Ok...I'm looking for a little advice.

If, hypothetically, one were to find oneself with a weekend free. Oh...for the sake of argument, say in late April...

And one were to consider visiting NYC for the first time...with the primary intent of catching a show (which one doesn't matter)...

what would be a good strategy? Hotel in midtown and walk...further out and take a cab...other...?

Which shows are hot right now? This person would probably lean toward something other than a revival or PTO, as those would be familiar to said imaginary traveler.

And, since this is purely a thought experiment, suppose this imaginary soul was a 6-7 hour drive from the city. Drive? Commuter flight?

Hypothetically speaking of course. :)

Went to New York once and loved staying in a little boutique hotel just a few blocks from the theatre district. It was nice being in that location so we could get out a walk around easily. Not sure what is hot right now. I don't even know what was hot when we were there a couple of years ago. I had my heart set on finally seeing Phantom of the Opera live and that is what we did -- and it was absolutely awesome.

I recommend this website:

http://www.newyorkcitytheatre.com/

My boss saw Wicked last time she was there and said it was pretty good. Jersey Boys is supposed to be pretty good as well.

If you're talking about being 6-7 hours away, I highly recommend a commuter flight.
My boss stayed at The Muse, very nice, but oh, so very pricey. A little googling will get you some nice hotels, but the sticker shock may hurt ;)

And I have a freakin all-hands meeting for 2 damn hours today where they get to remind us of our furlough day and tell us probably all the normal crap about needing to work smarter and harder with less, and then they'll try to turn it in to some sort of rah-rah session to attempt the impossible moral boost.

Oh, I know those types of meetings...the ones that end with you wondering if "going postal" would qualify you for long term disability.
