RE: Cliques. I am convinced after watching a few weeks of clique accusations on another forum unrelated to SL that the people who scream most about being outsiders need to find therapy, Jesus, or get a Cat to fill that "I suffer from not being liked/accepted" cross they carry. Now, I am sure we all have a little of that feeling inside but the ones who go out to destroy something with accusations of cliques and/or secret societies have issues that a forum will not fix. At least not social forums.

RE: Another forum.. I am just putting the idea out. Sounds like there are options out there ready to take it if it is even needed. We are so vague on LL specifics that the Yahoo answers things may be in world in the browser and not in this forum at all. Who knows what LL thinks or how far ahead they do? I am not trying to start a coup.. I just know for a fact some people I care about here will not post at the other place and if that means seeing another forum (without designs of SL domination or another forum's competition, which was my main reason for saying keeping it small) crops up.. so be it. That place should be work safe for people who I see get concerned across the street on certain picture postings. That was all I am getting at.

RE: Red or silks. Erm.... Let's just say SL is a place full of win when it comes to sexy. I am not a big silk fan, nor oddly enough a fan of red.. but the two together (and possibly the way it looked hanging on her) was a great combo. :D

Lula.. beautiful card, thanks. :)

Maureen: The skin is getting close. I cannot believe how many freaking hours I have put into this thing when it is based of someone else's (Eloh's) skin base. I have learned some cool techniques from graphics sites on how to add some things I wanted to (like facial stubble). It has been a more challenging but more educating project then that zombie skin. That silly Zombie skin had over 400 given away in SL alone. And that with no advertising. Sadly most of that came from OnRez. XStreet on the other hand only worked to give a few away. (hugs ya)

Rest of ya and those above.. HUGS!

Madhu, congrats on the career change. so? what are you changing to? if i had had the forethought and $$ a few years back, i totally would have wanted to be a lawyer. but no way i'm committing to that sort of schooling now.
And I can SO imagine you as a lawyer - defending the downtrodden (but not too guilty) probably.

From: Madhu Maruti
I'm going into technical writing. I'm hoping it has all the things I liked about patent law and none of the things I didn't like. I don't regret being an attorney - there's a lot to recommend it for a smart person who likes to be challenged - but there's a lot of pressure and crap to go with it too. A very mixed kind of career (isn't everything though!).
I've had several friends who were technical writers. There aren't many things the world needs more than people who can clearly explain complicated stuff.

I really ahould take some wearing some of your stuff.
*squirming* I should make some new stuff. Waiting for a decent avatar mesh just isn't getting me anywhere. I just got a fairly large pile of other SL projects to work on this morning but still...

Ok, next. Brenda, I certain agree about advertising. I know it has it's place, but it's gotten so out of hand (in RL) in my opinion. The ads that are full of half truths, if not outright lies, and seem to be trolling for suckers, make me cringe.
What kills me is every time you buy a can of spinach (ugh canned spinach but for example)Of the $1.00 you pay $.01 goes to the farmer who grew the spinach, $.15 to the cannery, and $.84 to the guy who thought up the advertisements that fooled you into buying it even though you think canned spinach is disgusting.

Apparently it isn't as easy to fool us as it once was and what with all of us fast forwarding past the tv ads anyway, I've read that product placement is getting increasingly popular. (I'd rather see Simon and Paula drinking out of a Coke cup than sit through an ad for the stuff.)

Focusing on this Undying Thread, it is understandable that people perceive a clique here; there are so many historical in-jokes that are not explained (or in some cases are not even explicable) that it is inevitable that newcomers are likely to feel excluded, or even alienated. And of course, it is the only thread here that has that characteristic, since the other threads in RA are almost all ephemeral - pace the Sales thread which has a different sort of momentum.

But if you look at other non-sl forums (no, not the other side of the road) you will find the same charges being laid against longstanding participants by those who can't be bothered to obey the first rule of social forum (not Q&A boards) participation; read as much as you can before posting so you don't make too much of a fool of yourself when you do dive in.

There is of course a disjunct with the culture of the rest of the Q&A threads in RA which isn't necessarily perceived by occasional participants, and the habit of Undying Threadies emerging to derail ridiculous or already terminated threads is (understandably) not necessarily appreciated by everyone. :D

There is no clique here; there *are*gangs (LOLCATZ LUVVERS- ewww!) and "special interest groups" (Fangs for the mammary?) but I see the factions as generally contributing to the community in whatever way they can best. That is what keeps it going . . .

Damn it. I've never seen an accusation revolving around secret societies in these forums. Which makes me sad, because I'd appreciate the lolz.

Unless it's about the Illuminati.

I'm with you again, Mac. I've been making skins based on just about all the free templates out there. They're just for taking fashion shots of my clothes so don't have to be all that perfect but it is still very tricky and time consuming.

You must search in the WAY back machine. ;)

Search term: FIC

This could lead to a blog. Careful soul sucking and hilarity often coexist there.

Ah, FIC. Gotcha. That was also one person's crazytown, from what I understand. But yes, his participation predates me.

New comers to any situation do best if they assume an attitude of trying to learn the ropes until they really have learned them.

Now see.. this is all in perspective. I do consider you part of the crowd. In-crowd.. I don't see an in-crowd. I am with your thought.. everyone contributes in some way that makes the thing work. The whole board is supposed to be a "community". There are the Chip Midnight's who more often are offering tips and not delving too deep into the areas other then content creation and then those that seem to exist in every area and accepted by them all. Everyone is part of the crowd though. Maybe some are tighter in groups then others, but if others have a need to break into or break down that tighter group then they have something they need to deal with on a personal level.

RA is a small part of the board as a whole. Down there in the foreign language areas I wonder if they are calling some group of wise asses a clique. :D

Totally tricky!! My hat is off to skin creators. I will never ever ever again wonder why they charge X lindens for a quality skin.. nor wonder why they can be so angry when that work is ripped by a program and passed out as freebies.

((((Kaimi))))) extra hug back.
