So the grid bombs two nights in a row, almost certainly related to voice support being rolled onto the server farm. Begs the question, is voice the feature we're all waiting for?

Yes? No? Same question asked over and over?

The grid bombs, a lot. It happens. Updates go awry all of the time. Voice is rolling out, it's bound to be difficult. Some people want voice, some people don't, some people are indifferent. Second Life will never work as well as it could because issues never get fixed. Hell, they are so busy focusing on this kind of stuff, we can't even have unique last names anymore. The only thing I miss about my old account was when I last searched, there was maybe *maybe* 15 of them. It sucks, but ahh well...

Voice is what it is, and unfortunately what people want or don't want doesn't seem to matter. The game has to be the next greatest thing, a tool for businesses, so that those businesses come to LL's business, and create more business for the businessmen. >.>

No, I do not want voice, I want Linden lab to fix the game before they even THINK of new ideas.

It's not good to have a really broken product and add more brokenness into it.

Well my experience with voice so far has been good and so yes I do want it.

I think people will be complaining about the chatterbox window though.

Oh yes they call it "BLEEDING EDGE" Oh yes that is right. because game keeps hurting you with crashes, broken and or lost objects, Oh yes its BLEEDING EDGE. it keeps killing its users off!........

As for Voice image what the hell is going to happen when atleast 1/3 of say 50,000 online ( if we even reach that level ) people are using it at one time.......... If you think these past 2 days were bad...............You have not seen anything.

Given the rest of the behavior on SL, I have no doubt that I will have it turned off all the time. I believe most people will only enable it when they are doing something specific. It will be a tool too easily abused.

Will the ratings work for it? Will language in PG areas really be PG? Of course not. It is a new griefer tool. Reading what some people say is bad enough, but having other people in my house hear it?

Imagine spam? The possibilities of abuse are endless, and yes, no doubt I'll be able to mute people, but like any other scenario it takes little effort to log onto one of their other 20 alts. It'll take no time for someone to automate it and every spinning porno ad will be talking dirty to passersby.

Given the multitude of other things that needed to be done, I don't understand why they thought the resources were best used for voice. I'd much rather have decent ankles, frankly...

I am one of those "corporation types" and I can tell you that we definitely DO NOT want voice. Voice is posing an even larger security risk to what is an extremely insecure platform; and Linden Labs is seems to be spending more time on dubious bells and whistles such as voice instead of focusing on foundational issues such as stability and security and better group functions. They really have sold us a total piece of garbage with voice.

There might be people who want voice. Most residents rather not, judging from forum threads and blog posts. Who knows. I'm not against new features, even if I personally won't use them, but I'm totally against using the life grid as a beta test environment.

The update that ruined the grid (once again) was done "In order to improve the voice experience". For a beta viewer, on the life grid, right before the weekend. I don't understand how a service provider can act this irresponsible.

Is there really no legal way to squeeze refunds out of LL? Advertising + tier costs for 2 days: $80, approx. loss of sales: $500. Getting back the ad + tier costs would already help a lot, not to compensate me but to educate LL. Some businesses only provide sufficient service when it financially hurts them if they don't. Well, LL will learn that too when a competitor shows up.

I find it repulsive that they ran rolling restarts so the voice client could be tested. Especially as a sim owner and having the feeling of do what i choose, apperently that is not the case even though i paid LL 1700$ and monthly tier. maybe i should feel privledged for these inconviences, currently i do not. I wish voice was an option that we could disable as sim owners, and i wish the rest of the issues ( asset servers, etc) would get fixed first before new roll outs.

I really don't care about voice one way or the other as a feature but for goodness sake work on the fix FIRST!!! Test the things yourself, then put them on the Beta Grid and FINALLY, after EVERYTHING has been exhausted, release it to the Live Grid.

Do they even read this forum? Do they care what the MAJORITY of their CUSTOMERS want? I say no on both counts. They're pandying to a smaller than small minority and I'm not even sure, from the last post, that that minority even wants these things.

I don't want a competitor - I want a working Second Life that's less stressful (for the most part) than the real one I'm trying to escape.

Please, for the love of prims, fix what you're breaking first!

Voice will be wonderful.

Everyone will use it all the time, get together and sing Kumbaya ..

Lag will disapear ..
Griefers will turn their sim destroyers into karaoke machines ..
Noobs will stop begging for sex ..
No one will ever camp again..
Bad builds? Ad farms? History!
The Landbots will marry the electric sheep ..

Peace Love and harmony ..

If LL doesn't change the communicate window, most of that will be true regardless of voice since there's hardly any space left to see the world or experience lag :p.

The communicate window is part of the new voice feature, the voice feature being the topic.

I'll be honest, I want a game by a different company exactly like Second Life but better, this way LL will have competition and will get off there asses and fix the bugs instead of adding useless broken features.

The only feature I've welcomed recently is Sculpted Prims.

I did a blog that contains all my experience with using voice over the last week at http://www.your2ndplace.com/node/273 But my over all thoughts from someone originally against voice...

My overall first impression of voice..... I like it more than I thought I would, and although I will seldom use it myself, I like having the option there, I like listening, and I think it will be a good tool for education and so on. In the end we will choose if we use it or not and it's not something that we have to participate in. I guess when it becomes part of the main grid we will get a real feel for how this will effect us as a community.

Maybe someone will see everything on SL that falls short and get a clue :)

What amuses me, is the amount of indecent people on this game. Alot of people have no respect for others. Can you imagine the amount of people that can be hurt by this feature and the amount of people that can abuse the powers of it.

Ranging from sexual to terrorism and whats even better!!!!

There is no evidence of it unless someone is recording. Again, can you match the voice to the avatar?

Absolutely correct - people think things are bad now - Just wait !

We will reach whole new levels of disrespect in several areas.

Ohh - ooops - I mean everything will be wonderful, all the time ..
