Linden Lab,

Please immediately halt the impending economic changes.

Please discuss these changes with the community at large about the ENORMOUS impact they can have on gameplay and the SL economy.

We support you, and want to see Second Life succeed, but the changes planned for Wednesday's patch can have dire consequences. Not long ago you PROMISED to not implement patches without significant test time.

Please live up to your promise. Let's talk.

Signed,

Seconded. Please don't kill the gaming scene in SL. Please don't attack the basic account holders.

What "dire consequences"? And what does a change in the stipend have to do with fixing bugs?

i agree, there's got to be a better solution. Maybe limit the amount of ratings you are allowed to do in a given week? If i really wanted to rate someone and was past my limit, could rate them later. This would deter from rate farms, and massive neg rateing wars.

If i could only rate one person a day, they would have to be specail and deserve that rate! lol

just one humble suggestion.

When you change ratings to 1 -> 25L, half stipends and eliminate the bonus for non-educational events, the impact on the economy can be huge. We don't KNOW what the consequences will be and 2 days simply is not long enough for the community to discuss with Linden Lab how this will affect SL's economy.

Bunch of Uneducated Fools...

Is anybody here able to explain the word "Inflation" (aka: Mudflation for SL)?

The Psychic Fool Network is what this place is.. Buncha hippies rallying around a foolish cause, when if they would spend 2 seconds on the logical reasons, they might grasp the reason for the change.

Despite the fact Alby wrote this in the least effective, and most patronising manner possible, he does have a point. The market will eventually adjust to any changes.

We don't KNOW what the consequences will be .

Precisely. How about we give it a month and see how things shake out? SL is supposed to be a creative community, how about we try to creatively adapt to change? Give it a shot.
Maybe it will suck and maybe it won't. Nobody will ever know if we don't try.

Lets test it out and THEN scream bloody murder if it turns to crap ;-)

Alby, get real. We have a HUGE economic change happening in 2 days and the community seems to have no say? If I were Peter Parker, I'd be crying out that spider senses were going crazy, dude.

The Lindens have promised to give us amble time to test releases. 2 days to test and discuss what could be an enormous change to the economy is not prudent.

I've already explained that the proposed changes will inflate the value of L$, causing rich people to dump L$ on the GOM, and thus deflate the prices, and we've made no progress.

And what if that market adjustment includes noobs not being able to afford things, deciding SL is too expensive, and leaving?

Then what?

I think my concerns have pretty much been spoken, I'm in agreement with Hiro and others opposed to making ratings so expensive. I believe it might be prudent to make it more expensive than 1 L$ = 1 rating, but 25 L$ is nuts.

I probably have a close friend who'll benefit, she's enjoyed playing the ratings/leaderboard game for awhile and has a bunch of stuffy b$&*! friends with tons of money to throw away on kissing eachother's backsides and buying overpriced strings of code, but I think the vast majority of reasonable and common players are just going to ignore the ratings system if this change goes into effect.

It'll certainly mean that people can brag about each rating point mor than they did before, but enhancing the popularity contest aspect is all this does. This is going to finish what the community has started, and make it completely impossible to depend on ratings to tell us who's helpful and talented and who's jerky and annoying.

Hehehehe... Patronising is fun. It gets the point across crystal clear without beating around the bush.

I will be buying no items in SL from the moment this comes into effect.

LL - although as a newbie I have been to educational events, the numbers who attend are minimal. In case you haven't noticed, people play SL to have fun, not be educated. So as someone said, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I fail to understand the logic behind these actions.

I agree.

But if I have invested my retirement money in one area, and then I believe this area will tank, I don't go invest my money in slot machines.

Alby, for the last + 2nd time, no one's denying that slow inflation is a problem. However, and I'm going to write it very big so you won't miss it, this change to the economy has the potential to have a HUGE impact and it is being given a paltry 2 days to examine.

Good.. It should begin in 24 hours or less in my book.. Your crying about doom and gloom and needing time for the masses to spout their two cents.. LL has the secret inside numbers that say your wrong and that 48hours is enough to get the word out because they need to act fast....

For somebody who champions LL all the time, I'm suprised your not rubber stamping their actions.

Charging L25 for a rate? Hmm. The rating system sucks and I don't really see how this will improve it. I still think negative ratings should be done away with altogether and maybe positive too.

The rest of the announcements I don't have a strong feeling about except (major barf) top picks being replaced by whoever pays the most on Ebay for their pick? It should be something like those who are chosen as favorite picks by other players, not who has paid enough cash to be listed.
