I'm trying the "remove IMs in console chat" feature. It seems that this hides IMs from nearby scripted objects, and possibly llSay, llWhisper, and llShout output as well. It only shows chat from avatar typing nearby. Is that about right?
I'd like to see the chat from nearby scripted objects as well, at least the stuff that nearby scripted objects put out for everyone to see. Some games for instance, rely on chat and IMs from nearby scripted objects to work properly.
It would also be nice to be able to open the chat history window without having the console chat vanish. Chat console for the current output, chat history to look back at the stuff you missed or forgot. No missing the current output in order to look back.
It sure is nice to see the nearby chat without the Group and private IM chat stuff in it without having to have a chat window with a border and scroll bars up. I've wanted this for years.

It only shows chat from avatar typing nearby. Is that about right? Absolutely not. It only hides IMs from other avatars, not from objects, and it does not hide any llSay/llWhisper/llShout from any origin. I'd suggest you to check for your mute list...

Avatars and groups.
Excellent!
I probably managed to try it at a time and place that didn't have any such chat.
Thanks a bunch for this change. Now if I could just figure out where to go for a nice stream of local chat and
I really have been wanting this for years, literally.
I'm at the Shelter now, a perfect place to test this and experience how nice it is.
It's real good.
Now if I could make myself turn off the other monitors I might get immersed.

I edited this Wiki page as it had erroneous info. Note also that mega prims can be created with the Cool SL Viewer on OpenSim grids.

From: Henri Beauchamp I edited this Wiki page as it had erroneous info. However, someone has edited it back, it seems: http://wiki.secondlife.com/w/index.php?title=Mega_Prim&diff=138372&oldid=138282

From: Innula Zenovka However, someone has edited it back, it seems: Yes, the original author did it apparently. But they just removed the false argument that I dismantled with my explanation, about mega prims causing lag. They did not touch to my other edits either.

Hi Henri,
I wonder if you can answer this question: Is it possible for me to create a second installation of Second Life on my PC (Windows Vista) and apply the Cool SL Viewer patch to that leaving my original installation untouched?
Thanks!

Thanks! Hi Kaeda, yes you can. But you can of course not run the Linux version in Windows . What you should do: 1) create a new folder, call it Cool Viewer (or something else) in your Program Files folder 2) Copy all files from your existing SecondLife folder into the new one 3) Download the Cool Viewer for Windows archive from my blog (URL below) 4) Extract the CV archive over the new folder with the copied files, and make sure to replace all existing files of the same name (it should ask you for conformation to overwrite) 5) Start CV from the new folder with the SecondLife.lnk shortcut Good luck, Boy http://my.opera.com/boylane

Okay, Cool SL Viewer works better than LL's standard one, but I still have this hiccup that occurs every now and then. CoolView says that the problem is images loading, what does that mean and how can I fix it? Because it doesn't just affect SL, it causes my whole computer to freeze for a second.

@Lance It's not even a RC.....or whatever RC0 means . Henri plays with it and has some issues. I don't really see a point in the moment to burn time with it.

CoolView says that the problem is images loading, what does that mean and how can I fix it? Because it doesn't just affect SL, it causes my whole computer to freeze for a second. Yes, these annoying freezes were back with v1.20 and got even worst with v1.21 (while they pretty much disappeared in v1.19.0.5). The good news is that v1.22 seems a bit less prone to freezes (but they still happen). My recommendation is: if you find the freezes too annoying, either relog when they happen (they seem closely related to the memory leaks), or go back to the Cool SL Viewer v1.19.0.5: this one is rock solid and will work for hours without a glitch (its only problem is the occasional crash on startup, sometimes), and will not leak memory like v1.2x versions do... It is also faster on older computers (the ones with a single core CPU) but may be slightly slower on modern computers.

From: Lance Corrimal ...anytime soon? I built a pre-release version, the good news being that all the patches used in the Cool SL Viewer could easily be adapted to v1.22. The bad news is that v1.22 broke the building system for public releases (i.e. binaries using LL's provided libraries). So I might wait for RC1 before making a public Cool SL Viewer v1.22 release.

64bit?

Any chance you might have mercy on all us 64bit users and compile a CV64?

From: Steely Carver Any chance you might have mercy on all us 64bit users and compile a CV64? Not as long as LL themselves don't support 64bits viewers... and they are not going to do so any time soon from what I saw in the sldev mailing list. The cited reasons are that: - 32bits viewers run perfectly fine on 64bits Linux platforms as long as the 32bits compatibility libraries are installed on these platforms. - There is no speed benefit at all from running a 64bits viewer over a 32bits one. - SL Linux users are few and 64bits Linux users are even fewer, and LL can't afford spending time on 64bits source compatibility issues and on 64bits binaries/libraries production/maintenance. To be fair, I do think the above reasons are good ones and quite sensible. Even I, with now a quad core main computer, am still using 32bits Linux because of the many issues 64bits installations still got with older (or even sometimes newer) software. For example, I did build a 64bits Gentoo system on one of my partitions, just to notice that many software pieces I needed were still marked as not 64bits compatible.

Oh, bummer. I would think there would be a speed increase since SL does a lot of rendering.
Well, it's running fine on openSuse 11.0 64bit. Haven't had any problems at all, so I guess I'll just use what I have.
Thanks for all the good work you do.

From: Henri Beauchamp The Cool SL Viewer v1.20.10.0 release 1 is available for download for Linux from http://sldev.free.fr/New in this _experimental_ release: - More skin reversal (un-dazzling). - The "All (old)" search tab and the old style Groups search tab have been reinstated. - A new patch for "muting" attached lights (for example face lights) and particles emitters has been added Is this muting patch still in the latest versions? I can't find an option to turn it on or off.

Saving and loading scripts in v1.21.
11-28-2008 07:17
SaveLoadScripts_v2 (by JB Kraft. Not yet ported to v1.21): allows to save and load scripts from the script editor to local file systems
Is this likely to be ported to v1.21 any time soon?

Is this likely to be ported to v1.21 any time soon? Thats more a hack rather than a patch. Henri said he doesn't want to include this in it's current form and it needs to be rewritten. It's a pretty useless feature anyway as you can simply copy and paste.
