The GreenLife viewer has an avatar age coutner too- not the same thing but interesting. ETA- found store name

Do you have a classical education?
06-09-2009 10:10
Don't use Google and see how well you do. You can check the link for answers. I got 7 out of 10. http://timesonline.typepad.com/schoolgate/2009/06/do-you-need-a-better-classical-education-take-our-quiz.htmlThe Classical Quiz 1) Latin expressions often crop up in financial contexts. What does a pro rata salary mean? 2) They also occur in crime fiction. What is a modus operandi? And what, strictly speaking, is an alibi? 3) What do the Girdle of Hippolyta, the Oxen of Geryon and the Apples of the Hesperides have in common? 4) Who were the Greek gods of the sea and of war? 5) What is a Midas touch? And why, in the original story, did it turn out to be a bad thing? 6) The Greek historian Herodotus was so much better than anyone who had gone before that he is considered ‘the father of history’. In the same way other Ancient Greeks are seen as the ‘fathers’ of their particular disciplines. What were the subjects ‘fathered’ by Archimedes, Socrates and Hippocrates? 7) The three classic orders of architecture ranged from the Doric (the oldest and simplest) to the Corinthian (most recent and fanciest). What’s the name of the one in between? If the common people of Rome were called plebeians, what were the aristocracy called? 9) What are the Capitoline and the Palatine? 10) What was the name of the escaped gladiator who put together a vast army of slaves and rebelled against Roman rule in about 73 BC? (Clue: Stanley Kubrick made a film about him.)

The Classical Quiz Not looking so expecting to not hit majority- off the top of my head... 1) Latin expressions often crop up in financial contexts. What does a pro rata salary mean? Hmm- per ... beats me! 2) They also occur in crime fiction. What is a modus operandi? Method of Opertion- or the usual way a thing is done, the pattern a criminal, in this case follows, unconsciously <And what, strictly speaking, is an alibi?> 3) What do the Girdle of Hippolyta, the Oxen of Geryon and the Apples of the Hesperides have in common? Hercules Labors? 4) Who were the Greek gods of the sea and of war?- crap can only thnk of Romans- Poseidon and Mars 5) What is a Midas touch? And why, in the original story, did it turn out to be a bad thing? To turn all things to gold, his daughter was one of the 'things' goldefied. 6) The Greek historian Herodotus was so much better than anyone who had gone before that he is considered ‘the father of history’. In the same way other Ancient Greeks are seen as the ‘fathers’ of their particular disciplines. What were the subjects ‘fathered’ by Archimedes, - Mathematics? Hippocrates - Medicine?? Socrates no idea 7) The three classic orders of architecture ranged from the Doric (the oldest and simplest) to the Corinthian (most recent and fanciest). What’s the name of the one in between? Ionic If the common people of Rome were called plebeians, what were the aristocracy called? Latifundia?- hmm- no that would be the landed folks not necessarily aristocracy... 9) What are the Capitoline and the Palatine? no idea 10) What was the name of the escaped gladiator who put together a vast army of slaves and rebelled against Roman rule in about 73 BC? (Clue: Stanley Kubrick made a film about him.) Clueless, /me... ETA- not too badly - i did think Socrates was philosophy but wasn't sure and was half-assed on the gods- yay for Ionic- that is a hard one to just bump into Paticians is giving me a duh! moment. All in all, /me is content to not be as clueless as i had imagined

From: LittleMe Jewell Hey, I've only chosen badly a couple of times My whole life I have chosen badly. I am beginning to think it's me.It just can't be possible that every man I meet sucks. (With a few exceptions, but they turned out to be friends and nothing more.) They didn't treat me like shit enough I guess to pique my romantic interest in them.

I was the same way for a long time, but it turned out to be worth the trials and tribulations of youth to finally find a good one.

I'm now reading trial transcripts and listening to Irish drinking songs.
I feel like (1) dancing; (2) that my brain has turned to mush.

From: Jerboa Haystack A movie!? I have dibs on this guy playing me. Wait... that guy doesn't look like a mouse at all... From: Jerboa Haystack I don't think Robert Jordan even had an ending in mind. I gave up on the series after book seven or so, You're good. I only made it to the third book before I decided all the main characters were too annoying. From: Jerboa Haystack Donaldson..I read the Thomas Covenant stuff, but I had a hard time with it. I kept yelling at the pages "I get it..you're a leper. Ok..now stop whining and DO something!" Yeah that. Again, main character too annoying. Anyone tried Kage Baker's novels about The Company? They're good!

From: Amaranthim Talon Wow- Zelazny- haven't read any in a million years! I remember them (Amber) only vaguely. Wow, me too... maybe not a MILLION years, but the teenage years sometimes feel that far in the past! From: Amaranthim Talon Right now I am reading a collection of shorts with Asimov in the title somehow- I somehow never got round to reading Asimov until a couple years ago when I picked up the Foundation trilogy. Amazing work... if I didn't know better they could have been written today. For the most part he left the "technology" vague enough to be nearly timeless. Great stuff.
