From: Rebecca Proudhon Kill Kel'Thuzad This is probably the most offensive thing I've ever read on this or any forum. and considering all the places that this thread has gone, that's saying a lot. Responding to a war vet who by telling them to go play your game to learn about battle fatigue is just disgusting. I'm so sickened and angered that I don't know whether to go throw up or beat someone with a rusty tire chain. It would have been less offensive to suggest the OP join her new neighbors. I've never been in the military myself, but attitudes like this make me start to wish service was mandatory.

Have a chuckle I'm not one to generalize or stereotype or anything, but we can tell one thing from that picture. People who are into bestiality sure do have awful haircuts. Geesh. He looks like a young Tom Petty. You're right, Bradley. Sorry I went off there. Sometimes I see stuff and I think about how much pain I saw my father deal with and how his experience shaped not only his life, but the lives of my mom and his children, and I just pop a gasket when it is trivialized like that. I'm ok now. I should have stayed calmer. Besides, in context, that picture is hilarious.

From: Trout Recreant Of course. And I'm sure we agree that those do not equal WoW related stress. Rebecca - you still aren't close. Biological changes in heavily addicted war gamers do not equal the sorts stress related issues that soldiers bring back from the war. To compare the stress that a soldier undergoes when they spend 24 hours a day for months on end sleeping in the dirt, fearing for their lives, watching their friends die and having to make the life-altering decision to take another human life time and time again to the stress that a WoW player undergoes playing a computer game is extremely insulting and disrespectful to the soldier. If you want to argue that games like WoW have been shown to cause chemical changes in the body amongst intense users and may lead to stress related illnesses as a result, then that's an argument I'll agree with. But to compare it to real life battle stress? No way. I have seen people myself. And there is ample evidence that in *some* people they are in just the same state as real world battle fatigue. My point is not to insult war veterens and it is silly to suggest that is what I am doing. *Some,* especially young people immersed in Warcraft or other battle games, 10 hours a day for years do have all the symptoms of battle fatigue----even their mind may not know the difference---but their body really doesn't know. It's total immersion. Why is this so inconceivable? Some of the raiding guilds operate as total military outfits, with severe discipline as well, which adds to the stress. in some cases the leaders of some of these guilds I have known were active military in IRAQ at the time and were browbeating 15 year olds into complete submission. One mistake everyone "dies." Here's a classic audio, ventrillo WOW recording, set to a video someone made on You tube that gives an idea of what happens in wow. there are thousands of wow videos on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtvIYRrgZ04 Here is another classic video on a Funeral being held when someone died in Real life and during the Funeral they were ambushed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TSGUf1xbF8&feature=related

From: Alice Katayama From: Marianne McCann So I have to ask: what sort of options do I have here, as a land owner? Further, what would be the *right* thing to do to mitigate the situation? Mari From: someone
I would put up a very cute white picket fence with a kid zone sign along it, please behave, in crayon would be best.
I know that is a bit lame but it should cut down most of the casual users.
This is perfect. Most people with kinks run a mile from any chance they might encounter someone playing a kid when they are doing their thing, but it fits in with someone playing a kid. Nothing personal but I'd be horrified to be next to a kid place. @ Rebecca: If they had active service as a background, the active service was the causation not any given game ... surely? My ex in SL had "issues" which I personally put down to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

At least they die for 5 minutes. I play MMOs. I've done the all-day raids. I've seen week-long plans wipe. Anger and stress, all that. In real life I have been on the wrong end of a gun from a shaking, scared kid. There is no comparison. Not even a little bit. When you play a MMO you worry about lost time, or losing a spawn, or having to log before you can go back. You don't worry about never seeing the people you love again. Don't believe all that hype. Thats just a bunch of crap to get ratings. Real life and death situations and what happens in MMOs are not the same thing at all.

From: Chris Norse You are the one making the claim, it is upon you to provide the proof. Killing an animated orc is not the same as taking a human life, it never will be. By the way, your PDF does not back up your claim that video games equate to life on the battlefield. What I am saying is that there are *some* young people---many of them actually ---who for all intents and purposes know nothing but WOW-----show battle fatigue symtoms. Wow and other war simulators are their life. They sleep through everything else. I've known too many of them personally. This is all new stuff. Professionals have been studying them, done brain chemistry studies, hooked them up to EEG's, EMGs and other monitoring devices and have seen the same kinds of changes that take place in *some* people in real combat. That AMA PDF is a general statement aimed at making video game addiction a fundable mental problem----so they can do more study. It's a very really issue and it will become more well known as these virtual battlefields become even more populated. Some years back it became official that domestic abuse along with other kinds of torture also cause the similar types of long term, physical and mental effects and battle fatigue and "shell shock." I am not reducing real world battle fatigue, by saying this, but people need to stop minimizing effects of war in virtual reality because the effect can be severe on young people.

For normal people what you are saying is usually true, but just like the original topic of this thread it pertains to *some* people. And some people Do think they won't ever see them again---and sometimes they never do---they get kicked from a guild that is their entire purpose in life.
