hehehehe I dont care! At all.

But there are who people really seem dead set on claiming that women who wont voice must be RL men. Im just saying plenty of the RL males round here who claim to be men .. arent.

Aha :)

Yes well. I do have some experience with that. My first SL boyfriend disclosed to me that he was really a she a month ago. He, and by that I of course mean she, spent the entire time between that night and today throwing it in my face and trying to show me she's more woman than I am.

QUITE the plot twister - I'll tell ya :) I almost wish I was a guy playing a girl so I could go "GOTCHA"! Then we'd have a real Jerry SLinger episode, woohoo!!

The biggest problem with having an 'idea' of the 'proper' traits is really that we often forget that any fantasy creature can have a voice as varied as what we see here in the real world.

How many times have you met a big, burly male and expected a deep, strong voice ..... only to hear what sounds like a squeak come out of his mouth?

That's true. But again, people _do_ have an idea of the proper traits of the voice of a fictional character - that's just the way it is - and if the Wicked Queen has the same voice as the Fairy Godmother, they write a bad review of the movie.

If every time you meet someone in RP, you have to break out and describe that it's perfectly fine for your mischevous 3-foot pixie to have the voice of a middle-aged harried officeworker and they are wrong for making assumption about the voice such a creature would have and they _ought_ to understand the diversity of voices in fantasy as well as RL and so on.. then you will not be in the RP group. It's not a good idea to say "you're wrong, you ought to.." to social groups you want to join in with.

From: someone
In any event, please read my earlier example (my own character) to see what I mean. The people able to make the most of this are the ones with some voice acting ability.

And everyone else is devastated. As others have said, it's great that you are an actor and can thus practice your voice acting for hours a day because you get PAID for it. Most people aren't in that position, and even a voice actor can't do _every_ voice.

From the way this thread has gone, I doubt Colette would consider you one of the open-minded Voice Users.

Fortunately for me I take her opinion as about as seriously as Prokofy Neva's.

I think I'll live...

/me peeks back at this thread as I crash AGAIN ...

Colette, want me to make you a 'talk to the penguin' sign?

I dount it would do any good.

I just want people to treat those who choose not to voice with respect.

and maybe speak up when they see voicers treating a non-voicer badly.

Instead of pretending like it isnt going to happen - Or telling non-voicers, "tough cookies, mute'm!"

I'm guessing it's pretty rare that a citizen's voice will be recognizednot unless your Jack Nicholson. So, I don't think this argument holds water. No one is going to recognize your voice, and say, "Hey, it's _______ ______, what are you doing in SL!?" If you fear being recognized...then you're a touch too paranoid. That's my opinion.

I've had my voice recognised from other online games, where I do use voice, before. And it's not going to be being recognised in SL that's the worry - it's having someone hear me in SL, and _then_ hear me in RL.

From: someone
Your next issue of "voice fitting the AV" is valid I suppose. But, if you are that concerned about your RL voice not matching your AV, then you should either get a new AV, or get a new voice! :) I'm kidding. Again, I think this particular issue is a small one--if you don't like your RL voice...that is a personal problem. If you honestly don't like it because it doesn't fit your AV...well then make a new AV to fit your voice.

It's easy to say that. But what if I came to SL to play something different from what I am in RL? What if I have spent hundreds of dollars or hours of work building my existing AV, before voice was announced? What about the people selling AV components - are all the fantasy AV sellers about to see their businesses closed down because only the voice actors will be buying from them? And even if I do change... people who've seen me before will remember my past AVs when they hear my voice.

From: someone
Whether we want it or not there is a term called "inter-reality"--this is the blending of virtual/digital content, and the real world. There is no escaping this...again, we must embrace it, and see in it the good. Because Lord knows there is a lot of good in it. Most of you are currently enjoying massive doses of inter-reality, and you don't even know it. Without it...there would be no Second Life.

It's not at all clear why there's "no escaping" this. I'm not seeing it happening in any online games..

Well. I have just been to 0,0,0 and have my hair AND my shoes up my bum.

That for me is far more pertinent than anything else!

That is caused by - among other things - server lag as well as client lag.

Only had that problem twice, both times when going from one very badly lagged server to another, and always when my own machine was running slowly.

Maybe we need a voice "Guardian Angels" group with the berets and buttons and stuff.

I don't know, maybe I'm just so used to being able to deal with my problems on my own without depending "on the kindness of strangahs" that I don't expect people around me to jump in to the rescue when I'm having issues with someone.

Well not quite the same thing but .. hehe.

I mean these guys who harass women to voice. The ones who think someone's personal decisions about voice should be subject for speculation, or accuse us of hiding things.

They dont fit my definition of "Men".

Males? yeah
Guys? yeah
Testosterone poisoned? yeah

It takes more than that to fit my definition of a Man. I guess Im just picky. LOL.

:sighs: I frankly don't care if there's an expectation there for any reason or not. I'm telling you what the issue is with that expectation - period. Move on.

Oh yes - and I never said I was an actor .... Might want to be a little more careful. see, I'm a role Player - done some Live Action role Play too. That's where the voice Acting skill came from.

Now then - are you done being a brick wall? Can we agree to disagree and have you - you know ... shut up and cease attempting to tell me what I already know? Otherwise we'll be going in circles.

expectation for a voice is a problem: That's all there is to it. I really don't care why it's there.

Here's my view on the RP aspect of voice.

In some ways this is another aspect of playing to the lowest common denominator problem that plagues the USA. If you want to really enjoy a story, then which would you prefer; a) read the book and let the whole story unfold in your head, or b) watch the pathetic Hollywood movie adaption?

That's not to say voice doesn't have it's uses. It's great for conversations, business etc, just not for RP.

Welcome to life. You have kind hearted people, and you have jerks - get over it. deal with it in whatever way keeps the problem from coming back.

Pardon me for souding like a jerk here (in all reality it's due to the constant broken record style of your posts on the mater) ... But who cares what you want? People are going to act as they will in second Life - just as in Real Life - deal with it!

some are ging to be nice and use both voice and text (I do), some are going to be real jerks - that's life!

Colette sweetie you might as well just cut your losses here. Mr. Legion over here is just the latest in a long line of "Internet Rambos" who wrestle lions bare-handed and catch bullets with their teeth, never questioning why someone would shoot at them because questions, complaints and concern are for wimps. For that matter so is compassion and understanding.

The only reason we are having problems is because we are weak. Weak of both mind and intestinal fortitude. We just don't have the guts to <insert verb here>. It has nothing to do with what we said our concerns are, so just stop - with your lyin' heart!

You will continue to get nowhere with them until we are talking about what happens to THEM. As long as it's someone else's problem, it's no problem at all.

Please! No rebuttals! To read your words is to react to them, and in my reaction you might discover that this whole time, I was really a Beluga Whale. Oh sh--

considering that you do not know me, you have no right to state anything whatsoever regarding my temperament and attitude when dealing with broken records.

after reading your drivel here ... I won't be giving you the time to see how wrong you are. Instead I'll tell you to visit Help Island Public a bit more often and see for yourself.

Better idea: You should drop the broken record and 'no one understands what I'm saying' bit and do what everyone else in life does: Get over it, take what steps need to be taken and move on.

sheesh.

It's possible that it's not a problem for us because we don't let it become a problem. You're kinda proving my earlier point about how both sides just want to keep arguing without admitting any of the points raised in this thread.

Being angry must be fun for you!

As for the gay porn remark...that was kinda funny, actually...

there were about 5 people saying the same thing. And a lot of other people have for MONTHS.

I responded to each consistantly.

So of course I sound like a broken record. Becuase Im consistant on this issue

You have done likewise to remarks made to you. You've been cosistant.

If I spent the same number of posts agreeing with the same people (and you) I doubt you would tell me Im such a broken record.

If im talking too much for your tender eyes. Mute me.

After all thats the advice you have for the people who get harrassed.
