Im crashing Whole Sims! (serious!)... taking requests (joke!!!)

Anyone else reading this think an option on the login screen to "Detach ALL before login" would be a good idea?

I hope you slapped the Linden that told you that being able to crash a sim was NOT an exploit. I know you won't name names, but do pass this message on to him/her next you speak to them, please.

Tell them that we, the Residents, think that is the most idiotic comment we have ever heard in the history of cyberspace.

It may not be "abuse", as in this case where it is a problem with the account, but it is deffinantly an exploit.

Good luck, and file a Support Ticket if you haven't already. Strife letting LR know will prolly get the ball rolling faster, but I'd be making as many waves down legitimate channels as you can.

Jessica thanx, i have opened a support ticket and have been 'referred to the designers' whatever that means.... I have, as suggested crashed the 'crash me' sim and IMed Dan Linden... if there are any other 'wave' channels you can suggest, please let me know, i want to let as many people know as is possible, this is costing me money!!

I honestly dont think its anything I have attatched to me, unless something has become corrupt, because I didnt attatch anything unusual, in fact, i didnt attatch anything at all in the hour before I crashed originally...

So yeah... what other noises and waves can I make?... I will happily follow all suggestions. (legitimate ones that is)

This is totally grasping at straws, but... I wonder if you could test with a whole different platform, like Linux. It shouldn't help, but one never knows. The other crazy thought would be to use the libSL "client" (or, less dramatic but less likely to help, the Nicholaz viewer). All operating on the fairly desperate premise that there's something fatally flawed in the messaging between viewer and sim, triggered by something associated with your specific avatar.

Hmmm... I cant test it on another platform, i dont have one to test it on

It seems like you've tried all the standard remedies. And, your Alts don't crash the sims.

So, it's got to be something with your account. It might be that your Inventory folders are corrupted, or your Avi is somehow corrupted.

Either way, I'm afraid you're at the mercy of the Lindens to fix it for you.

hmmmm....My army could use someone with your "talents". Join us, help us take over SL, and I will give you control of 25% of the grid.

Long long loooooong shot, but you may try going into preferences between your alt and your main, seeing if something is set different, or maybe just lowering everything on main to bare min specs.

A completel unistall/reinstall will also reset your prefs to what LL's system "thinks" is the best for your system. imo, that "suggested" settings are a bunch of crap. Some too high, some way too low. Programs are only as smart as those programming them ^.~

Also, if there is a differnt video setting between your alt and main, you might want to look for graphic driver updates for your graphics card before changing settings. Sometimes LL updates to work with the new versions which break the old ones in wierd ways. I had a constant crash issue where I was crashing only after TPing with the Search UI. Torley helped me on that by pointing out my driver was out of date (after giving him the specs to my system). Once I DLed the new drivers, no more crashes.

Unfortunately, due the the grid impact (ie dropping the sim) I have to think this IS related to you account and a corrupt bit of data somewhere along the line. If you have a Premium account, try opening a Live Chat with Support during LL's buisness hours, or calling their phone line if you have the time (and patients) to hold that long. Phone lines are NOT quick. Put in a good CD to listen to while waiting.

And jessica ty again, i have made sure there are no differences betweent he settings on my alt or my main accounts... yeah, i intend to try the live help in a little while and the phone lines might be an issue... im in the UK.. could be pretty expencive, If i was gonna ring the US, there would need t be someone pretty special on the other end mhm

If you login using another avatar account (one of your alts), it crashes the same?

This could help to know if your avatar is the crashing thing (maybe because some attachment) or your viewer.

She already answered that - no, her Alts don't crash the sims.

Aww, this really sucks! I hope they can fix it for you soon. If it makes you feel any better, I've lost everything in subfolders..from my clothing folder to my objects..so that's pretty much everything!

Well, one could download and extract libsecondlife from (the latest from the "Builds" link) and run the TestClient executable from the Windows command line (need to supply username, password, contact email in the command). In the TestClient, the avatar appears initially as Ruth, but with all the attachments. So, if it's an attachment killing the sims, this will still crash them, but if by any lucky chance, it's a texture, this should work. (I'm not sure what's next if it does; the TestClient avatar can put on a different outfit, but not sure if it "sticks" when logged in again with the regular viewer. But we can try to get clever about that if we manage to get that far.)

If your alts can login no problem from the same PC, then I bet it's inventory related. I hope it's easily fixable by LL, the worse that could happen is a complete loss of inventory. Wish you lots of luck.

Ok there are a few instant crash bugs. some I rather not list

What you need To-Do:

Find Someone who owns a private island
Have them go into estate menu and turn off Physics, Scripts, everything.
Now once they have locked the sim down you login to that sim!

Once there detach everything from your Avie.
This should work in a sim that has physics disabled and scripts.
if your Avie still crashes sims then LL is your last hope

It's 2:30 in California, either they fix it in the next 3 hours or your avie is hosed for the weekend. Time to get more of LL's attention, is it time for guerrilla activity?

How about you crash sims in a pattern so it spells out "Fix my Avie!" when looked at on a zoomed-out map???

Ok, we have Trout use his biplane for good and spell out "SURRENDER SKY'S AVIE" in purple smoke above Linden Village, and if they don't fix it within two hours crash Linden Village.

Ok, over the weekend we all take our avies and arrange them nude against a green or ocean sim so they spell out "Fix Sky's Avie" when photographed from above

The "Sandbox Newcomb" sim is configured that way (last time I checked).

@Jessica: My exploit that wasn't an exploit was an uncaught math error in the LSL VM that resulted in the sim instantly crashing. I was quite insistent that it should be considered an exploit, they discussed it higher up and deemed it not an exploit. They explained the criteria as having to result in content theft or loss. I know they fixed the bug so i know that this isn't it.

Posting exploits will lead to first hand experience with the Linden Justice System; it's not a threat, it's a guaranty. The only unknown is what the punishment would be, it could be anything from a warning to a permanent ban. This isn't something I can shield people from.
