1_19_05 crashes in RLV mode after nearly successful log in

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 on a Toshiba laptop and used to being the collaterally damaged spectator of the constant fight between my graphic card and any of the latest viewer releases.

Disabling the GL Extensions (only tried all at once) overcomes that problem with the CoolViewer, but as I am using the 1.20-07 with Marine's 1.13.1 patch smoothly over that cliff I have a bit of hope that somebody might tip me off in direction of a more satisfying solution. Cool Sl stucks when changing groups tag
01-26-2009 02:55
I change my group tag over 20 times a day, and I never experienced this problem... Please make sure your viewer is properly installed (in particular, the xml files of the official viewer must be overwriten with the ones distributed in the Cool SL Viewer package). Also, an extract of the log (SecondLife.log) when such a problem happens would help... Now i'm running the 22.6 Cool, and it still stucks when changing groups tag, same problem as before. I just extract cool package into the official (or Rc) release folder. Where can i find the secondlife.log? Bye! |

Please, note that Intel graphic cards are *not* supported by LL and will not be supported by me either (IMO they are crap: buy Nvidia. ATI also has problems, or at least the Mobility 9700 did (hardware bug leading to crashes of the viewers, see the LL_ATI_MOUSE_CURSOR_BUG define in the secondlife script), since ATI provided *zero* support for this problem, I don't recommend ATI any more, even if their newer cards might work fine in this respect). If v1.20 works for you, then try and stick with it. Else, you may use the viewer with GL disabled, or you may try to disable specific features in GL, using the "export LL_GL_BLACKLIST=abcdefghijklmno" line in the secondlife script (remove one letter after the other till you get the crashes and then you'll have spotted the faulty function in your driver and may report it to LL). Regards. |

both Cool and RC viewers on the same computer
01-27-2009 05:46
Is it possible to have both the Cool viewer (windows) and SL's RC viewer on your computer? I was successfully using Cool, downloaded and used SL's RC viewer. When I shut RC down to get back on with Cool I couldn't get Cool to boot up.
Reason for loading SL's RC: The coding of the HUD of Sculpt Studio's latest release does not seem to be supported by the Cool viewer. Thanks folks and great job on the Cool viewer, loving it. |

Is it possible to have both the Cool viewer (windows) and SL's RC viewer on your computer? Make sure you use the same versions, that is in the moment the 1.22.6 SL RC with the 1.22.6 CV RC4 from my blog, not an older one. Your HUD should work in either one, SL or CV. _____________________

It depends on which OS you are running the viewer under... It's in your home directory in .secondlife/logs/ for Linux. It's somewhere in "Documents and settings" under Windoze (make a search for SecondLife.log), and I don't know where for MacOS X... probably in the same place as for Linux. 2009-01-27T17:42:02Z INFO: initConfiguration: Loading settings file list/home/xxxx/SECONDLIFE/SecondLife-i686-1.22.6.108361COOLRC/app_settings/settings_files.xml 2009-01-27T17:42:02Z INFO: loadSettingsFromDirectory: Loaded settings file /home/xxxx/SECONDLIFE/SecondLife-i686-1.22.6.108361COOLRC/app_settings/settings_crash_behavior.xml 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: loadSettingsFromDirectory: Loaded settings file /home/xxxx/SECONDLIFE/SecondLife-i686-1.22.6.108361COOLRC/app_settings/settings.xml 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: loadSettingsFromDirectory: Loaded settings file /home/xxxx/SECONDLIFE/SecondLife-i686-1.22.6.108361COOLRC/app_settings/settings_per_account.xml 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: initParseCommandLine: Language it 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: initParseCommandLine: Location IT 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: initParseCommandLine: Variant UTF-8 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: initConfiguration: Using command line specified settings filename: /home/xxxx/.secondlife/user_settings/settings_coolslviewer_rc.xml 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: loadSettingsFromDirectory: Loaded settings file /home/xxxx/.secondlife/user_settings/settings_crash_behavior.xml 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: loadSettingsFromDirectory: Loaded settings file /home/xxxx/.secondlife/user_settings/settings_coolslviewer_rc.xml 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z WARNING: loadFromFile: Cannot find file /home/xxxx/.secondlife/user_settings/settings_per_account.xml to load. 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z WARNING: loadSettingsFromDirectory: Cannot load /home/xxxx/.secondlife/user_settings/settings_per_account.xml - No settings found. 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: getFontListSans: Getting system font list from FontConfig... 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: getFontListSans: Language it 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: getFontListSans: Location IT 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: getFontListSans: Variant UTF-8 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: getFontListSans: Preferring fonts of language: it 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: getFontListSans: Using 50 system font(s). 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: writeSystemInfo: Second Life version 1.22.6 2009-01-27T17:42:03Z INFO: writeSystemInfo: Local time: 2009-01-27T18:42:03 CET |

Thanks Henri...

... I've been afraid you would say that.
And thanks Boy, certainly worth a look. Intel cards are known to cause problems although some just work. Here are 2 links with further info, perhaps that helps to get it working: http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2006/10/03/second-life-intel-engagement/ http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2007/11/29/there-is-a-hack-for-second-life-and-the-intel-965-chipset/ Cerowain |

Because you always need to have the normal SL Viewer and replace just some of its files to make it a CoolSL Viewer. If you think about Henri could make a package out of the whole thing, the normal SL Viewer plus his enhancements, so I fear there might be legal aspects which prevent this. SL uses some licensed software parts like JPEG2000, libkdu and the Vivox Voice parts which are not allowed to be distributed that way without having a license for it. One could release the viewer only with its open source features, leaving out these three parts, but then the viewer would miss major features like voice and would have significant performance drops in texture decoding. I'm not 100% sure about this info, so if I'm wrong here, I'd be happy if someone could correct me. |

Hi, I'm reasonably new to Linux, and having an unbelievable amount of trouble getting this viewer installed.
I'm using the newest verson of Ubuntu that was just released, and the newest main viewer for SL. I downloaded the stable Windlight rendering edition of the Cool Viewer for Linux. I have both my regular SL folder and the Cool Viewer box on my desktop. I've tried putting them in the home folder, and it didn't clear up my issue. Let me make it clear I am by no means proficient with the Terminal. In fact, I'm borderline clueless. But I followed the directions to a tee, and I'm not getting anything but endless "error" and "no such file exists" messages. I never got past trying to find my original SL folder. I'm not a techie, by any means. I just want it to work. Isn't there some relatively easy way to install this? Help. EDIT: Never mind, finally got it... ![]() |

Hi, I'm reasonably new to Linux, and having an unbelievable amount of trouble getting this viewer installed. <snip> 1.- Download the official viewer corresponding to the version of the Cool SL Viewer you want to install (right click on the "download it from LL" link in the corresponding paragraph of the Cool SL Viewer website and choose "save link as", or "save target as" ![]() 2.- Download the version of the Cool SL Viewer (right click on the corresponding link and save the tarball into your home directory. 3.- Open a terminal (xterm, gnome-terminal, kde terminal of even a Linux console). 4.- Type the following (here for the v1.19.0.5 release 45 viewer. Replace with the filenames you actually downloaded if it's not this viewer version or release, and be careful with the name of the directory after the "cd" command: the directory might be named differently, depending on how LL named their official viewer directory. Use "ls" after the first "tar" to see what name is used for the directory and use the TAB key to auto-complete file and directory names as it avoids mistyping them): cd /usr/local tar xjf ~/SecondLife_i686_1_19_0_5.tar.bz2 cd SecondLife_i686_1_19_0_5 tar xjf ~/SecondLife_i686_1_19_0_5_CoolRelease_44-diff_files.tar.bz2 Done ! |

...Now it won't let me teleport anywhere. My landmarks don't work, bringing up the location info doesn't work, and teleporting via the "search" function doesn't work.
I also have no "wear" option for attachments... so I just have to guess what goes where and hope I'm right. What's going on? |

This is because you enabled RestrainedLife and are wearing a RestrainedLife enabled attachment which got locked and is requesting to prevent you from teleporting. Please, read the "RestrainedLifeReadme.txt" file in the directory of the viewer. If you do not want the RestrainedLife feature any more, simply open the preferences menu, go to the "Cool features" tab, uncheck the RestrainedLife check box and relog. <cue in=soundclip from unreal tournament>DOMINATION!</cue> ...on a sidenote, when my wife and me fool around with RLV, "unlock" is a MUST before logging out. |
