just ignore and let this one die

We had been watching him carefully the past few months, knowing we might have to make that call and never really sure whether or not it was time. He has been up and down during those months, but had enough good days that we just couldn't call it yet. It was a bit harder for him to move and breathe this morning, but we have seen times like that too. He did go outside as usual, even if a bit slower than normal and then came in and went to sleep a final time. While it was hard to find him like that, it was much easier than the agony of a really sick one and having to put them down.

This is what my kitten, Saffron, THINKS she looks like when she attacks my hand with all four tiny paws and a mouthful of little needles.

Brenda...that story about your dog is heart-wrenching. I only pray that you and the Boomer are together for many happy years.

I had a similar situation with my last dog, Bear. He was an absolutely wonderful Shepherd/Rotweiller mutt, the most lovable yet protective dog imaginable. He got to about 12 or so and had a moderate stroke. For a couple of months he had good days and bad days. One day he was laying in his favorite spot in the kitchen, and went into the living room to watch tv. After awhile he came in and put his head in my lap and looked at me. I talked to him a bit, stroked him and he got up and went back to his spot. A little while later, I went to check on him and he was gone. It was as if he knew and wanted to say goodbye.

OMG - Spanky hadn't done that much at all in the last year just cuz standing for very long was hard on him. Last night he came up to my husband and put his head on his knee for a bit of petting and stayed there for over 5 min. And then he did the same with me. At the time, I really did not think anything about it, but as you say it really is like he knew, even if we didn't, that his time was getting short. That makes last night even sweeter.

If someone can add in a pickup truck, with dying dogs and losing your job, we'd have the making of a great Country and Western song.

We also need the spouse/lover to leave.

I'm not even going to try to catch up on the past 100 posts, as it was a rough night and a worse morning. My doggy, Spanky, passed away this morning. It was good and bad together. He is 1/2 Border Collie and 1/2 Great Pyrenees. Great Pyrenees seldom live past 10 years and Spanky turned 13 just this past Christmas Eve, so the Border Collie gave him a few more years. We have been expecting this for about a year now, so though it is a bit hard on us, it is still easier than when our other ones got suddenly sick and died.

I agree, Disney puts on an AMAZING show. I hadn't been there since high school, and I expected it to feel so corny... but it was really beautiful. They do what they do, and they do it well.

So, I looked around our house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving for church this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Tequila, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of my rum cake, also the Black Russian Cake, some Doritos, and a box of Godiva chocolates. I never made it to church........You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.

So sorry to hear about your loss. You can tell from the photos he was a very sweet soul.

I had visitations in dreams from both my Malteses about a week after they passed. I hope that happens for you too.
