From: Panzer Bixby Nothing wrong with asking for time. The thing is... they don't care. I will not sign it because it won't change LL's decision and because the economy needed a fix.
Ahh to whom it may concern no more trivia hosting from me. I disagree. I think this is a case where they thought they were implementing a straightforward and simple solution, but they did not think it through from the player perspective. Linden Lab has a history of listening to player suggestions and complaints and guiding SL accordingly. However, Linden Lab also has a history of hasty patches. Yes, the economy needs fixes. But when you're doing something that effects, on a broad basis, a piece of SL so absolutely fundamental to play that affects all players, we need to have open discussions between players and developers and certainly 2 days is far too little time.

LL has issued its edict and you LL lackys need to get in line.. Right Hiro? Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Exacly my point. Which in my book translates into a simple fact: LL stopped caring since the 8 Million check. The rating change also points in that direction. Tons of player suggestions were made in these forums. These are the times i like to remind everyone that you can go back to a basic account and play SL for free. Lots of us do. Renting land is cheap and nice.

Think about the types of businesses I try and why I try them. They are not Linden dependent.

SIGNED *sigh* I am so disappointed by this. It brings back visions of when ThereInc kept pulling these stunts until many of us left. Where did we go? HERE. And now... it just feels like "Oh joy, here we go again...." I'm not going to get into economic debates. I'm just going to state that from someone who has been online in virtual communities since 1986... this move NEVER turns out good. I have heard it over and over how good this is.. how this will balance the economy.. how it is a fix.. but it NEVER ever ever NEVER works. Visual.. You have a hole in the wall. Instead of learning how to correctly repair it and doing so, you run to WalMart and get a jug of some kind of goopy, sticky stuff that claims it will dry up all perty and finished. You excitedly jump in and slap the goop on the wall.. in the hole.. over the hole.. around the hole.. then go grab a pizza and soda to wait for it to dry. Nope.. still sticky. You go to bed thinking it will be dry in the morning. You have dreams of the wonderful job you did.. how quick it was.. how professional and "put together" it is going to be.. so proud of yourself. You wake up. You race to your creation as if it was Christmas morning. Stop.. THE HORROR.. The goop is dry, but it is the wrong color and bumpy and starting to flake and leave Godzilla sized dandruff goodies all over the carpet. Perhaps this wasn't the right way to go.. but that's ok.. you can still work with it and fix it all up. It will just take more time, more work and a bit more frustration. You race out to get sandpaper and paint and oh yes, a nice dropcloth for the floor. You race back in from your 2nd trip to WalMart with your new stash of goodies and prepare to get to work. Sand. Sand. Sand. Paint. Clean up the mess. Toss out the dropcloth. Put tubs of paint, goop and sandpaper in garage. Wait. You again run back to view your handy dandy fix. And what do you find? A big ole lump of dried up goop sitting on the carpet, wet paint side down (of course) and an even larger hole in the wall. Great quick fix. Now... SERIOUSLY.... *grin* The 25L rating is just BAD. I would rather see Positive for 10L and Negative for 100L. Face it, the folks who work the ratings system always will.. or will work whatever other system replaces ratings at some point. All this 25L is doing is taking some of the fun out of it for a large group of people and hurting the newbies. I know people complain about the rates.. but ya know.. I do NOT work the game. But, I have found myself being a lot more outgoing because of them! I take notice of people and end up making friends because of them. Isn't THAT what SL is about in a sense? Heck, to be honest, there have been weeks when I noticed that my stipend was going to be at the lowest level and I would realize I had been a recluse. I would drag myself out to some events.. and end up having FUN.. I don't simply live for the ratings, but they are an encouragement. As far as the cuts in hosting and support. This could be good and it could be bad. I am also sick and tired of the 1001 hottest thong contests. But, I would hate to see the events that really are EVENTS where the hosts work hard be lost because of this. Ya know, ThereInc did away with hosting and event pay. Sure, it made some of the ones that worked the system stop. But, it also made the REAL hosts stop. There was a day when I could go in there and find 20 pages of events for the night and always find something going on. Now I go in and find perhaps 3-4 pages.. and maybe 1 real event in the bunch.. People who USE the system will. The REAL hosts and events will be the ones HURT. What to do? Create a better set of hosting guidelines as to what is and isn't supported. "Educational" doesn't cut it. Face it, I can watch PBS for education. I come here for entertainment. I gotta be honest, these changes SCARE me. I've seen it all before and it always ends up horrible. I really don't want to go through this nightmare again. I currently have 2 SL accounts and was preparing to get the 3rd. (Why? Not to hide and cause trouble.. honest. LOL) But now, I find myself not even sure if I want to sign in at all... much less become more involved in a community. I worked as several years in a large virtual community. I was preparing to bring my experience from it to create a set of new events/etc. Now.. why bother? They wouldn't be "educational".. wouldn't be best dressed thong hoohoos either tho. Quite bluntly, I'm not gonna work my BEEP off for diddly. What comes to mind.. Is this a ploy to get more people to sign up for Premium just to get the 500 base stipend instead of the 50? *sigh* Ok... I'm hushing.. already upset myself here. LOL Again.. SIGNED SIGNED SIGNED SIIIIIGGGGGGGNNNNNNNNNNNNNNED. Humph

Inflation is MUCH better than total economical depression. LL Please consider you are threatening to kill many small but productive business of many talented individuals in second life. People will buy much less, and of course little and less known business will be wiped out of existence, while only people that already have a big name will be able tto resist the depression.

And depression is a game killer itself, now SUDDENLY replacing a game killer with another game killer is not that good of an idea, isnt it? So it may be a good idea to abort this frankly SILLY and simplicistic changes and to begin workinhg on something that won't kill the game.

From: Alby Yellowknife Inflation is a Game Killer. Go research Virtual Inflation, Mudflation, or ask anybody from There. As someome from There, I have to say inflation was not the "game killer" for me. It was when There stopped the support for REAL events.. I became bored with no events of interest being offered any longer.

From: Alby Yellowknife Inflation is a Game Killer. Go research Virtual Inflation, Mudflation, or ask anybody from There. Actually, boredom, bad service, bugs and poor mechanics are the game killers, as anyone that has played them to any extent knows. Removing the potential for many fun, social events = boredom Rich getting richer, Poor getting poorer = dissatisfaction Bug and no adding of the most requested features = bugs and poor mechanics Unanswered bug reports and inquiries = bad service So...I would think they would work on fixing what is REALLY wrong before breaking what isn't.

From: Adam Zaius Despite the fact Alby wrote this in the least effective, and most patronising manner possible, he does have a point. The market will eventually adjust to any changes.
-Adam Agreed. Inflation IS on the rise in SL. The only end result of all of this will be a drop in prices. Eventually.

From a newbie ...
01-11-2005 08:29
I'm not going to pretend that I understand everything going on here, and all of the ramifications. What I *do* understand is why I became addicted to this place so very quickly ... It was FUN. Plain and simple. Start with ratings ... when you're dropped into the Welcome Center the very first time and see that litle blue box "Whoist Whatchamacallit has rated you positively ... hi, welcome!" then you KNOW there are real people out there and they're actually noticing YOU. No small thing in a world of this size and complexity. Now the events ... yes, I've been to a few classes and yes, I both learned from them and enjoyed them. But I've made all of my true friends at events ... events where I can find like-minded people and be my SL self and just have a blast. The sheer variety and number of events delighted me. And now that seems to be going to be taken away, sigh. Not only do I pity LL for the mistakes I truly believe they're making, I pity the people logging in for the first time next week who will never see "what was", because to me, it was pretty damn good. As long as my friends are here, I'll be here, plain and simple. They're more valuable to me than anything. I probably won't go to any more educational events just on sheer principle (though I reserve the right to change my mind on that further down the road - I have friends who will now teach me what I want to learn. So in closing, all that's left to say is ... LL, you get a big hearty PPpppPPP from me. -Claire

Being new to SL this is a real kick in the head. Stipend from ratings is how I stay afloat while I learn how to make things, design things, walk, fly, lol etc. I don't agree with any of it and I probably won't stay if this is indeed implemented. One thing at a time, not all at once like the Lindens are saying. It's not wise and it will create an extreme depression in SL. I can't see any good coming from this at all.

And that rate was completely absurd...being rated for just being is not a good reason to rate From: someone Now the events ... yes, I've been to a few classes and yes, I both learned from them and enjoyed them. And now that seems to be going to be taken away, sigh.
