Self appointed forum mods....

My title says it all....

to be blunt Im bored of those people who say

'havent you tried slx'

or 'theres such and such a forum for this.'

Why dont you people apply to be forum mods if it worries you that much ?

It seems to me that theres a little clique about which wants to control who says what here....

I do the second one.. and I have volunteered. Takes time to be one if you ever even get accepted, my friend

I have suggested other forums to people, but only when someone asks, "where is the general discussion forum?" Unfortunately, there isn't one of those here.

How about a 'meglomaniacs chance to shout petty rules and play at being a 'jobsworth' in virtual reality' forum?

Well if I am it's long overdue.... there have been several instances of people posting questions in a thread which one would expect to ask question in being put down by people telling them theres another forum for their thread....

The reason we ask people to post in the correct forums is so that our ResMod, Strife might not have quite as much work moving things around.. far as I know he is the only moderator at prsent. We also do it to generaly keep the forums unclutered of things that belong someplace else, because they are already full of random crap (At least RA is).

lol! Maelstrom, I think its an artifact of this factoid: despite many volunteers and much pressure, LL is reluctant to appoint any more resmods. So, people are just trying to help.

It's not a clique, because the people who do it are not particularly tight with each other, and I'm betting that no one ever gets together in PM or inworld to discuss forum threads, thank god! It's just a bunch of disparate people desperately trying to nudge folks into following the rules as laid out in the stickies, in the absence of enforcement.

I'm sure people who do this think of it as good citizenship.

Edit: My particular sin: I have a tendency to post a reference to a recent thread answering a person's question, with the heading "search is your friend". I've always wondered, is that obnoxious?

Isn't directing people to the forum/url in which they are most likely to find the information they seek anything more than help? That's what people are seeking after all.

I certainly think of it as a good deed.. its not to annoy people, its to alert them of forums for curent and future use since they apparently don't know of them.. if they do know and abuse other forums then thats just bad....

This thread fails quality control, as it does not make a "freedom of speech" complaint, which would at least give people the opportunity to get their teeth into... er... an ultimately unsatisfactory and pointless political, and perhaps eventually ontological, argument. But a bit of "OMG FREEDOM OF SPEECH" would entertainingly stereotypical.

Normally Im pretty light hearted and love good amusing banter but it seems to me that some people here jsut love trying to blast threads out of the water.

I get the feeling sometimes to that certain people are targeted for their views and deliberate attempts to derail their threads made.

Curiously no one attempts to tug down the people who seem to do this.

Once a question has been answered, you're right, noone stops the derailment. But the answer is there. There are very very rare threads where it isnt answered.. and thats not good butit is truly rare

And if the thread starts off bad, people just keep it bad and flame a bit

Im just tired of people attacking other peoples threads needlessly. All it says to me is 'you posted in the wrong place..or what you posted didnt suit me..and now Im going to sneer down my nose at you because of it.'

One thing I have to agree with you on are the comments that it's already been discussed in another thread. There's nothing wrong with gently directing people to a recent thread that had the same question but it's usually followed by some snide remark about using search (which is useless) or "This has been done to death".

The done to death one is the one that really pisses me off. This is a resident answers forum and I think there should be a presumption that new people will be logging in every day. Be easy on these poor folks.

Aside from that there's nothing wrong with directing people to post in the correct forum, giving descriptive titles or other things that make the forums easier for everyone to use. It's all a matter of how it's done not if it should be done.

I disagree with you on the clique comment. Any perception of a clique is that..perception. I'd go further but it's already been discussed to death.

The Lindens say this forum is for resident answers only (which isn't really much of a reason) and more significantly if a forum requires too much attention on their end it gets shut down, something they've done on several occasions.

Best not to give them an excuse...
