From: Satchmo Prototype So that people don't confuse the word troll with vicious hate crimes, allow me to throw out the Wikipedia definition of troll. After reading that you will see how cut and dry it is. Some people even willingly admit to doing some of the things mentioned in the wiki. Yep, and some people have even admitted to "gaming the forums". So I am very confused at their indignance toward that term, not to mention, the forum guidelines say that the term will not be removed, hence it is not viewed as a personal attack.

From: Cocoanut Koala Y'all . . . Do you, or do you not, like the idea of tying a person's posts to the game, as, if you are banned from the forums you will be banned from the game? That is the important question here. coco P.S. I vote no. I don't care what kind of names anybody calls me, I want them to be able to do so without being banned from the game as an over-arching punishment. Ok. *FIRST* I have to say I am so glad someone else has the guts to use the word "Y'all" on the forums besides myself! As to your question. Yes, I like the idea of people being banned from in world also being banned on the forums, and vice versa. My reason is because I do not seperate the two. The forums are a part of SL. A part of the world that is being created. I never have and never will seperate the two, so of course my conclusion is that I agree with this new policy. PS: Even if you keep calling it a game, it never will be so. When was the last time a "game" tied up your emotions, ideas, and thoughts as much as and in such a way as SL does?

A troll is someone who attacks people when they walk over bridges.
The analogy has been painfully abused because the 'groupthink' would rather call us trolls then what we really are - contrarian thinkers.
I hate the term troll and it would be like me saying someone across as a whiny little suckup because he's nice to everyone all the time.

After reading that you will see how cut and dry it is. Some people even willingly admit to doing some of the things mentioned in the wiki. oh dear I sure hope that the definition used will make it clear that the trolling that is disallowed is the sort that has no constructive purpose. The Wiki definition can be taken to include those who are actually being gadflies and really are challenging the status quo - which are healthy exercises. Mind, there is no need in challenging the status quo to single out individuals or groups as "the problem" or attack them in any other manner. This has already and previous to this change in policy been clearly stated as disallowed anyway.

From: blaze Spinnaker "you seem to have an agenda", "the combination of agenda and flame comes across as a troll" "you seem to jump over the line"
It's all you you you you.
But, hey. I did ask for opinions about me. If he doesn't do this when I don't ask for opinions about me, it's all good. Interesting, but you truncated it to make it appear that I called you a troll. Unless you are acknowledging yourself as an it, this is what I said: "Additionally, you often seem to have an agenda when starting a topic. The combination of agenda and flame cause it to merely come across as a troll," The it is referring to the topic, Blaze. Again, why are you playing a game, now even truncating quotes to try to make a point? From: Cristiano Midnight Additionally, you often seem to have an agenda when starting a topic. The combination of agenda and flame cause it to merely come across as a troll, instead of a sincere look at a topic.

As a pejorative, the term "troll" may also be a slander of opponents in heated debates, a tactic often used by trolls and non-trolls. Many times a person will post a sincere message that they are emotionally sensitive about and trolls know that the biggest way to upset them is to falsely claim that they are a troll. On other occasions a person may not instantly understand or fit into the social norms of a forum where most people are the same - and so acting just slightly out of social norms, often unintentionally, for legitimate reasons gets the poster falsely called a troll. Sometimes when a person just wants to be funny, they are accused of trolling, when that is not their intent. Quite often, trolls have found traditional trolling tactics so overused and commonplace that they have to disguise their trolling to make it effective; and this disguising is largely done recently by falsely accusing anyone they can of being trolls.
Anyways, Cristiano, the point is lets stop addressing each other. Let's stick to the ideas.
I'm probably going to bail on this conversation, as I think it's not getting anywhere fast.

Ha ha, Pendari, TSO! That was the last time. Where, by the way, I moved to Interhogan precisely to live in the same city as that really cool cartoon-creating person. Who subsequently never showed up in IH. But I stayed there, and loved it! lol As for the original question, I change my vote. Yes, please, do ban people from the game after banning them from the forums. I want to watch what happens. Who will be next? Hmmm . . . I don't think it will be me. BLAZE! Blaze is gonna go down in flames for this very cause, just to show you how that is going to work out. coco P.S. I get REALLY REALLY pissed when people call me a troll. Not to mention those other things they have called me. Somehow, to me, that is much worse than someone likening my name to "Coco, a nut, something light and not to serious, kinda humorous," and all those things I INTENDED WHEN I CHOSE MY NAME. But I didn't notice anybody getting all bent out of shape when people tore into me, with that and other terms. Did I now. Amazing, how that works.

From: blaze Spinnaker Also, Prok got banned btw for saying that Aimee was coming across with her brand as an XYZ. pfft! Prok got banned for the "straw that broke the proverbial camels back". A person amasses a mountain of complaints and reports, a person pushes and baits non-stop, a person skirts and prances around the rules long enough... It is going to add up. And one day, enough is going to be enough. The simple fact it took *this* long for this perma-banning situation to happen, tells me we are dealing with Lindens who truely *do* want to make sure they are being fair and not overbearing to their customers.

lol lol lol
- this thread cracks me up... but i suppose some people here are trying to push to figure out where the new boundaries are
- i agree with tying forum behavior to in-world behavior. That you can get away with more in a mature sim in-world does not cause a problem in my mind. We are asked to behave differently in PG versus Mature sims already.
- some people need to keep in mind that we're all individuals on here, and in any one thread there's usually just a small minority of the forum population participating. A few people causing you pain does not mean the whole forum is ganging up on you, or the community is out to get you.
- and blaze, i think you are making your point, albeit indirectly. ... me, I say, wait and see... I'll pass judgement on LL's actions, not words

Prok got banned? If he did I think the reason is because his posts were eating up the memory banks at Linden Labs.

They didn't get rid of the problem when they got rid of Prok. Because, see, they didn't do a DANG THING about what was happening to me. Or to other people in these forums. Or about those who gang up on people and call them names. Or mount shunning campaigns. Or dismiss new players as alts, for weeks. They didn't do a dang thing about any of all that. Because, they really didn't care what happens to me. They do care what happens to Aimee and Cubey Terra and those who wanted almost obsessively wanted Prok gone, and you know who you are. They stood by and let people absolutely make my forum life a living hell, and wouldn't lift a finger to help. This alone tells me who is important in this game and who isn't. Which in and of itself corroborates everything Prok ever said. I used to think he was kinda off the deep end with that (and he is off the deep end, I have always thought, on a lot of various things), but you know what? He was oh, so right about some things, more than I ever really knew. They got rid of the "problem," all right. It's just that they left the greater part of the problem behind. coco

Cocoanut,
What is continuing to happen to you? You have always been a side casualty because of Prokofy - without him here, unless you are constantly singing Prokofy's praises, what is being done to you that is not being addressed?

I do still hope that the new fourm rules will change that, because if they don't and the same ppl who think they run the fourms will continue. If I see that happening without ppl calling them on it, then well I won't post. I think today there was an acknowlegement that there is a problem and they are aware of it. Why else change it? To weed you and me and ppl who think as individuals out? Naw that smacks of "nazi" to me and I just don't see that happening. Cat

Who subsequently never showed up in IH. But I stayed there, and loved it! lol Haha!! Yes. I thought TSO was going to be *it* too. It was a game, but it had the potential to be so much more. But not in the way that SL is, not even close. Hense why I came here. And Alphaville was always my main home. I only started up in Interhogan because a friend of mine was rooming with Will Wright and wanted me to move in. haha.. Had it not been for RL issues and a computer meltdown, I would have been in TSO much much longer. Here is a stroll down memory lane (for those not in the TSO beta, this comic will not make much sense.. but I had a blast doing it) http://www.stripcreator.com/comics/Pendari/108070 From: Cocoanut Koala P.S. I am *really* sorry this happened to you Coco. I was on a break from SL when you came (about a 7 month break.. so a long one), for a great variety of reasons. So I was not around when this all went down. I personally like you. I disagree with you on some issues, but I think you are a good asset to the SL world. And I'm glad you are here. I do think though, had I been around during your arrival, I would have sympathized with both sides. A *huge* reason I needed a break for so long was because a certain person was bringing out a side of me that was not yet known to most of the SL world. I found myself getting bitter at people that didn't deserve it, and I also found myself afraid to speak up. Afraid that my friends would see I had an angry side that was not at all like my normal self. When I came back, I made a point of talking to various people and friends. Explaining that I could no longer hold this part of me back, and hoping that they would understand. Well, silly me, everyone said they would never dislike me for speaking up. Even when I may disagree with them. I stand by the fact that the way you start and approach a topic makes all the difference in the world. If you make it so that your posts put people on the defensive, they are going to respond exactly that way. But we are all adults here, and we all have the ability to learn and grow from our mistakes. And I do not treat others differently in world than I do on the forums. I would hope no one else does that to me. Hense why I continue to stand by my position that the SL forums are as much a part of the SL world as Jo Bob's Saloon.

See heres the problem. Why was Coco a side "casualty" why did she have to be any casualy because she agreed with another poster? She didn't. The rest of what I hear you saying is; "dont sing proks praises anymore and you will be ok with us" Everyone has a right to their opinions. The world "casualty" doesn't belong in a discussion this is not WAR, or was it and no one clued in the soldiers before they were ambushed. Unbelieveable I dont even believe I am reading this.

Coco has the right to her opinion and defending Prokofy. I have my right to think it is pathetic and a poor use of her time and energy. Cocoanut is a nice person with a lot to offer the community but her defense of Prokofy has made her someone I don't care to associate with. Everyone has choices in life.

Unbelieveable I dont even believe I am reading this. Catherine, Wow you are talking about everyone having a right to their opinion while telling someone what to say or not to say? Cocoanut was attacked by people (not me - feel free to check with Cocoanut) because of her association with Prokofy, not for any other reason. She was often outspoken about him, in defense of him, which brought some abuse her way as well. That made her a casualty of the war that was going on with Prokofy. It was just that - a war of words in these forums - pages and pages and pages of them. Also, I didn't say "you will be ok with us". Please stop misrepresenting quotes. Her defense of Prokofy is what brought grief upon her - so the logical statement is that continued defense of him can be expected to produce the same result, right or wrong. Cocoanut is a wonderful person and I have hated to see her get caught up in all of this.

Cat, I enjoy your posts so I'd hate to see you got too riled and say something you'd regret. Perhaps it'd be good to throw yourself into a project. After the excellent job you did on the Chicago sim, perhaps you might take on a little fifties Americana and do the McCarthy era for us to remember?

Thank you, Cristiano. However, it is true - the whole while I was being called things, I was told by others in more ways than one, and more than once, exactly that: If I would just stop taking up for him, I would be ok. I will be a casualty in the next war, too, when I see someone getting ridden out of town on a rail for essentially (a) thinking too much and thinking too complexly, (b) thinking that will be understood and taken for what it is, combined with (c) being undiplomatic. Or for whatever reasons people turn en masse against one lone individual. And there will be a next war. The only difference now is, where people had the ability to run someone out of the forums on a rail, now they will be able to run them out of the game, too, while they're at it. coco
