I saw where some Government type was telling people basically to not return to Galveston....ever. Awful.

Tex all my best goes out to you and the folks and Texas. Imagine I am crying just because my Intenet is still disabled. "CX"

Hiya CX, this might sound a bit odd, but Ike hitting Texas was only fair. Our friends and neighbors over in Lousianna have seen more than their share over the last few years. If anyone did, you folks deserved a break, although I understand the western parts of Lousianna got a good bit of wind and water again with Ike.

I know that there is no shortage of hurricane damage picks on the web but this link is to a good selection of pictures. There are some before and after picks that give an idea of the extent of the damage, so I thought I'd share it here for anyone that might be interested.

http://www.tpicks.com/pictures%20people%20have%20sent%20me.html

WOW! what devastation. i mean, the fish in the fence.... that leaves all sorts of scenerios swirling around in my mind. whole lives - whole families- displaced. pictures, momentos, memories.... washed away. how many domestic pets perished? where will all the families go. what will they do now. if they can even find it, can they get any of their stuff from those piles? tragic. all of it. so sad.

also, i saw some foolishness:

You have my sympathy! I had a mild dose of this while wearing contacts and then, of course, it got worse after LASIK surgery to both eyes. I thought--hoped--I would get over it after complete recovery from surgery, but I still keep a fresh plastic vial of the sterile artificial lubricant with me wherever I go (I'm allergic to the preservatives in ordinary lubricant solutions). Also, low brightness, low lights, sunglasses, though not as severe as yours sounds. I've learned to squeeze one eye at a time so hard that I tear up, when for some reason--like driving--I can't fiddle with the drops and that seems to bring on enough moisture to relieve the discomfort. I hope plugging that duct works for you.

You really have to dig when researching LASIK--the surgeons do not tell you about the dryness--and it turns it that it is a VERY common consequence of the surgery, since the surgery severes the little nerves that are in the cornea to tell your tear system to moisten more.

From: LittleMe Jewell
I really wish a potion would fix it. I basically started off dealing with extreme dry eye condition (probably from the lasik years ago). Extreme dry eye sometimes results in an severe sensitivity to light of any kind. The doctor has now plugged one of my tear ducts and will be plugging the other eye in a few weeks - and I really really hope that that solves the issues (plugging one has at least helped a little bit).

It is funny in a way -- I have my monitor turned down on brightness, I keep the lights off in the rooms that I am in, and I wear really expensive sunglasses anywhere that I do not have control over the lighting. I get teased a lot about trying to be a prima donna, but I just figure 'whatever works so that I can still see the world'.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you a tough person. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

Like anyone confronted with the harshness of robbery on the high seas, you can be pessimistic at times. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

ETHEL!!! Oh for Pete's sake! I'll keel haul the blighter! String 'im from a yard arm- aye! Arrrr!

My sister experienced the same dryness, too.

Hi Govindira, and welcome to the thread! :) And wow! - an SL resident who's been here 4 1/2 years! In honor of your first posting in this thread:

Of course I'm way too virtuous to be a Pirate  so I passed on the Quiz. I'm more likely to be the one searching the highs seas, looking to bring you scurvy bastards to justice.
