Well, the missing libraries bug was fixed by someone emailing me the missing files, so that's taken care of.

However, the new clint will only 'run in a window' at 800x600, any other resolution runs full screen.

I'd rather run in a 1024x768 or 1152x864 window, so I can keep other programs running in other virtual desktops, which earlier versions could do.

can this be restored in a later update?

I hope those didn't have a virus or trojan in them!

Wierd, I upgraded to the latest alpha from the site, and when it runs in windowed mode, the window is resizable. At the login screen I just resized it to 1280x1024 and logged in. The setting was written to setting.xml and now thats the default size.

These are the lines that were added to my SecondLife/user_settings/settings.xml
CODE

<!--SL viewer window height-->
<WindowHeight value="1057"/>
<!--SL viewer window maximized on login-->
<WindowMaximized value="FALSE"/>
<!--SL viewer window width-->
<WindowWidth value="1312"/>

Where to File Bug Reports?
09-03-2006 15:02
The in-client bug reporting appeared to work for me in the 51916 preview. Should we still post things here, or just using that mechanism now?

In my opinion, both - bug reporting via the reporting tool goes to a big pile in the general bug fix area of SL development, and since linux specific stuff is fairly fringe for LL as a whole, the priority may be low on this.

Reporting the bugs here means Tofu, Don, Karen and the Wild Eyed Linux Gurus :D in SL can see them directly, and sometimes resolve the issue in the forum - or with an online session with SL itself.

I'd still like to set up a nice managed place we can actually catalogue the bugs in a useful manner. Or as someone suggested, create a thread for each release, so that we can see what people are still experiencing after each release.

Now THAT is a GREAT Idea! At least until the SL Linux Client is out of Beta :D

If no-one else does it, I will start a new thread for the new client we will get on Wednesday.

Though I must admit, I am in shock that we are getting SO much action on the SL Linux Client :eek: so I am not making much sense at the moment - I have Dizzy Spells In World when using the Linux Client cos it is just too much! :D

LIBDB hardcode
09-11-2006 10:41
I would suggest that you change the hardcoded requirement of libdb-42 to instead point to simply libdb-4 to avoid the problem I ran into where my libdb was newer, however I had to symlink to an older version when LSB wants you to use the "generic" version to avoid the compatibility issues I ran into.

Shutdown...NOT
09-11-2006 12:26
in SLED10, i try to shutdown using file/quit and I get the secondlife-bin process taking up the bulk of my cpu and never quitting. I have to force it down. Any ideas on how to fix that to force a clean shutdown of secondlife?

SHOCKED? EVERYONE is wanting an alternative to Windows...how can you be shocked!!! Who wants the threat of a trojan, virus or unknown issues (I think SL experienced it recently). The word is out.

Now, quit concentrating on that Windows crap and start concentrating on improving the Linux client!!!! PLEASE.

:D The Shock was meant positively. We had been on the old linux alpha client SO LONG that the incredible changes in the new alpha client were mind boggling :p

And don't knock Windows TOO hard - a LOT of people make GREAT money keeping it running! If it was as stable and secure as linux, they would have to earn an honest living :eek: instead of covering up for Microsoft...

Cannot open upload Dialogs: Failed to set locale en_US.iso8859-1
09-12-2006 03:25
Hope you can help me guys, I think I' being a bit dense!

I cannot open any dialogs to upload files. The SL client spits out:

2006-09-12T10:20:41Z WARNING: Failed to set locale en_US.iso8859-1

about 10,000 times, ignoring my request for a file selection dialog.

On installation I selected British English for the Locale/keyboard settings.

I'm running an up-to-date Ubuntu 6.06 LTS system, with the official NVIDIA proprietary drivers on an AMD XP3000+, 1GB memory and an MNVIDIA 6600 GT.

Thanks for your help in advance.

FIle uploads do not work yet under Linux. Please check this forum for more information on the current limitations of the Linux client.

These aren't supposed to work yet, though we have them working internally -- they won't be in tomorrow's release but probably not long after that.

So when these are enabled does that mean the Avatar rendering modes magically get enabled?

I noticed in the log that my Geforce FX 5700 is a Class 1 GPU. The vertex shader extension is disabled. I'm wondering if that's related to the fact that a CPUSlow feature mask is enabled even though my CPU is an Athlon XP 2500+ with a core frequency of 1800MHz. I thought that feature mask was for CPUs less than 1GHz?

Thanks,

It's not related to the erroneous CPUSlow; CPUSlow is pretty harmless and only dictates some first-run defaults, it doesn't actually irreversibly disable anything to my knowledge.

OpenSSL - any problems? are you sure?
09-19-2006 08:07
From: Mack Echegaray
OpenSSL has poor/non-existant binary compatibility and cannot be dynamically linked.

could you break down a bit on this? to my best knowledge, they (openssl.org as project) are running on more platforms then e.g. Debian...

and in my department's product, it IS linked dynamically

This should be harmless here, and the warning will be silenced once I've verified that to be the case.

You need hardware accelleration for running Second Life. This currently means ether a current NVidia or ATI Radeon card.
