From: Seven Okelli @Brenda - Happy rez day!
Wow, what a day! Fun day, busy day, good day. I can't tell you everything that happened, but I needed to buy a new laptop to replace the cool one I'd been using from work.
For $300 bucks, I picked up this little Samsung netbook. I just got finished setting it up (for the most part). It's so tiny! It has both the "wee" factor and the "whee!" factor.
It took a while to figure out how to shut off the irritating feature that makes the mouse automatically click if your cursor pauses too long over something. Oooh, I hate that!
SL looks kind of cartoony, but I can live with that until I get a big computer again. Congratulations Seven.

I made another home video! This time I bust a move with my dynamically enabled shadow on the viewer. It's still quite buggy and alpha channels go a bit glitchy. Take a look if you're interested http://www.xfire.com/video/1e13c8/

I've never tried this shadow thing. Is it in the standard browser? It must eat up a lot of resources . . . Ya it totally kills my frame rate by at least a half. It's also quite glitchy and you'll notice sometimes the shadows disappear and you just see shadows from my worn prims. A quick rebake seems to bring back my avatar shadow back which I had to do a few times in the vid. I get way better performance on Snowglobe but the Xfire video capturing thing I used only works on the standard viewer. It's totally not something I'd use on a regular basis but Brann was saying in group chat that it would make for some nifty photography. If you wanna give it a try: Ctrl Alt D to enable the advanced menu Debug settings Then set “RenderUseFBO” to True. Then set “RenderDeferred” to True again. If you lose your avatar shadow and only see your attached prim shadows do a ctrl alt r for a rebake and it should come back.

From: Seven Okelli Unfortunately, that $300 netbook is too little. I can't use it. I have to bring it back and get a bigger one.
You go into the Control Panel > Mouse.
Under Device Settings tab, click on the Settings button.
A little window will open. In the left pane of that window, click on "Tapping"
in the right pane, unclick "Enable Tapping". Thank you. I've hated that damn quirky action of the mouse since I got the laptop a few months ago, but I don't use it enough to have figured out how to unset it.

From: Scylla Rhiadra Ok, cool! Thanks for this. I'm sure it could be very useful for photography! It could be if it worked right, but the rendering glitches make it almost useless for photography.

I've had surprisingly few dreams that are about Second Life but last night I did have one.
I was in real life but I'd discovered a way of accessing Second Life without logging in, so that I could go to places without my avatar or nametag, like I was just an anonymous invisible camera! I found myself looking at a place where there were several avatars at a party and one of them was learning a stilt-walking animation. What was clever is that the animation got better each time they tried it!

From: Milla Janick It would be if it worked properly. The graphic glitches severely limit its usefulness. Actually I think it would work quite well with photography despite the glitches, from what I've seen at least. I like how things like trees with alpha channels still cast a shadow which could make for some moody effects in photograpy. All this video and photography stuff I'm still playing with but I think I will use shadows when warranted for taking pics. And fyi, for those trying out xfire, I figured out how to make it recognize alternative viewers so hit me up if you need an explanation.

lol...It took me forever to realize that Silvio Dante was Steve Van Zandt!! From: Kaimi Kyomoon That sounds like an excellent event to attend or participate in. Had you been before this year? I hadn't realized he died - or more likely I forgot.
Kind of a coincidence that today my husband is out of town at a memorial get together for a musician friend who is well known in some small circles. I woke up with a head-ache so I stayed home. (I feel better now, but still not sure if I'm going to get through the day without taking some meds.) I'm glad you're feeling better now, dear!

From: Joshooah Lovenkraft Art Clokey dies at 88; creator of Gumby I often wonder what motivates someone or why they do what they do. From: someone Despite Gumby's positive demeanor, his origins stem from tragedy. When [Art] Clokey was 9, his father was killed in a car crash. He lived with his mother for a while, but when her second husband made her choose between him and her son, Clokey was sent to an orphanage. Fortunately, he was adopted by a good family. But Clokey wouldn't forget his father, whose head shape - characterized by a cowlick hairdo - would later provide the inspiration for Gumby's trademark lopsided head. I had a budgie named Gumby lol. "If you've got a heart, then Gumby's a part of you." RIP in Art Awww... http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1j522_gumbys-first-episode-on-the-moon_funAnd...Eddie Murphy as Gumby. "I'm Gumby, dammit!" I wish i could find that video.

I have one (by Asus), but even using the Rainbow Viewer, it's a bit difficult to navigate in SL. But that little baby sure is handy for traveling. It's powerful enough for everything I need...other than SL.
