Guess what Anshe.. little note for you.. *YOUR A RESIDENT--just like the rest of us.

No matter what you do in game.. your still a resident.. ohhhh wiat did you buy, (PHYSICAL server) from Linden lab that you go and maintain and keep going on the grid or off the grid?.. do you have your own login area?(AKA an Icon that connects to ANSHESL)? did you create anything other then buy and sell land? Hmm think not.. no matter what.. IT'S STILL A GAME... have you looked to see if anyone is offering a thrid life yet? might want to investigate that instead of BLAH BLAH BLAH about something that isn't going to happen and Ohhh yeah, what about this RL business, are you putting SL anywhere in the title? are you paying ROYALTIES to SL for use of their NAME in RL?

No matter what.... Get over it and end of discussion... "IT's A GAME!!!!!"

Oh please. You are buying a service, not a server. And ownership is not always transferrable - software licenses are more and more often sold as non-transferrable rights. The music I buy from the iTunes Music Store can't be sold to another owner. If you thought you were buying something with unlimited rights, you were dead wrong. Did you bother to read the agreement before plunking down that amount of money?

Business is risky. If you take advantage of a system and mess it up for everyone else, don't be surprised when things get fixed so the system works again.

You do have the right to resell the island, however you have to do it as a single piece. If there is something more I am missing, please just let me know.

The difference between you and Philip Anshe, is that he owns the servers and creates the game.. and can pull the plug on all of it any time he wishes. You own.. well.. technically, nothing. You spent alot of money buying nothing. Your pixelated cartoon character and pixelated "sims" are at the mercy of Philip and the electric gods. But Im sure you know that already.

buy from linden... can build myself a beautiful forest with a pretty bubbly stream .. or a huge penis and live in its testicles.

BUT.. over and above all.. its ALL lindens. Doesnt matter how much you paid, its his. Plain and simple

Keep the mind open While I will agree with what you say I will also add:

buy from Anshe .. live in a FPS Sims, no rotating nakid sex toy filled signs
by from linden ... live with low FPS, hight active script usage, neighbors making your yard a hole around you

buy from anshe .. Have a local government ran by the community to make sure it stays a nice community
buy from lindens .. no government, no way to keep community going, no help from lindens when neighbor makes a 10m hole around your house.

Both yours and my statements are true, the point is a closed mind will never expand and see all possibilities and thus suffer.

But Linden Lab does not "own" the infrastructure of the grid - it's co-located at Internap (I'm not even sure if they have their own servers, but most likely they lease them - it makes much more sense, finantially speaking).

That doesn't stop Linden Lab from "selling land", right? And yes, beyond ToS, you'll have to abide to Internap's co-location ToS - although you haven't signed it. Basically, LL provides as service over someone else's facilities.

Nobody really cares about that, do they? I certainly don't. Every day a new "Web hosting service" pops up somewhere in the Internet - and you "buy Web space" from them. You don't really care much if that company/individual has his/her own server connected to the net or if he/she just gets the Web space from some other ISP and "resells" it to you.

This is standard business practice in the Internet.

It doesn't apply to LL's Second Life because LL said so -- but not because of anything else! After all, reselling hosting space is one of the major businesses in the Internet. And we all live happily with that every day.

As to the comment "IT'S STILL A GAME" -- ah well, feel free to think like that, after all, I suppose you live in a free country. I also think that the whole World-Wide Web is a pretty cute game, but I wouldn't dare to say that publicly. Again, I also prefer to quote Philip on my signature

regardless you can't build a new country unless you can buy Real Land and have it not be part of another country and then create your own government...your own society (perrty scarry ---in breed) and then after all is said and done sure =)

You can build a new Virual Country.. anyone can.. but does that mean that SL is going to join forces with the SIMS? and THERE and SWG..and so fourth and create a new "Virtual universe" ? I think not.. Psst Reality Check ... "IT's STILL A GAME"

And back to Anshe, (ohh yes dear not done yet...) you own your things?.. when you die? do you still own them, "no".. do we own anything? Hmm, nope.. whether we "BUY it" or "Rent it".. it's just a depiction of how long it will be in our possesion. and virtual .. well it's virtual.. Thats it.. thats all =)

Whether I Buy land in a game or do whatever with it.. It's not mine..IT's VIRTUAL all pixels formed from little 0's and 1's that have been computer generated for my amusement. If someone else wishes to give me "Game money or Real MOney" for my pieces... or vise-a-versa...thats the choice of the individual, not yours or mine... and either way.. we play the game by the rules of the designers, sure we find loop holes here and there in games and Real life.. but nothing in this "WORLD" is perfect... unless your not having problems logging in? and once again... IT's STILL A GAME.... if it looks like a box.. feels like a box... and has six sides like a box... does it make it a circle?

hmm.. yup.. pretty much sums it up

This should be a lesson for eveyrone. Don't depend on the Lindens for support for RL. Becuase the rules in the "GAME" can change. I knew some people that depended on the income from ratings and events and the rules changed. At any given time or day, the Lindens have the right to change the rules of the "Game". We only have the choice to quit playing or live with them. If we don't like the rules dont play. If the game is still fun, then log in.

Understanding that the rules can change is a risk everyone takes when playing SL. You may by land, but you really don't own it. It really is understood, that you are paying a fee to enhance your game play and not really owning a virtual plot. If you don't understand this then you are caught up into too much, and you might need to get a third life.

Next month the lindens could decide that land fees are too low, and they want to double them. What would you do then? What if they decided all land is free, and you would no longer buy land? What would you do then?

Learn from this and protect your self.

SL is not different from RL: change is the only constant thing in the Universe.

You either learn to adapt to change, and welcome the change, or suffer to be left out.

Perhaps the only real difference between SL and RL is that you can log off SL if you don't like the changes
