Ok...I'm looking for a little advice.

If, hypothetically, one were to find oneself with a weekend free. Oh...for the sake of argument, say in late April...

And one were to consider visiting NYC for the first time...with the primary intent of catching a show (which one doesn't matter)...

what would be a good strategy? Hotel in midtown and walk...further out and take a cab...other...?

Which shows are hot right now? This person would probably lean toward something other than a revival or PTO, as those would be familiar to said imaginary traveler.

And, since this is purely a thought experiment, suppose this imaginary soul was a 6-7 hour drive from the city. Drive? Commuter flight?

Hypothetically speaking of course. :)
NYC is soooooo yesterday! With the US$ strong against Sterling and the Euro and air travel/tourist rates pressed by recession I would go for it and get a package deal for London, Rome or Paris - ah, Paris in the Spring!!!

Pep (Les Miserables in London, Il Re Nudo in Rome or Folies Bergere in Paris)

Tempting...oh so tempting...

If it weren't for that pesky time thing. I have to fit the trip in on the weekend. Leave Friday afternoon, return Sunday night. *sigh*

edit: Um...I mean...said hypothetical imaginary person would have to fit the trip in. :o

@Jerry. Don't stay in The City. Stay in Jersey. If you are driving, you can get a place in the central part of the State, take a train into The City, and be closer to that "person" you are referring to.Look into places in the Parsippany/Morristown area. It's surrounded by all the major highways and about less than a hour by train into The City.

Hell, I did a day trip to San Francisco from London once.

I always thought a Friday to Sunday was the perfect time frame for a trip to NY - much longer than that and the tourist crowds there get to me.

They have not really lowered the prices much on business class and I cannot stand to fly for that long in coach.

(yes, I have become a travel snob)

Same here. If it's more than an hour or so flight, I go first class or not at all.Unless there is a pressing time factor, if it is withing a day's drive, I drive or sometimes take the train. I love the actual flying, but airports and airlines have become absolute horror shows, I avoid them at all costs.

It is :)

Just checking ;)

Now, back on topic. Is there really a topic here? Anyways, I used to live in NY many moons ago and loved being there in the winter. I love the cold weather. You can find some reasonable places outside the city and take the subway to Grand Central Station... you can walk from there to pretty much anywhere.
