is fantastic. I can't wait to visit the gallery and see it all!

HBO is rebroadcasting the Band of Brothers miniseries. I just finished re-watching episode #1. If you have an appreciation for historical dramas based on real life events... this one is worth your time.

The producers, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have a new 10 part miniseries, The Pacific. It will begin airing on March 14th. That was my father's war; something he would never talk about. I am hoping to gain further insight to what he went through, and an understanding of why it was so painful for him.

*tears rolling down my face*

OK... three posts in a row. I should stop now.

G'night an G'morning, all! I hope yer weekend was super!

I gotta admit, most of my weekend was spent in RL, an what time I did spend inworld, well, I did not take my piccies of it. :-(

I did do a series of piccies at the bowling alley in Bay City, though, so 'm gonna share those!

Addressing the ball

Down the lane

After the 10th frame

What time I did spend inworld was spent checking out the Mole work on the railroad (specifically at Crumbi and Pawpaw) and the street signs going in within Bay City, catching a Maximillion Kleene and Beth Odets show, working on some other Bay City stuff, and doing some finishing touches and tweaks in Miramare place and my Bay City plots.

Here's hopin' for a super week for us all!
